XRGB-mini Framemeister
Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister
How do you turn on the hdmi passthrough mode? I assumed it has the HDMI_1_DIRECT or HDMI_2_DIRECT under the HDMI_SET menu but when I plugged in my nanoconsole it was blurry as hell compared to when I plugged it straight into my monitor.

Well that's strange. When I tested PS4 through it, I didn't notice any difference in PQ.K0rN b4LL wrote:How do you turn on the hdmi passthrough mode? From what I understand HDMI_1_DIRECT and HDMI_2_DIRECT are not real passthrough features.FBX wrote:Well that's strange. The Picture Mode setting is still applied on the output.
What 1_DIRECT and 2_DIRECT do is preserve the input resolution though (bypassing the HDMI_OUTPUT setting).
It'd be nice to have a real 1:1 passthrough feature.

I see. Are there any setting changes you can do with it that improve the image?
Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister
For some reason I cant seem to change the Saturation-value, even thoug FDX have recommended it in his profiles. Any idea on what I need to turn on or off to be able to change the value?
Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister
Hi all, I have recently acquired a Framemeister and I have a problem. I have searched on Google using keywords to describe my issue but I just can't get an answer so hoping someone will know the answer.
I plugged my SNES NTSC into RGB IN, into the Framemeister. My TV ratio is set to 4:3 and looks like this before turning on. The two paper receipts on either side mark where the 4:3 ratio is end to end : -

Upon turning on the Framemeister it is outputting a squashed image, can someone assist in what is going on here? Thank you.

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister
If you're using RGB input, you can't change this value. It's when you use composite, S-video, or component that saturation becomes a setting you can adjust.morfeo wrote:For some reason I cant seem to change the Saturation-value, even thoug FDX have recommended it in his profiles. Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister
The XRGB-Mini isn't outputting a squashed image. It outpus a 4:3 image within a 16:9 frame, giving black bars on the sides. Set your TV to 16:9, just scan or whatever it's called and enjoy your Framemeister.C64c wrote:Upon turning on the Framemeister it is outputting a squashed image, can someone assist in what is going on here? Or you can change the aspect ratio on your Framemeister if you'd like to.
Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister
This is the result of having both your TV and Framemeister set to 4:3. You need to set your TV back to 16:9, or better yet, just set it to "full pixel" or "just scan" or whatever its called on your TV.C64c wrote:Upon turning on the Framemeister it is outputting a squashed image, can someone assist in what is going on here? Thank you both for the replys. I shall set the TV to 16:9. My TV does not have the option of 'Full Pixel' or 'Just Scan'. For info, it is a Samsung UE32J5100. Thanks again guys.AndehX wrote:This is the result of having both your TV and Framemeister set to 4:3. Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister
The full pixel setting is called Screen Fit on Samsung TV's...unless they changed it recently. Try looking for that option.

TV set to Screen Fit. I've been using that tonight as it looks better than 16:9. Slightly less stretched.austin532 wrote:The full pixel setting is called Screen Fit on Samsung TV's...unless they changed it recently. Try looking for that option.

Seems obvious, but did you load the correct profile?C64c wrote:TV set to Screen Fit. I've been using that tonight as it looks better than 16:9. Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister
I received the Framemeister on Tuesday (2nd August) and litterally plugged it in and just began playing it. I have only adjusted the IMAGE_MODE = Picture and SHARPNESS = 1. TV set to Screen Fit.axlblazeadam wrote:Seems obvious, but did you load the correct profile?C64c wrote:TV set to Screen Fit. I've been using that tonight as it looks better than 16:9. I did mess around with the ZOOM but everything was way to magnified so I turned it off.
Any recommendations on what setup I should use? I'm using SNES NTSC - RGB Scart CSYNC.
Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister
Here are the settings I have been using for years as a baseline (from factory default):
OUTPUT_MODE: HDMI
HDMI_OUTPUT: 1080_60p
IMAGE_MODE: PICTURE
COLOR_SET: BRIGHTNESS: 24
VISUAL_SET: AUTO_SCALER: OFF
VISUAL_SET: H_SCALER: 4 or 5
ZOOM_SET: ZOOM: ON
ZOOM_SET: ZOOM_SIZE: 90
OUTPUT_COLOR: RGB
A/D_SET: A/D_LEVEL: 131
Many TVs can't handle the green correctly (OUTPUT_COLOR), so some might squawk about that. These settings will give you more or less a 5x scale at 1080p.

