Hello Devil REI:

I have been looking for a copy of DOJ. If you do sell it, let me know. Since I am playing for survival at the moment, I won't mind so much about the scoring system.

Cheers.

Target Price $70.

I think that's the current market price of a mint/new copy.

DOJ is demanding, but as chtimi said, once you chain a stage it gets much more interesting. What I love about the game, and why I consider it (aside from the godly Ketsui) the best shooter made, is that each level is like a game unto itself. You have to plan, experiment, and practice practice practice to connect that chain, and once you finally do, the feeling of satisfaction is second to none.

When I finally nailed the first two stages, grabbing those final two bees before the second boss was like the cherries on top; I felt like I had reached the top of the mountain...only to see that this was just the beginning and there was much further to go. Way more satisfying than the feeling I get when I beat entire games.

Still, while the game just keeps getting harder, the sheer impossibility of the task is what keeps me engaged. It's like someone finally made the unbeatable game, and only those with an iron will and lackluster social life will find a way.

If you need convincing, let me tell you I sold mine and I regret it pretty badly.

I need some DDP DOJ right now :(

I just got this, Galuda, and Mushimime.

I'm not sure where to go with this. I've sucked at chaining since Dodonpachi so I don't expect to go far with this(watching the demo chain the first two minutes of the game made me give it the finger).

As far as survival is concerned. On my first play of the game I got to stage three and was then promptly slaughtered. To be honest I haven't gotten much further than that.

Problem is ESP Galuda and Mushimime to me are just more interesting. Galuda has that great system for getting huge amounts of points with the slowdown/bullet eliminate/whatever stuff. In that I've managed to reach stage 5(though the final boss still eats me with cornbread).

Mushimime on the other hand is just a lot easier to get into. I switched over to Maniac setting in the main game since I couldn't get into the Psyiko-ish bullet spreads(too fast for me :( ) and I'm having a ball. I played this in front of a couple friends and they were really impressed with some of the crazy situations I was able to dodge out of. Arrange mode was also a hoot and I did manage to reach stage 5 in that.

So to make it short. In a few hours I was able to 1CC up to the final stages in both Galuda and Mushimime as well as have a ton of fun pulling out of ridiculous situations. While in the time I spent with DoJ I get as far as stage 3 before they pull the rug out from under me. The entire game felt designed to mess me up. I mean what's with the bomb stock in relation to dolls/ship selection? Granted I know bomb use in any game(especially DDP) is a big No-No but still, kind of mixed me up a bit.

(And yeah I'm a big bomb whore. I love how in Mush's Arrange mode you autobomb if you get hit.)

All three games are great though, and I think over time I'll grow to appreciate DoJ more.

yeah, DOJ is definitely a game you appreciate more with time.
even now i'm still noticing little details like the ripple impact of your shot. i have also noticed the game becomes slightly trippy over time, the graphics that i used to find drab now seem to emit a strange coloured light, the stage 1 music is really strange too, as if it were slightly off but you can't put your finger on it. sometimes a given component of the tune is dominant even though you had barely noticed it the last time.

edit: are you still playing DOJ NTSC-J?

Not as much as I'd like to atm. Once I'm done with finals I'm moving overseas and the only system I plan on bringing is my JPS2 so I can focus on DOJ.

You and J2d could use some competition!

It's the same case to me. It was said that DOJ was made for people good enough to 1cc most shmups. i.e. could 1cc Galuda and Mushihime (minus Ultra Mode).

All I know is DOJ is a great game that is too difficult for my current skill level.
