After Burner Climax!!!!!....

Post by dave4shmups »

http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/689/689263p1.html

  OH MOMMA I WANT THIS GAME!!!

Looks like we'll have to wait a while, though-according to IGN it hasn't even been released in arcades yet. The official website for the game listed in one of those videos doesn't work either, and I can't find squat on Sega's JP website. Also-that same video has the AM2 logo-I thought they had been disolved?

At any rate, I can't wait for this-and now I can see people's points about IGN and release dates-they have this listed for the 360 already!

BTW, what's the "AOU" show? And how is it different from the TGS?

AOU is only arcade games.

This will be released on the X-Box 360, right ?

I am sold. This alone sold it to me. I will have an X-Box 360 (Unless this game is also released in another system).

I've always been a big fan of Afterburner. This is looking... I can't even describe... fantastic, awesome, incredible... It seems to play like afterburner except a lot lot lot more exciting.

All it says is "TBA", for the 360, so who knows if we'll even see it this year. I have not seen any listing for this game for the PS3.

But, yeah, this would probably sell the system to me as well! :D

Although, I still don't understand why the website address shown in one of the 3 videos, www.sega-afterburner.com doesn't even work, or why there's no mention of the game on Sega's JP Amusement site.

I honestly have not played any of the Afterburner series, can someone tell me what it's about exactly? Is it a shmup or a flight sim like Ace Combat?
The world would be a better place if there were less shooters and more dot-eaters.

It doesn't matter how this get released. If IT IS released on the 360, I will have one someday.

It will probably be YEARS after its released, but it doesn't matter, I WILL PLAY this game at my house someday :)

Yes, Afterburner is more into Ace Combat territory... but its even less of a simulation. It's not a shmup, but it's an arcade shooter which doesn't give a shit about realism, and it's all about speed and adrenaline and dodging missiles at a high speed. Even to this day, Afterburner is still one of the most adrenalin-pumping game you can play.

Look at the video, it will give you a good glimpse of what the gameplay in afterburner is

What? What i meant was 'those are awesome graphics that made me splooge and they are on the 360. Since the PS3 will have better graphical powers then games will look even sweeter on that system. Let me reiterate the fact that i splooge.' :D

Same here, but it just ticks me off that IGN listed it as coming out for the 360 BEFORE it's even in arcades. And where the heck's Sega's official site on this game after releasing more footage of it at AOU? I wonder if Sega just released the URL for the game prematurely, before the site's up. I'd like to be able to visit a website on this game, so I keep drooling over it until it get's a home console port.

Ace Combat is more shooter then sim, but it still has a lot more realism then After Burner.

I don't care which system of the new 3 will be the most powerfull; I'll probably end up owning them all. I might as well file for bankrupcy and food stamps now.

Blade: Afterburner series is about flying jets really fast and obliterating all the enemies. Pure arcade asskicking. For people that thought G-LOC was too accurate a simulation of plane flight. ;)

Yeah, thanks, I just found it! :D I Googled for After Buner Climax, and found the real website for the game-it seems that it's being developed on Sega's Lindbergh arcade board. Which makes me wonder, which console that's out, or will be coming out, is most similar to this board?

More info on the game, for those who can read Japanese:

http://sega.jp/arcade/lindbergh/title_ab.html

Is that Yu Suzuki's photo at the bottom, or someone else's?

I really like the colorful visuals... I'm pretty sure AM2 doesn't get many nasty letters from the Blue Skies in Video Games campaign.

"TBA to be on 360". You guys realize the arcade ports of this shit isn't even out yet... it wasn't even playable at the AOU show (not to mention Lindbergh favors no home console architecture).

If VF5 comes out on the 360, I will do something very crazy. Maybe go streaking in Utah or something.

EDIT: I have some VF5 footage I'll post later this week.

I heard the PS3 comes fitted with a special chip called the "Infinity Reactor" which can render a billion polygons in a 60th of a frame, solve world hunger, and join the collective minds of every artist in the world to put images of true beauty onto every TV in the world simultaneously. Occasionally it will also make toast.

