Bought it mainly to access the new Iconoclasts alpha build. As he indicates on his website, this is even shorter than the last public release - it mainly adds a new move and changes up the existing bosses a little.

Still, good to see he's revisiting and reevaluating everything. Lots of subtle polishing is happening as well.

There was going to be a WiiWare version, it was canceled along with a few other Nicalis games because they didn't think the platform was profitable anymore.

I completely missed this. It's like every few months you hear about something else that Nicalis cancels. (Except new Cave Story ports, those will never end.)

However, if that means Konjak didn't sign over any rights to Nicalis like all those other authors, that can only be good news. (Since he's self-publishing on Steam, I assume he didn't...)

Nicalis wasn't doing the wiiware version - that was Golgoth, the people doing the Toki remake (which is apparently still being worked on, but they're taking their sweet time).

I don't think Golgoth is EVER putting anything out. If they do, color me surprised.

I had no idea what this was. Bought it purely because it was in Indie Royale. My mind is completely blown by how much fun it is.

I have no idea why NL2 isn't more widely known and enjoyed. It's not deficient in any respect - looks great, souns great, plays great. It shames pretty well every game of its kind, and certainly every indie game.

After doing my hardest to show this game to people this week, I've come to terms with the fact that there just aren't a lot of people who want to play this kind of game.

Before you ask: even with twitchy action gamers, I get no interest.

I have to admit, the aesthetics are kind of a turnoff. It has that Paul Robertson/Bryan Lee O'Malley "Westerners trying too hard to make Japanese cutesy/edgy stuff" vibe that strikes me as rather cynical and pretentious. There isn't any cohesion to the world; you could slap any of the characters or bosses into any indie platformer.

Plays great though. Konjak clearly studied up on Treasure games.

Bought this during the summer sale.

It's as if Treasure made a PC game. I'm really enjoying it.

Playing on hard is a must though. Easy is a cakewalk.

Looking forward to The Iconoclasts.

This is now up on Wii U and the 3DS. I downloaded the Wii U version, and it works quite well. I sort of go between looking at the TV, and then looking at the controller for boss battles. You can obviously play the whole game on the controller (you cannot use the Pro Controller). I'm assuming it's the same on the 3DS.

Give it a look. It's only 10 bucks.

Yeah, on Wii U you can also play it with Wiimote+Nunchuck if you wanna have Sin & Punishment 2: The Platformer. I personally prefer it to Gamepad+Stylus at the moment, but that's mostly because trying to hold the gamepad with one hand makes my hand cramp up.
Though, admittedly, using the Wiimote flicks for the special moves is kinda rough, and trying to double-tap with the analogue stick isn't much better.
