Theft of thunder!

Maybe if it were analog. Doubtful considering a fully digital signal path.Tatsuya79 wrote:Isn't this "active noise" just bad electronics or something?
So there's noise even with the CRT filter off?bobrocks95 wrote:Maybe if it were analog. Doubtful considering a fully digital signal path.Tatsuya79 wrote:Isn't this "active noise" just bad electronics or something?
Correct - regardless of Display setting, subtle noise is applied to the whole screen.GeneraLight wrote:So there's noise even with the CRT filter off?bobrocks95 wrote:Maybe if it were analog. Dumbass Nintendo.RGBSource wrote:Correct - regardless of Display setting, subtle noise is applied to the whole screen.
I couldn't notice it at all until I zoomed in really closely, and when I did finally see it, I feel like it adds a nice texture to the image..GeneraLight wrote:Dumbass Nintendo.RGBSource wrote:Correct - regardless of Display setting, subtle noise is applied to the whole screen.
I suspect it's some sort of protection against class-action law suits about solid color burn-in or something along those lines. Recall they also dimmed down the colors on the virtual console to protect against epilepsy law suits.GeneraLight wrote:There's absolutely no reason to have noise in a lossless digital signal though.
Probably not, but there was no other reason for Nintendo to screw the colors up so badly as to make the games look like one was playing them in dirty fish tank water.austin532 wrote:Is epilepsy still a problem even with HDTV's? I've tried Iron Tank for the NES and the flashing is nothing compared to a CRT.
That's the story I heard.austin532 wrote:Wasn't it supposedly done to emulate the darker image you would get from scanlines?
If that's the case, I think we can all agree it didn't work.bobrocks95 wrote:That's the story I heard.austin532 wrote:Wasn't it supposedly done to emulate the darker image you would get from scanlines?
From what I heard (and this is just what I heard), the burn-in protection is just a timed switch to screensaver mode.Tatsuya79 wrote:I asked in the other thread but no one answered: is this noise related to the "burn-in protection" there is in the options menu?
Anyone tried with it OFF?
I thought of that and tested it out. No, the texture noise has no relation to the burn-in protection setting. It's the same setting Nintendo has included on the Wii and Wii U - dims the output after 5 minutes of inactivity.Tatsuya79 wrote:I asked in the other thread but no one answered: is this noise related to the "burn-in protection" there is in the options menu?
