Sometimes you can be outta line and completely right at the same time.

This has got to be the pettiest argument I've seen in this thread.

The problem is he doesn't know much about what constitutes making Japanese titles often more worthy to play and reference versus their western counterparts. Therefore it appears as pretension, rather than knowledge or sharing of knowledge.
Gamers have been discussing nerfed western releases in open mainstream since 1991. I'm sick of every kid on the internet digging up a 25 year old nugget of common knowldge and selling it as some kind of unique insight.

Someone saying the Japanese name of a game (usually) isn't meant to show how cool and knowledgeable they are; it's just to call it by the original name.

I did not know about the difference in the two versions of GNG, Bloodlines, or NG3 till I did some research and asked some people on this very site. I wouldn't call that common knowledge, but whatever. I'm not trying to impress anyone. No one here is. I was just telling you which versions of the two games I prefer, and which title I prefer to call it by to distinguish it.

Even though SHMUPs are largely becoming PC-only, they still only allow name entry through cycling symbols with the arrow keys rather than letting you input your initials with the letter keys

My game does that, but maybe I'll change it to allow keyboard entry. Good idea.

Blissfully typing away on a website when something else decides to load, or it tries to do something clever like give you a pop-up selection box, that takes the focus off the text box at the moment you hit backspace. It doesn't happen often but when it does it sends me from zero to angry in nanoseconds.

Also mobile websites that seem to be totally broken just to get you to download the app. Whose only functional difference from the mobile site is that things actually load. Why have bookmarks in your browser when you can have a hundred fucking apps buried in your phone taking up space?

Chrome actually removed the "backspace to go back" shortcut not too long ago because of this, so I guess you're not alone. (If you want the shortcut back you have to install an extension.)

Image copper and gold, feel the bling, it makes everything sound better.

And of course you are encouraged to buy the $3,000 premium headphones, or the desktop DAC/amp for $2,200 while you're at it.

PayPal not transferring my bank account money instantaneously. I'm out of PayPal money to buy more shmups on sale with, but I have $66.07 in my bank account. By the time the money transfers, though, the sale will be over. God fucking dammit.

At least I got Crimzon Clover, Darius Burst, Shmups Skill Test, and Deathsmiles (not emo; just really good deal).

NOTE: I WASN'T EXACTLY TELLING THE TRUTH IN THIS POST, OR THE REST OF THEM IN THE ARGUMENT THIS STARTED. HERE'S THE REAL REASON, AS I PM'D SKYKID OVER A MONTH LATER:
I wrote:The real reason I wanted to sell my BVM was because I was afraid of damaging it due to it being in the corner of my room next to my desk, and I had no better place to put it (there are 3 fucking CRTs in my room). I also felt guilty every time I saw it because I fucked up the deflection card (burnt part of a trace) when recapping it. I also broke my VA3 Genesis 1 that way

Selling it for not having RF is fucking retarded; I made that up.

I also decided not to sell it. I don't want an RGB-modded NES, but I'd sure like a composite-modded NES 101 (no adapter required, unlike AV Famicom).

And even I don't know what the fuck I was saying about using composite for Genesis/MD and that shit. I'll use RGB from that and through an RGB-to-YUV transcoder if using a consumer CRT without RGB. Same for other things. My thing now is just use the best possible signal the console came with (unless it's RF, in which case mod it for composite and S-Video).
Being subscribed to some lame threads about RGB and RGB monitors because of my past idiocy. I don't fucking care about N64's "anti-aliasing" or RGB or anything anymore! I'm using fucking composite video for my Genesis even though I've seen how good it looks in RGB on my BVM, and I don't give a fuck! I'm actually thinking of selling my BVM-20F1U because it's currently just taking up space in my room and I don't like using it because it doesn't have RF (and I don't want to have to keep a VCR around just to play my NES toploader (and I don't give a single fuck that it's RF and has jailbars)), doesn't have built-in speakers (don't want more equipment because my room is just average-sized), and the [un]scan[ned] lines are too damn thick; the image doesn't even look solid! I'm 100% fine with just using a consumer CRT and using the highest non-RGB format for every console (don't feel like spending money on an RGB-to-YUV transcoder; could buy some games with that money). Like, do the people in those threads actually play any games?

