Galshell and Psyche Metal: The Bleeding might be worth a look.

XOP's creator Udderdude is a regular here, incidentally.

Also worth mentioning is the upcoming arcade only Skycurser.

I guess you could call that organic. Not that many bullets, since you mentioned it. Looks almost HR Giger sometimes

Sister series from the same creator, Yakouga Taisen (Luminous Moth) also plays incredibly well and is quite developed. 4 with its mix of Progear "explosion cancelling", graze chain bullet surfing, Garegga medal chaining, and macro intensive bullet patterns is really energetic. I haven't had a chance to play it, but 5's RECCA formula update also seems pretty interesting from the gameplay footage I've seen.

Just be warned that alongside the gross out bio-horror, there's also a much larger percentage of off-putting anime moe weirdness. These are also all hentai games so be sure to turn off cg.

So this is the power of the giger boobs.

While I really want to suggest Hellsinker, as its mechanical bosses do seem somewhat organic (and for good reason!), I'll be legit with this one.

Try Hydorah - It isn't fully organic, but has a rather large amount of bio-bosses and enemies, many of them going for outright cool design, rather than just gross. Definitely has more organic stuff than something like R-type. The game is free and very awesome anyway.

I'm honestly surprised there aren't more. Granted I haven't gone out of my way looking for them so there's probably more than I think there are, but still...

You mentioned R-Type already, but Irem also made X-Multiply which is even more "organic" than R-Type.

Man, just learned about and watched some of Cambria Sword. Looks great!

The weapons have a trippy Thunder Force V look to them, and I like the giant trilobite theme.

It just went up on the English site: http://www.dlsite.com/eng/work/=/produc ... 92078.html

It's also coming to Steam at some point, if you'd rather wait for that version.

Okay, played some more Cambria Sword and I'm pretty much loving it. It's plenty of quirks to learn, but there's plenty to love.
I love the energy behind the game, the absurd over-use of giant effects, the huge monsters, the changing of said monster designs, new forms, new phases, it's all awesome.
The art could use some refinement, but I can get over that.

The weapons are interesting too. I'm not certain how many there are (4 main, 4 secondary?) But what seems to work best is always shooting the secondary but not-shooting primary and charging instead. By not-shooting and charging the prime weapon, you get a super shot based on that weapon. Each one is pretty different. One is a long shooting big lasers, one has bombs that go off slowly across the screen, and one is a missile that is really big and strong but a little tricky to aim (so you could miss and waste it).
There's also some other little tiny collectible things I don't understand, and probably a speed.. and 1UPs and points, and maybe more?

The difficulty--at least for me is pretty good (I'm not great btw). The bullet patterns are interesting, but definitely manageable. I played 3 times to game over, and on the 4th try I finally beat... wait--level 1! I thought I was in level 2 based on how much this one mid-boss blew up.. but turns out he was just a mid-boss. By the time I made it to the boss, well by the time you beat him, it makes sense he's the real boss of level 1.
Anyway, I played through most of level 2, but not beat it yet. That is apparently the end of the demo (beating level 2). That said, I hope it doesn't get a lot harder than this or I'll be having problems.

I play most shmups to see crazy shit and fight cool monsters. Actually that's how why play most games at all (explains why I don't play sports games). I don't play for points that often.
If you like crazy shit, can stomach droning heavy metal (I don't mind it), and can re-calibrate your eyes for insane effects going every which way, give the demo a try.
I'm thinking of getting it before it hits Steam just to support this guy.

Played a little Cambria Sword. The powerups are a little hard to figure out, and I think the normal enemy waves are kind of slow and boring. But I like the style (the main character is fucking adorable) and the bosses are great. Feels like it could use some definite refinement and a change of pace but I also feel like it's somehow a cool game anyways.
