What is normal difficulty in this game? In MAME SW1 5&6 OFF/OFF is listed as normal but in the US manual OFF/OFF is easy and ON/OFF is normal. As far as I know this is a world board and no different versions were made for different regions. I tried ON/OFF in MAME and it does seem slightly harder though it may be confirmation bias, try the stage 2 boss with both settings and see what you think.

edit: this could probably be cleared up if anyone can find a japanese operator instruction sheet.

I would go with the manual, MAME doesn't always get the default dipswitch settings correct. That it defaults to OFF/OFF in MAME is telling, as that suggests they simply never set the actual defaults.

I just did a bit more of a thorough check and found that in MAME at least the stated difficulty is correct and the manual is wrong. The easiest way to check for yourself is to play the first stage normally getting all powerups. When you reach the last group of blue mechs that swoop in on you right before the boss, don't shoot them. On normal they will fire a bunch of large orange bullets, on easy they won't. I have a real board coming to me probably on Monday so I can check it on there as well.

Update, I got a PCB and it has a photocopy of the Japanese instructions. The difficulty setting in the US instructions for this game are 100% wrong. What's in MAME is correct.

Rare footage of MAME getting something right the first time. The US release can't be very common.

Usually, dipswitch settings are programmed so that turning off every switch would give you default settings. Exceptions include Tiger-Heli.

Aaaah, that was liberating. I've usually a soft spot for those games with somewhat grotesque hitboxes (Uchuu Senkan Gomora!) but this one never felt natural for some reason. Love the boss music, at least!
