XRGB-mini Framemeister
Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister
The previous black Apple TVs are also infrared. Only the very newest model is bluetooth.
Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister
I just have to say, I'm still amazed by the XRGB Mini every time I fire up one of my retro consoles. I now have them all switched over to RGB (thanks to gscartsw's 8x1 switch) or component (just the PS2 and Wii), except for the AV Famicom which I just received this past week. I love the enhanced sound of Akumajo Densetsu, but running the Famicom in composite is just painful to look at (especially compared to Castlevania III in glorious RGB). Thankfully, I'll be mailing Yurki my AV Famicom in the next week or two to have it modded. I'm just torn on if I want to have him install a power LED. I really don't like to have console cases modified unless they have to (such as the NES for RGB). It's a weird OCD of mine that caused me to repurchase a model 1 Genesis and Dreamcast after switching to RGB; my old Genesis was s-video modded and the Dreamcast VGA.
Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister
That's why I like to have at least two systems. One to keep original and the other for modding.

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister
I think my frameister's rgb input is busted or is my scart to mini din 8 adapter.
It just output the audio on left side without video. This is the adapter that I use: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Micomsoft-XRGB- ... 666?_ul=BR
I will convert the adapter that came along from JP21 to Euro SCART, is there any guide that shows how to convert?

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister
Since the sync stripper is powered by the DC adapter it may be too weak although that would more likely make you lose sync rather than the entire signal.

I got image and audio, but with some funny colors.

Is this crosstalk or my mini is broken?

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister
Hey guys,
I would like some advice please on hooking up my XRGB Mini to a SCART switch. Basically I own a Bandridge 5-Way Manual Switch and a Hama AV100s. When I use a Male to Male Belkin Scart cable to link the XRGB Mini (via passive pass-through to mini-din) to either switch the audio buzz/hum you get with consoles over scart (minor with SNES/MD but slightly louder with my Neo Geo CMVS) is amplified quite a bit and the audio hum/buzz when the screen is very bright is a lot more noticeable.
I have read that using a Coaxial cable is better for linking the Framemeister to a switch, such as these:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/201678179123? ... EBIDX%3AIT
or
https://www.retrogamingcables.co.uk/aud ... packapunch
What is your advice, should I invest in one of these cabled and will it cure the problem? I really need to use a switch as I'm tired of swapping cables all the time. The picture quality is unaffected, both switch produce a great image.
Many thanks

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister
Quick question... at this point is time, is it really worth getting a female adapter with CSYNC, or newer firmware has taken care of that?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister
You mean sync stripper? No need for that really.
Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister
Yep I meant the syncstripper

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister
Hi guys, I'm sorry if this question is annoying. I have searched everywhere online for the answer to this but still can't seem to figure it out. Just what exactly is going on in the screen_set section? (the junkerhq.net FAQ just skips over this section for some reason).

Just an explanation on how and why stuff is happening in each mode would be really helpful. Thanks.

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister
I'm not sure of the technical side of things, but I know from some measurements I've taken that Standard seems to he the closest to an aspect ratio of 4:3.
This is based on the following assumptions:
- A PAL SMS outputs perfect 4:3, inclusive of the overscan area. The SMS Wikipedia page and other online forums state that the output is 256 x 192. This equates to perfect 4:3 so assumption proven(??)
- The built-in Hang On game and it's coloured Overscan area uses up the full 256 x 192
So I set the FM to 1080p50 and used a tape measure to get the width and height of the displayed image. On a 55-inch display, the measurements were w 89 h 68. This is not perfect 4:3, but is much closer than Smart_x1 and Smart_x2

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister
I have a small problem when playing the original Xbox through the Framemeister. Certain games like Fable (The original version, TLC works fine) don't want to work when the console is set to 480p YES in the console's video settings, the picture becomes scrambled and unplayable. If I set 480p to NO and turn one of the other resolutions to YES then it works fine. Unfortunately this makes everything kinda blurry with the Framemeister. There was another game I have that does the same thing but I forget which it is. This seems odd to me since the box for Fable says it does support 480p. Any idea what could be the cause?
Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister
I want to say Fable was one of the games that glitches out with 480p with the later XBOX models but I could be wrong.

