Sony BVM-D32E1WU issues

Post by Salem »

Hey guys, I'm sorry to disturb you all but I really need help with this one. I'm not home at the moment (Just left for work) so I'll try my best to describe my problem.

I recently ordered a Sony BVM-D32E1WU and I was excited to get it hooked up and play my retro consoles. Before setting it up properly I first wanted to test it out.

I brought my Sega Genesis (Model 1 "High Definition Graphics") and connected it to the monitor via SCART to BNC. All my cables have "Passive Sync" (Which I believe is also CSync) and I purchased them from RetroGamingCables.

So I hook up the BNC into the analog inputs of the monitor, including the sync input. And for the outputs I connected 75Ohm resistors to them (I've heard this must be done to tone down RGB levels).

So I then switch on my console and the image is all messed up, it does nothing but flash random colors and occasionally show and image that keeps acting up and has a purple tint.

I've tried to do everything but I have no idea what to do. I hope it's not an issue with the monitor.

Here's the only photo I have for now, will post more. Thanks:

switch from internal sync to external sync? (3rd button from the left on your control unit)

You have to setup the channel for RGBS input and external sync. This can be done with the on-screen menu.

Just out of curiosity, where did you pickup the monitor and how many hours are listed? The hours are on the last page of the status menu.

I just wanted to say thanks a lot you guys! My problem's not 100% fixed, but I'm getting close! I'm having an actual picture this time.

I tried that but it would make the image act up. Turns out I had to switch the settings to "EXT". After I did that it worked.

I got my monitor from eBay.

I had to switch the inputs from "YPbPr" to "RGB" and sync from "INT" to "EXT"

It fixed the color flashing but I'm having an issue with geometry. And when I switch the aspect ratio it makes the image into a letterbox format but is still stretched.

I'm also getting weird purple tints on the top left and top right of the screen. Any idea why this is?

I attached more pictures here and I've included the hour usage:

I think you'll need to do a manual degauss (not using the built-in function) to get rid of the uniformity issues. Congratulations for picking up this nice CRT!

Ebay? Wow I bet you had to pay out the ass for that thing! Sellers on ebay are extortionists.

Is a degaussing coil all I need? Because like I said when I click the aspect ratio switch it switches to a letterbox format and not 4:3.

Is there something I'm missing from the settings of the monitor?

a degauss wand should do the trick for the purple color.
But your geometry is way off, especially the image rotation (the image is tilted a bit counter-clockwise)

These monitors costs well over $40,000 new and there were less than 1,000 made. They are without a doubt the pinnacle of CRT technology. If you want to save money or go budget, go with a low-lag Vizio and OSSC, but don't act like these aren't rare or worth the cost for some people.

No, that isn't the issue. You need to correct the white uniformity and it is depending on what direction the monitor is facing – north, west, south, etc. There is a submenu for this. I had this same problem when I picked mine up. You'll then have to manual tweak it to get it right. Its a little tedious. I think you'll see that the upper left hand corner has a yellow tint if I'm not mistaken.

Right, sorry, I should have mentioned that. These monitors are a little complicated. Once you have it for a while though you'll get used to it.

You may just have to adjust it to fix the issue. Was this sent freight?

Also, do you have any other RGB consoles to test with? I think the Mega Drive has something odd with the sync. I remember it gave my Extron Crosspoint some problems.

Best Regards