That's what the Sony press release is saying anyway! Some guy on the Intarweb said so on the PS3 forums!! OMFG!!!!!111

... Common sense dictates that the PS3 will have better graphics than the 360. 8)

I'm not trying to down on the 360 - but chances are it will not be as nice as the PS3.

People can act sarcastic about it all they want - but i'll still be right come launch day. :D

I doubt we'll see the difference on launch day due to lack of familiarity with the PS3 hardware from a developer standpoint. Plus by that point 360 game graphical quality will be beginning to hit its stride. As an example, show me a PS2 launch game that looked better than the Dreamcast version of MDK2 (not counting Primal Image Vol. 1 :P ). You also have to decide what you consider good "graphics." Many Dreamcast games ran at a more consistent framerate than most PS2 games, the Dreamcast had somewhat better texture manipulation (and could push higher resolution textures in most cases), etc. There's really no way to tell how good or bad any of the system's graphics will be on a finished game until the game itself is out.

Just seems silly to bring system wars into a thread about two awesome looking arcade games anyway, no matter how much you think it's common sense. ;)

VF5 on PS3 is a no-brainer, Sega would be stupid not to do that. I do hope both do get 360 releases as well since though since they'll get more exposure that way.

What's the Lindbergh's guts like? If they were on Chihiro I'd say a 360 port would be obvious but Sega seems to have dropped that completely?

Sega did a great job supporting both the PS2 and the XBox (moreso the XBox IMO) this generation so I look forward to seeing what they do.

I'm still waiting for that "promised" Planet Harriers port though. ;)

I remember the official stance on renegging on that and not porting it. The game was too short for console audiences.

A week later I the Dreamcast ports of 18 Wheeler and Charge 'N Blast on the shelf at Gamestop.

And no, Chihiro-to-360 would not be obvious. The Chihiro is very similar to the original Xbox, which is completely different from the 360.

hmmm.... this may be blasphemy  but it kind of looks like the original Afterburner but with tarted up graphics. sorry to say this but unless they come up with some rather smart gameplay changes.. then i'm afraid it won't be "all that" (on console anyway). we've moved on from the 80's by now. tho im sure that it will be worth a quick 50p slot in the arcades (looks fkin ace anyway)

EDIT : Maybe i was never much of a fan of the original Afterburner judging by everyone else remarks :? i always preferred space harrier

I liked Galaxy Force (II) best - there's been a Sega Ages port rumoured for AGES, but it keeps slipping down the schedule. Word was, Sega planned to make the first arcade perfect port of it.

That's what I was saying, although I didn't know that it wasn't playable at the AOU. Thanks for the info about Lindbergh. I'm still surprised that AM2 is together again-there was a whole thread on an earlier incarnation of this site about AM2 being dissolved.

But with Sega's good support of the XBOX, and the fact that Outrun 2 was ported to the XBOX in 2004-a year after it was released in arcades-I wouldn't be at all surprised if this gets a 360 port.'

House of the Dead 4 and Virtua Cop 3 are still "TBA" for the XBOX, although I don't know if either will ever see the light of day.

Rumor I'm sure... or perhaps you're mistaking it for the reports of Yu Suzuki not working with AM2 (which are true, and have been for a while now).
But with Sega's good support of the XBOX, and the fact that Outrun 2 was ported to the XBOX in 2004-a year after it was released in arcades-I wouldn't be at all surprised if this gets a 360 port.'
You're missing the point Dave. Chihiro = Xbox w/ some RAM. That means a port is very similar to a Naomi game getting a Dreamcast port. Outrun2 BARELY came out. It was even scrapped once if I'm not mistaken, despite the fact that a monkey could do the port. This is brand new hardware, ported to brandnew hardware. Of course it would be nice to see it, but it's pure speculation at this port. Sega really didn't go out of their way to support the Xbox other than a few titles... many of which were more popular in the US to begin with (eg: JSR and Panzer Dragoon).