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister
Well that sucks. I have one of the Halo edition consoles so I really don't wanna get rid of it. Guess those games I'll have to play blurry.
Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister
A number of Xbox revs have issues with Sega (Smilebit) games at 480p as well. My original rev that was included in the Sega two game bundle appears to be the best overall revision.

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister
Interesting article, mine seems to have been made in China with a Phillips drive. The other game I have that wouldn't work was Jet Set Radio Future and it looks like both it and Fable can be force booted to run in 480p with a dashboard trick so I'm set there. But it seems anyone with Gun Valkyrie or Panzer Dragoon Orta is screwed.
Btw, can anyone tell me what the A/D level setting does?

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister
I personally use the supplied micomsoft jp21 pin to euro scart female, then a male to male 1 meter cord from retrogamingcables to my shinybow. Not hums or hahs here. It may be the cables going from the switchbox to the consoles also, unless its happening on all of your systems.Larrs888 wrote:Hey guys,

The problem with a lot of this stuff is that you need to start swapping cords out to see which one is the real culprit, if you were local I'd come over and bring all my randoms cables and cords ><
Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister
I can confirm this, Xbox 1.0, 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3 are all compatible with 480p for Sega games (Panzer Dragoon Orta, GunValkyie, Jet Set Radio), however 1.4 and anything later are not.RGB32E wrote:A number of Xbox revs have issues with Sega (Smilebit) games at 480p as well. The problem came from Microsoft releasing an update to make "Fable" 480p compatible on newest console revisions being released at the time which upon looking at the date would be 1.6, which broke 480p compatibility of other games on later revisions of the consoles... You can confirm this because 1.4 and 1.5 revisions came out with an earlier version of the firmware and worked with all these Sega games in 480p, however upon patching the console with the "Fable" 480p compatibility patch it suddenly broke the mentioned Sega games' 480p mode. I can personally confirm that I have a 1.2 or 1.3 Xbox and I updated my console with the latest firmware and Panzer Dragoon Orta and Jet Set Radio still output in 480p mode properly.
Xbox version 1.0 to 1.3 used the "Conexant" video chip, whille 1.4 and 1.5 used the "Focus" video chip and the latest revision 1.6 used the "Xcalibur" video chip.

Checking in. Still no mitigation for resolution switching?
Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister
As in when a game switches from 240p to 480i? No that will never be fixed. There hasn't been an update since May and even that was a very minor one.

Yeah, I figured Micomsoft wasn't going to do anything about that. I'm aware of that. I was talking more about any other solutions?austin532 wrote:As in when a game switches from 240p to 480i? No that will never be fixed. There hasn't been an update since May and even that was a very minor one.

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister
My apologies ahead of time to experts that already know how this works, but I started experimenting with the "VIDEO_SET" options while testing NES games in composite output. I found that the "PEDESTAL_LVL" function when enabled will actually correct the hue shift the Framemeister normally does on NES composite, which was a major issue during my direct capture work for NESRGB palettes. However, this feature (in order for it to work properly) has to be used in conjunction with "HDMI_SET" >> "OUTPUT_COLOR" = "AUTO" and "OUTPUT_RANGE" = "FULL". Then from there I set the brightness to 25, gamma to 20, black to zero, and saturation to 25. Adjusting either Brightness or Gamma any higher starts to shift the hue values unfortunately, so darker games like Castlevania would have to remain dark in order to keep hue accuracy.
So what this means is I will likely be capturing a new palette based on these settings, which I'm planning on releasing in the same package as the NES Classic palette when that comes out on Nov. 11th.
Here's a comparison shot of the hotly debated red bricks in the 2nd stage of Castlevania (pedestal disabled on left, pedestal enabled on right):

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister
Quick noob question
Say I have just updated my Framemeister with the latest Firmware, and I still need folder XRGBmini->EEPData for profiles... do I just delete the remaining folders, that is:
XRGBmini->EDID
XRGBmini->invdata
XRGBmini->Update
Or just XRGBmini->Update ?
Thanks!

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister
Need some help/advice please
PAL SMS (60 HZ switch) > HD Retrovision Genesis Component Cable > FM
Works fine with native output (50hz) but when I flick the switch to 60hz, the FM outputs audio only. I've read that with this switch installed, the SMS outputs PAL60. Anyone know if this would explain why the FM doesn't display any video and how to fix this?
I don't think it's the TV, as putting the component cable direct to the TV works fines, albeit with the TV's inferior handling of 240p.
