480p Scaler Recommendation
I am simply looking for the fastest way to stream 480p and output at 1080p.
I currently have the Framemeister and would love similar features such as fast image processing and hopefullly bypass my tv's interger scaling so 1080p output is a must.
I can imagine it's been asked but it wouldn't hurt to get a modern update on available solutions.
Which scaler would you recommend for just 480p content. I have a bunch of 2k era consoles that could use a facelift.

Re: 480p Scaler Recommendation
DVDO iScan Micro is the fastest I have ever used. There have been mixed results on the forum, but I have seen some pictures of decent results at 1080p. Your milage may vary.
If and when you are not upscaling a 480p signal, you will need to add a line doubler.
Check this thead:

Once again, your milage may vary. I was not happy with the micro.

The ossc is not a scaler it's a doubler/tripler. I plan on using its lossless powers to feed my scaler an easier to use signal than for my 240p games.AndehX wrote:OSSC?
Well I have heard those do not support the line triple mode for my classics on the OSSC. I could potentially buy one just for my component consoles. Also the I haven't been able to find frame delay on the Micro and it's dinky form factor scares me.orange808 wrote:DVDO iScan Micro is the fastest I have ever used. Is the iscan Micro the pinnacle of GameCube and Xbox games in the modern era?
I don't know, but I would like to

Re: 480p Scaler Recommendation
I guess the pinnacle would be emulation, due to native rendering at higher resolution.
Of course though you may want to play with the original hardware, in wich case I think the PMS Crystalio II is still regarded as the best upscaler for 480p material (see Fudoh's invaluable website http://retrogaming.hazard-city.de/). Unfortunately, it has become quite rare nowadays. Once in a while one still pops up on ebay though (that's how I got mine).
Edit: I might add that if what you're after is faster processing above all else, then yeah DVDO units may be what you're looking for due to their gamemode setting.

Re: 480p Scaler Recommendation
The whole DVDO range does a pretty good job of upscaling 480p, which usually still excels what many modern TVs offer. This includes the older units (like the iScan HD/HD+), but there are limitations (e.g. their internal 4:2:2 processing) and once you start looking for REALLY good 480p upscaling, it starts to get complicated.

At least it's affordable

I don't have a Micro, but I have the iScan Mini and afaik it's the same scaling minus all the settings and options.

*Accepts OSSC linetriple (need to set output to HDMI mode).
*Image is overly sharp (causes ringing) but this can be offset if your display can soften by setting image sharpness into negative range (or equivalent).
*Lag is in the microseconds. Yes, microseconds.
*480i handling is poor

On the "My life in gaming" review. They were not able to accept the line triple mode on the iscan Micro.
And no I did not read the review. I did not know one was done already.
That lag is impressive.
