Last I checked, SCART cables for RGB consoles were readily available, but getting a pre-made HD-15 cable for a SNES or Genesis or PSX or whatnot is difficult if not impossible.

Retro_console_accessories made them for me. She offers SNES cables already and is willing to wire any other console's cable for it as well if you ask.

I didn't mean to use RGB cables for both systems, just one of them. It's probably cheaper and higher quality (though practically imperceptible differences).Stufio wrote: Thank you for your input. I was honestly aiming for the HDRetrovision cables for simplicity and price. I figured that, being from North America, I would future-proof my consoles using Component over RGB Scart, since none of my equipment at all includes Scart. I also thought that it might be less expensive to get 4 Component cables and 1 Component switch over 2 component cables with a Component switch and 2 Scart cables with a Scart Switch and Scart to JP21 adaptor. Maybe I'm wrong. I'll calculate the prices of both options.
I'll look at the HDS4 switch. Thanks for the recommendation.
If you do that you'll have 0 RGB ports remaining, but if you get both HDRetrovision cables and a 4 port component switch you'll have 0 component ports remaining.

I've been using this for years:
http://www.cheatcc.com/xb/rev/zektorhds ... eview.html
While I haven't taken it to the extreme with comparing it to a direct connect, I did put them side by side back in the day and didn't notice anything at all.
It was pretty expensive back then and may still be as there are not many out there.
If you can find one, I highly recommend it.

That's retardedbobrocks95 wrote:Lord of Pirates wrote:Is the FW up to date? I guess there's always the possibility updating it might cause more trouble. I haven't tried one of the other switches from them, but I thought someone else on here had told me their switch did the same thing. A really simple way to check was the Kingdom Hearts title screen coming up, selecting a level in Super Mario Galaxy, or any other all-white screen.
The firmware is the newest available, and I emailed Audio Authority to verify that it can't be downgraded, so I can't try an earlier version. Oh, and the firmware also got rid of the auto-switching feature, so it's manual switching only. Again, not sure how anybody would have put up with it for $2,000.
Sorry to derail the thread just a bit!
On topic I'll say that anybody just now getting into RGB should go ahead and skip SCART entirely if they think they'll ever want a switch for it (and don't live in Europe). I now use DB-15 connectors and a 12 input professional-grade Extron VGA switch I got for $20 on ebay. Those with fewer consoles, or mixing component sources in, should probably go with Retrovision cables, as mentioned above.
Sorry about the wait, I had my Wii put away. None of the white screens in SMG caused the signal to drop. I have the switch running through my VP30. I'll try and test directly to the TV sometime today.

Were I to start now I would absolutely go this route.bobrocks95 wrote:On topic I'll say that anybody just now getting into RGB should go ahead and skip SCART entirely if they think they'll ever want a switch for it (and don't live in Europe). Just tested it on the TV, no problems with SMG. Main menu flash, galaxy load flash, and the level select flash caused no problems.Lord of Pirates wrote:That's retarded. For $2,000 I'd expect to have access to every FW, preferably with a full changelog, and upgrade or downgrade willy-nilly.

Edit: Why not use your Extron for component switching too? I didn't check every product page but, it seems like the Crosspoint Ultra series supports basically everything someone could throw at it. The size and not wanting to deal with the audio connectors is the only thing that's put me off of getting one.

My switch is probably just awful then lol. I'll be rid of it soon enough, and maybe the other AA switches are worth recommending.Just tested it on the TV, no problems with SMG. Main menu flash, galaxy load flash, and the level select flash caused no problems.

Here is my switch, except mine is ~twice as long and has 12 inputs:
Spoiler

I could probably feed component through mine, but it's hooked up to my CRT rather than my plasma, and it'd be a lot of adapters. A crosspoint is a probably a good recommendation for someone with the room and lots of mixed RGB and component devices.
RGB to component converters using SCART connectors as a standard is a real shame, I think that's the main reason everything trended towards SCART in the US. If Chinese companies had cloned something other than the CSY we'd be a lot better off imo...FinalBaton wrote:Were I to start now I would absolutely go this route.bobrocks95 wrote:On topic I'll say that anybody just now getting into RGB should go ahead and skip SCART entirely if they think they'll ever want a switch for it (and don't live in Europe). It's possible that something is faulty. The SW VGA switches support HDTV component (progressive only?) according to Extron. Probably not worth the hassle if it requires a bunch of adapters.bobrocks95 wrote:My switch is probably just awful then lol.
