I like that price and I'll make sure to get this once it gets released!
Hope they'll put a poster/sticker in for the DC version as well. The cover art for the Neo Geo version looks great so hopefull they'll retain that.

I don't see any reason why not, but even if it isn't than that's no problem at all. There's always DC-X or another boot disk that let's you play any game no matter what region of the world it was intended for!Dale wrote:Is this Dreamcast version internationally enabled?
That's how most of us westerners play japanese DC games anyway.

May I ask why any of you would even consider $200+ for a game? Have any of you played a demo? I can understand $100 for a top notch game that's rare, but something from a new developer when you have no idea whether it's good or not?
The fact that they are thinking $700 is beyond a joke... I can't see them selling any copies...
If I sold a PC shmup for $200, would you buy it? Does the high price tag make you think it's better?

Certainly a packaged disk with box and art *could* fetch more than a $20 download. Refer back to the comiket market... the challenge is for you to make a name for yourself. Would I buy a disk of Kenta Cho's games even though they're available for free? You bet, I'd happily pay, say, $50 for a limited edition disk with art, maybe signed...nexic wrote:May I ask why any of you would even consider $200+ for a game? Have any of you played a demo? I understand where you are coming from with that, but $200 or even $700 is just taking it too far. As I mentioned these guys are new on the scene and no one even knows if the game is any good or not...Certainly a packaged disk with box and art *could* fetch more than a $20 download. Agreed, and I sort of answered your post without really thinking about the context. $200 is too much for me for just about any game. $700 is divorce territorynexic wrote:I understand where you are coming from with that, but $200 or even $700 is just taking it too far. Yeah, on their website somewhere it says an MVS release is not in the works.superhitachi4 wrote:Guess there's not going to be an MVS release? :?
The high price for the AES release is justified because...well, it's the AES :) The hardcore collectors probably won't think twice about plopping it down.
Of course I think anyone that buys the AES version is crazy as hell considering the $40 DC release, but meh.

I just watched that video, and it looks the sort of thing that the amiga underground scene used to do. And I don't mean to sound too excited by saying this.
"Blast Off the Evil Empire..." Meh, I don't really think the Neo Geo needed an amateurish R-Type ripoff (for obvious reasons)... Still, DC library would benefit from it.
Let's hope they do something more original next. As the homebrew status should imply...

I am quite impressed with the whole project, the resolution looks pretty high for the neo geo and its very slick. The price of the game is so high because the roms/cart shells/boxes are likely being ripped from other games that didn't sell and the printing materials won't be cheap either. I believe the word on neo-geo.com is that the cases and shells will come from unsold KOF2003's. That means $250+ of inventory is being sacrificed per cartridge used at the minimum.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

I still don't know why they won't do an MVS version? It's not like I expect it to be much cheaper than the AES version, although an MVS sac cart will reduce cost by about £100 at least.
Jeff from Vektorlogic was there offering to do an MVS run on nice newley made boards. No idea what must have occured for them to now refuse an MVS release?
I'm sure they really don't have to worry about an MVS version being used in actual arcades though, this is something that's gonna stay within the fan community.
Oh well, looks like I'll be getting the DC version then. If it's any good that is.

I guess I just don't understand this stuff very well, but how can it be so expensive to make a catridge? How were games ever sold for $40 if it costs $250 each to produce? It seems totally stupid... Surely there is an easier way to produce these? That means $250+ of inventory is being sacrificed per cartridge used at the minimum.
You may consider me a jerk for saying this, but I think the people who collect these have a lot more money than sense. If you want to experience the 'good old days' grab Mame, get roms and play on your PC with one of these: http://www.xgaming.com/two-player.shtml. Hell you could even build an arcade cabinet around the PC... Infact I'm pretty sure from lurking here that a lot of you do this anyway.
I wish I could just causally spend $700 on a game...

The carts are NOT newly produced.nexic wrote:I guess I just don't understand this stuff very well, but how can it be so expensive to make a catridge? They actually use carts from officially used games to store their own game on (keep in mind that this game is not officially endorsed/approved by SNK). And though I am no expert on NG cart prices apparently a mint/new condition KoF 2003 cart is quite expensive on the market.
So they don't produce a $250 cart, they just use one which has a game on it costing around that price.

The NG release is just so they could say "we did it." For $700 I'm pretty disappointed that they didn't make new carts, instead opting to damage real games (Dion makes his own games now? )
Just a joke - but I hope they make good money off the DC release (steer 'em in the right direction there).

just watched the vid.
look forward to the (possible?) dc release, as the game looks pretty interesting.
note: i'd never spring for the AES release though, that shit is too expensive.
also, not sure how far along that build is but the pod needs to destroy enemies, not just cancel bullets.

Because to produce new plastic cart shells and new PCBs that don't violate any of SNKs copywrites is expensive, we're talking thousands and thousands of pounds. It wouldn't be worth it unless they were planning to sell a few hundred games, or start publishing other Neo homebrew onto cart for people. Obviously these guys don't have that sort of financial backing, so converting carts is the easier way to go.Ed Oscuro wrote:For $700 I'm pretty disappointed that they didn't make new carts, instead opting to damage real games
And this is why I'm pissed there's no MVS release. Vektorlogic has spent the money on making new MVS carts that don't violate SNK copywrite (and have a funky purple shell) that these guys could have used. It would have dropped the price a lot, and maybe led to VL investing in making new AES carts.
Oh well, their loss. I will have this on MVS, even if I have to do a cart hack myself. Although I'd buy the DC version.
