The Antares and UD heli could work in DBCS, though the weapon system of Strania would take a lot of adjusting to DBCS in terms of weapon placement, drops, and DBCS' current linear weapon upgrade system (maybe they'll put in some more effort for their own games). Alternatively Senko no Ronde could be an option, I guess.

I'd like to see a MOSS/Seibu Kaihatsu pack too. The Raiden would work just fine if you replaced red and green orbs wth the weapon/missile containers from Raiden, and aside from that you could have one of the Raiden Fighters ships and Caladrius/Viper Phase.

It's nice, but to me it's not $200 + shipping costs nice.

It's all relative, I'm a modeler and I play shmups so it's worth it to me.

Nice of them to do some Capcom, but seriously no 1940?

Here's hoping they make some Irem, Konami and SNK as well.

Oh, indeed. That's why I made sure to include "to me" in there. I'm not a modeler, and while I respect that quality things cost money, this thing just wouldn't be worth that to me, or anywhere near that cost.

I'd have thought an Irem pack would be nigh impossible, but Degica included R-Type in a poll a while ago. R-Type / X-Multiply / Image Fight DLC would be incredible, and certainly workable in terms of stage design...

Wouldn't "In The Hunt" be oddly appropriate as well, given Darius' nautical theme? I think a submarine for a main ship would be kind of funny/cool.

haha, thought of that one as well. :)
But frankly "In The Hunt" is probably too much of a rarity to be considered for commercial viable DLC. (though I wonder how much money the available DLC has generated for the publishers... seems more like fan service)
I'd probably buy it though...

In The Hunt isn't any more obscure than most of the DLC they've released so far--it's part of the Dotemu Irem compilation on Steam, even.

Dragon Breed, Mr. Heli, Image Fight, X-Multiply... there are plenty of candidates, not to mention R-Type which could easily fill its own pack. (The same is true of Konami & Gradius.)

So let's throw around some ideas:

* Irem: R-Type, Image Fight and In The Hunt
* Konami: Gradius II, Thunder Cross and Xexex
* Toaplan: Truxton II, V-Five and Batsugun
* Psikyo: Sengoku Blade, Dragon Blaze and Strikers 1945 Plus
* SNK: Alpha Mission II, Last Resort and Blazing Star
* Hudson: Super Star Soldier, Air Zonk and Lords of Thunder
* Masaya: Gleylancer, Wings of Wor and Cho Aniki
* Namco: Thunder Ceptor, Baraduke and Dragon Saber
* Treasure: Radiant Silvergun, Ikaruga and Bangai-O

This'd be a long shot, but a pack dedicated to doujin shmups would be interesting to see. There's a lot of good shmuppery out there to confine to just three entries, though. Astebreed, Crimzon Clover, Hellsinker, StellaVanity, Blue Wish, Ether Vapor... Heck, Touhou could probably fill a pack on its own by focusing on the gimmicks of three specific games.

The situation around Progear is complicated. It seems Capcom retains some rights over the game, which is why it's hard to rerelease and which is why Capcom published the soundtracks.

This seems to be the case surrounding Giga Wing and Mars Matrix... except Takumi never ran into any issue making Yokushin to be published by Taito. CAVE, last I checked, can't do anything derivative of Progear without going to Capcom.

I get the feeling G.rev or Taito wanted to pick another actual Capcom game anyway, but fan demand said Progear. There's no 194X because of Varth, which is honestly a similar game (especially with its mega stage count). Totally could have went with Lost Worlds or Ultimate Ecology... or even Chariot...

I just picked the one I think is the most classic/well known, otherwise I'd have picked Gaiden.

As for Xevious, I considered it but it doesn't have much in the way of weaponry. Besides, they didn't picked 1940 as well which is Capcom's flagship shmup.

I'd have picked 1944 myself, but Forgotten Worlds would be fine as well.

Tought of a few more, by the way:

* Technosoft: Thunder Force IV, Hyper Duel and Blast Wind
* Jaleco: Cybattler, EDF: Earth Defense Force and Formation Z
* Data East: Boogie Wings, Super Real Darwin and Vapor Trail
* Compile: Blazing Lazers, MUSHA and Zanac X Zanac
* Hudson: Super Star Soldier, Air Zonk and Lords of Thunder
* Success: Cotton, Guardian Force and Psyvariar
* Sammy: Viewpoint, Change Air Blade and Lethal Skies
* NMK: Hacha Mecha Fighter, Thunder Dragon 2 and Zed Blade
* Apogee: Tyrian, Raptor: Call of the Shadows and Stargunner
* Square-Enix: Einhänder, iS: Internal Section and Thexder NEO

So we've officially announced the new Capcom DLC (CharaAni jumped the gun on us!) You can read a little about it here, as well as the Limited Edition PS4 version.

Can you please make the soundtracks (from both the first limited edition released in Japan, and now this second edition) available as DLC on Steam?
As it currently stands, those who went for a digital version on PC miss out on them... :(

So, now that a fancy retail release is coming out for the PS4 in the US... is there any reason to go with the PS4 version over the PC one? I know the PC version supports two monitors, but I've also heard it has some crash issues and general Japanese PC port ghettoness. Anyone care to weigh in on that stuff?

Reading comments on the Steam forums, I know some people experienced issues with the PC version, most of them (if not all) already fixed in patches, I believe.
But personally, I've been playing the game since the first day (and currently own all the DLCs), and I never experienced any issues at all, despite my PC being around a decade old (except the graphics card): no crashes, no errors, no hint of slowdown.

The port is pretty much flawless. Besides not having extensive graphics options, I don't see what they could have done to make it better.

Had some issues during the first month but everything has been addressed. PC version has ultra-wide resolution support making it the ideal way to play Darius IMO.

Super tempted to grab the PS4 physical version despite not owning a PS4 yet. Problem is that shipping from LRG to Canada is bound to be hella expensive. :/

In recent past they have charged US$15 for shipping a standard PS4/PS Vita game to Canada.
  • I don't know what they charge for the bulkier bundles/special editions (technically speaking all of their releases are "limited editions").
  • IIRC they were looking for a new shipping partner - so if they have selected one pricing may have changed.
Also it's probably best not to think of them as a "retailer" - I'd call them the sales event management and fulfillment division of Mighty Rabbit Studios, Inc. When they are shipping merchandise, they have thousands to ship, so a week could easily go by before your paid order is even shipped - possibly longer if they are in attendance of a gaming convention that happens shortly after your order. So 3 to 4 weeks can go by before you have your merchandise in hand.

On the rarest occasions they open pre-orders, collect them, close pre-orders, manufacture the merchandise and then ship it.

Currently their typical modus operandi is to fund a print run of 2500 - 6000 units (depending on the game's perceived popularity and platform - PS4 games have a larger potential audience than PS Vita, so the PS4 volumes tend to be a little bit higher). After they package them they hold a sales event on a Friday. Half of the lot goes up for sale at 10:00 and the other half at 18:00 (Eastern time zone (UTC-05:00); Mighty Rabbit Studios, Inc. is located in Cary, North Carolina). Some games aren't that popular and aren't sold out for hours. Others like the Oddworld titles on PS Vita are sold out in minutes - if you were 10 minutes "late" you were either already too late or fishing for merchandise in somebody's "abandoned shopping cart".

Typically purchases were limited to two copies though recently they have started to limit it to ONE. I guess too many people were ordering two and selling the second copy for twice the price on ebay to get a "free" game out of it.
