Nice!
Do you use the toothpaste laser a lot or does vulcan + auto work better in most situations?
Hope the replay gets uploaded as a video; I'm having trouble finding the version of MAME you used.

Re: Raiden II
I plan to upload a video sometime, but you can find mameuifx v0.168 here. Personally, I use the vulcan gun as my main weapon and I use the freeze pop laser or the toothpaste laser as the situation demands. On stage 7 I default to the toothpaste laser due to the thick space debris. I use nuclear missiles for extra power on the first two stages and homing missiles after that.

Arcade Board( normal difficulty, us set 1)

Losing all lives at stage 3 ( and having nothing for the boss) sure is a great way to start this off! This definitely looks like a long term project.......

Arcade (regular board) - Normal
Jaimers - 4,676,370 - 2-4 - 1P - Yes - MAME Plus 0.167 inp
Got super lucky since I got a full power item from a death, making it actually possible to recover.
Not sure if I want to keep playing this. Deaths are usually from stupid bullshit and 1-1 and 1-2 get really boring really fast.

Tks Dave_K, i would have some questions still asking you :
- Which versions of Raiden 2 is better ? Arcade or Playstation?
- Should i go for Colonel ? Or getting to another game? Because i sucked at Colonel and if it's another game, base on my intro, what game will be next
To let you know one more thing, i am only 19 years old

The arcade and port versions are different games, kinda. The port version is less miserable as a game, but it's still Raiden II and it's still pretty miserable.

Arcade ( Regular board, US Set 1) - Normal
maximo - 4,067,150 - 2-4 - 1P - Yes - ARCADE 0.239 Replay
Spent some time earlier this year getting a basic clear, and then came back to this recently and retooled some of my routes for additional score.
This game is a lot of fun when fully powered up, but it can get frustrating to lose a credit via a stage 5-7 death, and then not getting the weapon items/ random P item needed for that section, and get stuck in reset hell on the first few stages.
One neat tidbit ( that trap15 mentioned on a discord server) is that you can apparently play on slightly lower rank if you play out 3 credits & then start a 4th credit ( which apparently also works the same in DX). The recent ACA ports also had a twitter thread where TZW-ART mentioned that in Raiden 1, you can get the lowest starting rank by starting a credit on the 1st stage 7 demo after booting the machine.

Congrats, updated.
Oh no, we really got attract demo rank nonsense. Well, maybe it'll help. Wonder if it still works in the PS/PC version.

Even with attract demo rank game still ain't free, I only noticed that in stage 3 bullets are slightly slower and those fast jets in st4 won't fire from behind if you let them pass. Rest are the same.

Yeah, it sounds more like the devs wanted to put something like 2P side in the first game. I will totally allow it by the way.

Re: Raiden II
Tbh the advantage gain is not that big in II, except you might feel st3/4 is little easier because the rank are still lower than usual. And I have yet to feel the differences with the credit strat and without in DX, everything felt the same for me.
Because the game is that hard tbh. It took me almost 2 months of nearly daily play to get the 1CC and it's probably the hardest shmup I've ever clear yet, with playtime clocking for almost 80 hours. How about try the game on PC version through MAME next time? Unless you're doing really well with touch controls, the game requires some precise movemets from st3 onwards and I'd imagine it may be quite difficult to pull such moves with touch controls especially with emulated touch D-Pad.Nguyen VinhLOC wrote: ↑Tue Jul 02, 2024 7:25 pm Everyone, why is always the fact that i'm playing this game really well with savestate and lower difficulty on the PC version but when it comes to the arcade version with MAME4Droid 2024, i always struggle on a full 1CC runs![]()

By the way, what do you think if Dogyuun Magic mashed up with All or Nothing (stage 3 of this game)copy-paster wrote: ↑Sun Jul 07, 2024 1:07 pm Tbh the advantage gain is not that big in II, except you might feel st3/4 is little easier because the rank are still lower than usual. Re: Raiden II
Come back here after nearly half a years, i wanna ask everyone in this thread: I recently re-do the Raiden II major on PC version, but i wanna turn off the music so that i can play the Mikado song (like in video below). I've tried to pull down the BGM bar in the option, but the music didn't seems to turn off. Is there anyway to turn off the in-game music on the pc ver?
Note: This is not me playing, i edited this from torm223300 replays, and due to my Youtube channel is being taken down after three strike, i have to upload on my Google Drive

BigTimeWizard - 3,131,850 - 2-2 - 2P - No - MAME 0.255

No autofire run from a couple years back. This run has some rank manipulation via weapon swaps that I haven't seen in other runs, as well as some other minor trickery.

Re: Raiden II
gg! Great to see no autofire vids out there. I generally prefer the first game, but it is always a marvel to see people being good at the tougher sequel
Definitely feels like the purple laser dominates. I dunno if anything changed HP wise, but there is simply too much opposition in the game to use the other two weapons comfortably. The purple laser has some interesting movement tech due to its weird lock on and bendy behavior, but generally I feel like it isnt as well balanced as the first game's two weapons with very clearly demarcated roles. The constant tapping to keep the purple beam up also feels like a random marathon exercise tacked on, where the first game weapons like missiles actually give you an incentive to stop tapping for a while so you can aim them, vulcan obviously requires some tapping discipline, while the blue laser frees you from excessive tapping but has poorer coverage. Just one of the many decisions that make R2 a little less elegant than its predecessor .
