I regret playing Parodius DA! every time I face the stage 5 boss (and if it's the arcade version, lose all my lives to it), but I keep playing it anyway because I want to play stage 6 and I haven't bothered setting up savestates yet to practice individual stages.

Slightly more seriously, I don't regret having played League of Legends and Dota 2 and seen what they're about, but I definitely spent more time on them than I should have, especially Dota 2.

NTSC-J: You know STGs are in trouble when you have threads on how to introduce them to a wider audience and get more people playing followed by threads on how to get its hardcore fan base to play them, too.

Somehow, I doubt I really regret playing any game. Well, I do regret grinding story events (instead of Item World) in Disgaea 1&2 and I sort of regret having pissed so many hours down Tactics Ogre PSX port's drain. Basically, when a Japanese turn-based tactics game is widely praised for anything, it's typically praised by the those who either

a) were in their mid-to-late teens/early twenties when PSX was current gen or

b) don't play turn-based tactics (or strategy) games from any other country (Advance Wars and the original Shining Force are the exceptions that prove the rule; I've yet to play any Fire Emblem game and I LIKE the FFTAdvance's storytelling too).

Every time I find a Kung Fu Master cabinet I play it (once or twice a year), and almost every credit sees my failing at Mr. X.

I also have been playing the following since they were released:

Monthly:
Outrun
Yie Ar Kung Fu
Street Fighter whatever. Super Turbo I play the most followed by IV. Played a few matches in V yesterday for the first time and did OK.
Pinball Fx - Would love a cab of this in my home one day.

Every 1 - 2 years:
Zillion
MDK 2
Fur Fighters

3 - 5 years:
Grandia 2
Skies of Arcadia

You're sure to be in a fine haze about now, but don't think too hard about all of this. Just go out and kill a few beasts. It's for your own good. You know, it's just what hunters do! You'll get used to it.

If there's one game I regret playing, it would be the first Sims game. I tried it out, got bored of it quickly and dropped it, at which point my siblings got completely hooked on it and started hogging the computer for hours on end.
