New Kenta Cho game!

Post by the2bears »

Mu-cade, just saw this... had been there today already and I didn't notice it so this might be brand-spanking new.

Some new visuals, different than anything previous of his.

Damn. Will this man ever stop coming up with crazy delicious game ideas? He should port them all to a console and release a compilation or something. Have to make a note to give this one a go tomorrow when I feel like booting up the Windows machine.

Ok, did anyone actually played this?

It's not a shmup, it's more a arena shooter. It's like, I dunno, Smash TV crossed with Nibbles.

From what I got, you shoot to push enemies out of the arena, while they try to do the same with you. Each enemy sent out of the arena gives you points, and makes your tail bigger.

The bigger your tail, the bigger your multiplier is. 2nd button "cuts" your tail (Everytime I was about to die, I used that and saved my life).

The game seems to be very simple and repetititve.

Why yes... yes I did.

Kenta Cho's games are generally written around 1 or 2 ideas. Seems he wants to explore game mechanics and does just that. Your "simple and repetitive" is for me a fun, quick diversion. Expect in the next month or two a few iterations while he tweaks things. Then he'll move on.

I quite like his games, but they're not for everyone. Different tastes etc.

i dunno, maybe if he gives us independant firing in an update(like how the controls in gunroar went from rotate lock to dual control) it might feel like an arena shooter, at the moment it sorta has it's own vibe
i'm not sure if i care for it, it's not bad but it's not clicking with me yet. feels too loose/random maybe.

I/J/K/L or the second joystick.

But yeah this is an interesting game so far. Kinda reminds me of Geometry Wars, which I first played yesterday.

okay well i feel sheepish.

although the rest of my post still stands. which the edit that because your body is solid and you can't turn on a dime it still doesn't feel like an arena shooter

Respect to Kenta Cho for this one.
The idea is great, so is the programming. And it's fun. Except when one bullet makes you cross the whole arena and fall

Is it a shmup ? I dunno, but I'd love a shmup that gives you the freedom of movement you have in µ-cade!

Don't get me wrong, I kinda enjoyed the game, I just don't see me coming back to it like I did with Gunroar and Torus Trooper :)

I asked if anyone had played it because I wanted to know if anyone found more about the game.

I'm still of the opinion Tumiki Fighters is his only real, finished game.

Gunroar was fun, if only to see how much you can jack up the rank without being hit.

Well if Gunroar can be considered a shmup with it's twin stick firing system than I don't see why this should not be either. OK so the main objective is to push people off as supposed to blow them up and it;s not scrolling but at the end of the day you're still shooting stuff in a very traditonal (if slightly robotron style) maner.

Saying that it seems impossable to manover around the arnea once you're snake gets to big, seriously the amount of times I've managed tot tumble of the arena due to a evasive turn that went wrong... saying that I guess it's the charm of the game and it's also in very early stages to.

Good stuff!

Erm, I dunno if you guys noticed that or not... but you do have a button that cuts your tail off.

I think thats the point of the game - grow as much as you can up until your snake is nearly uncontrollable, cut its tail and start it again.

Much like Gunroar point was "Push the rank as far as you can", here the point is "Get as big as you can".