Skykid wrote:You're thinking of selling your BVM because it doesn't have RF?

That's the dumbest fucking thing I've ever seen posted in public.
Well, that's not the only reason. I mainly want to sell it because I feel that a regular North American consumer CRT TV does just fine despite not having RGB. I think the scanlines are so well-defined that the image doesn't even look solid, and the overall sharpness of the image makes the imperfections a lot more noticeable and jarring.

I also don't want external speakers in my setup with wires to get tangled with other stuff.

It's currently taking up space in my room, my family's storage locker is full of other CRTs I found and can't fit anything else, and I don't want to damage it further because I already burnt a trace on the deflection card when trying to recap it due to lack of soldering knowledge/skill (also happened with my model 1 VA3 Genesis). My dad managed to sorta fix it by putting solder over the burnt trace and the picture looks the same as before, though.

I also don't feel like modding my NES 101 because I feel that RF is good enough. I don't feel like having to have a VCR every time I want to play NES. Not to mention other RF-only consoles.

If I sell it, I might get some money that I could use to buy other stuff. It's not like I'm throwing it out. Speaking of which, I could get a lot of games with the money required to RGB mod every console without it, and I don't feel like worrying about shit like the SNES and Neo Geo not being razor-sharp.

And didn't all of you disagree with me in that thread last fall when I was trying to get that kid to use CRTs because it doesn't really matter how the game looks, but rather how it plays?

I'm pretty shitty at soldering, and I still managed to make a fine AV mod on my 101 (it's overdue for an RGB upgrade tho). The most difficult part for me was actually desoldering the transistor that I needed for the amp.

Soldering actually has nothing to do with me not caring about AV modding my NES 101. These are the reasons:

1. I think it already looks good enough.
2. I don't want to put holes in it because I kinda want to preserve it; after all, it is rare (if there was major cosmetic wear, however, I would be fine with this).

And I seriously couldn't care less about RGB modding it.

Why the fuck am I being attacked for not being obsessed with picture quality? I care about fucking gameplay!!!

Seriously, this is basically the same thing as that "How to get retro gamer kid to use CRTs?" thread I made. Again: all of you attacked me for being obsessed with RGB and RGB monitors, but now you are attacking me for not caring about them. Do you realize how hypocritical that is? It's like you people intentionally choose the side opposing mine so you can shit on me.

I want to see what a lot of you older people would've posted on message boards had you had internet (or BBSs, which already existed) when you were 15/16. I remember Durandal mentioning that when he was a kid, he was hated on a message board as well.

I don't even get credit for being probably the only 16-year-old today who can beat games as hard as Ninja Gaiden and NES Gradius. Most 16-year-olds today probably can't even beat Super Mario Bros. I mean, the hatred towards me would be a lot more justified if I were just average at video games for a kid my age (like talk about how hard something like SMB is and whine about games where the controls aren't perfect and call them unfair) and time and did things like use savestates, but I don't do that shit. People here like to call me stuff like a noob, when if I were a noob I wouldn't be able to beat NES games.

YES, YOU PEOPLE WERE RIGHT!!! I have no fucking idea what I was saying in these posts.
Skykid wrote:That wasn't an attack, it was an observation. And it stands.
OK, you're right: that wasn't an attack. I still don't get why selling a BVM is such a dumb thing. If it were just over RF, I would agree that that would be stupid, but I gave other reasons including simply not caring about the high-quality picture and the fact that I'd rather buy other stuff with the money.
trap15 wrote:Nobody gives a shit how good or bad you are at video games when you act like an asshole and or idiot.
Yes, you're right about that. However, it would be nice if you kept in mind that my brain hasn't even finished developing yet. I'm not as old as the rest of you. I don't have the same amount of experience. I've clearly matured somewhat since I started here considering how I don't make threads about stuff like asking how to learn a language in around a week anymore. Maybe in another year I'll be even better.