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister
Hey guys,
I've (finally) managed to get my US RGB NES back from the modder and plugged it into my framemeister and am getting no picture!
So, the mod is this one: http://etim.net.au/nesrgb/
I got this guy to do it: http://www.oldskoolkonsoles.com/ (who did a great job and was really quick).
So, the cable I'm using is a custom one created by: https://www.retrogamingcables.co.uk/
The problem is that he didn't have my NES and was wiring blind from this diagram: http://etim.net.au/nesrgb/scart_cable_diagram.png
I am getting sound out of the framemeister. Also, I get a picture when plugged directly into my uk RGB scart input on my panny plasma tv. Now, I can't really read writing diagrams so have no idea what is wrong here. I'm guessing its the usual c-sync problem. Anyone got any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

I take it back. Adjusting the manual sync gave me a picture. (And MY GOD, what a picture).

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister
Actually, no, I don't take it back.
I can manually sync the connection, but when I pipe the NES through my scart switcher, the manual sync fails and I get a blank picture again.
I'm assuming that my cable doesn't have the c-sync properly wired in?

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister
I use the cable that is for sale on Tim's site. Works perfect with the FM.
If you plan on switching your cable then go for this one.

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister
How good is the Framemeister at odd refresh rates on older Arcade PCB's like Donkey Kong , Mr.Do , Pengo......
Thanks ,
Thanks ,
Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister
according to MAWS Donkey Kong runs at 60.60Hz which is quite ok. Shouldn't case any problems. MVS at 59.15Hz is further from the standard NTSC specs. Worst thing to happen is that you don't get a sync lock, meaning that the FM will readjust the framerate on the fly.
Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister
Will that mean it will add slight input lag since it will be readjusting the framerate on the fly ?Fudoh wrote:according to MAWS Donkey Kong runs at 60.60Hz which is quite ok. Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister
not really. It means that you get a little hiccup here and there as a frame is left out or is inserted to resync to the input.
Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister
Cool , I'm probably gonna get one . Running an old school arcade game like Donkey Kong through HDMI onto an LCD tv is gonna be a crazy experience .
Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister
Been tinkering around with my Framemeister, and changed the OUTPUT_COLOR: from AUTO to RGB which gave me way brighter colours (and also looked much nicer). So I just wondered, what did I actually do when I changed this?
Also, what does the A/D_LEVEL setting do?

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister
While brighter, the primary colors are less balanced. Greens will be considerably more vivid compared to reds and blues, and even to the point of being offputting on games like Mario 64 or Super Mario World. I believe it was Fudoh that said using RGB output mode adds another conversion step the Framemeister doesn't exactly do very well, so I stick with AUTO (which sets it to YPbPr output).morfeo wrote:Been tinkering around with my Framemeister, and changed the OUTPUT_COLOR: from AUTO to RGB which gave me way brighter colours (and also looked much nicer). A/D level increases/decreases brightness of the analog-to-digital conversion, but you run the risk of crushing the top-end colors if you set it too high. Artemio's 240p Test suits have excellent color ramps to use for this, and you'll want to calibrate A/D for each console using those color ramp test patterns. For example on Artemio's SNES color ramp, you'd adjust A/D until the top two green shades are just distinguishable. The Genesis is far more forgiving since it has less colors to work with, so you can get that one pretty bright without crushing.

Thanks for your answer FDX - and more generally for your profiles and all the work you do to help the Framemeister-community!
