It would be a lot more effective if I actually were keeping up and I didn't find out about the car crashing into the pizzeria because I walked into the area and saw it all boarded up and cops walking in and out of it and wondered what the hell happened (as opposed to finding out on the news).Shepardus wrote:Just don't keep up with the news and you'll feel a lot safer.
The pizzeria is so close to my house that I would've applied for a job there had the accident not happened.

Hey, so any progress with the Everdrive? I sure wish I could go back in time and give 6-year old me an Everdrive. Maybe then my first sidescroller would have been Rolling Thunder instead of Zool: Ninja of the Nth Dimension.

I'm more concerned with staying alive than video games right now.
I have a huge backlog of PS3 games, anyway.

So quit worrying about freak accidents and get more exercise. Heart disease kills more people than any of that other stuff.atheistgod1999 wrote:I'm more concerned with staying alive than video games right now.![]()

Stop watching those stupid Final Destination movies if they're going to make you paranoid. Clear your head by watching a movie from an older, gentler time of film making. Like The Omen, for instance!
Two working class dudes, one black one white, just baked a tray of ten cookies together.
An oligarch walks in and grabs nine cookies for himself.
Then he says to the white dude "Watch out for that black dude, he wants a piece of your cookie!"

I last watched them in fucking November. The movies themselves didn't make me paranoid, but these weird-ass freak accidents did.Mischief Maker wrote:Stop watching those stupid Final Destination movies if they're going to make you paranoid. How the fuck, without a real-life Death or explosion, did a manhole cover get airborne!?
I don't even know if the woman's head stayed intact or was obliterated.Crews clearing the crash appeared visibly upset, said Cathi Porreca-Leonard, who passed the accident scene Friday morning.
“They were consoling each other,” she said. “It could have been anybody.”

Is the real cause of Shakespeare's death a freak accident? Did a frightened horse launch a pole that went straight through his heart (ironic considering that he wrote what many people consider to be the best tragedies of all time)?

Maybe worry less about manhole covers and more about what kind of pizza topping you would be.

Whenever I see a screencap that's a JPEG. Did they seriously not have enough hard drive space to save it as a PNG or something?

(emphasis mine)Regardless of the state of the law, though, Genicap could still cause headaches for Hello Games simply by trying to bring a case to court. The timing is certainly suspect; Murray talked to the New Yorker about his use of the superformula more than a year ago, yet stories about the patents are only leaking to the press now that the game has been finalized and is mere weeks from its planned August 9 launch date. While Genicap isn't publicly asking the game be pulled from release or demanding a share of the profits, the company must realize it currently has a lot of leverage in even asking for discussions.
"The funny thing, even if it's a bad patent or a bad claim, the cost of defending the potential suit could be a deterrent to releasing the game," Methenitis warns. "Defense costs to the Markman hearing can still get up to a million dollars (but average at least a couple hundred thousand), and going through an entire trial is usually multiple millions ($2-$5 million is a pretty typical range). Certainly not a small amount."

Watched the whole original series though

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
I remember back in the day when Jim Lee was working for Marvel, there were some PWJ comics with covers done by him (he *used to* do the whole thing!) which were sweet, and then the inside work was done by what appeared to be a retarded monkey with a crayon and a migraine. It wasn't long after that I basically gave up on comics.BrianC wrote:Comics with awesome covers and so-so art (Buffy season 8, I'm looking at you).

I'm more into graphic novels now. It has been a few years since I touched a mensal series.boagman wrote:I remember back in the day when Jim Lee was working for Marvel, there were some PWJ comics with covers done by him (he *used to* do the whole thing!) which were sweet, and then the inside work was done by what appeared to be a retarded monkey with a crayon and a migraine. Nikopol by Enki Bilal, or the great So Beautiful and So Dangerous are my usual recomendations

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
I read both, but go for comics collected in graphic novels rather than standard comics. I'm also more into older comics than recent ones (especially when it comes to Fantastic Four).
Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
Some people are secretly blind, or at least not very observant. Where I work, someone took some low-res, artifact-laden JPEGs and literally made them into posters and hung them on the wall. And the TV in the break room has been showing the incorrect aspect ratio for several years.Whenever I see a screencap that's a JPEG. Did they seriously not have enough hard drive space to save it as a PNG or something?
Also annoying: video players without Vsync

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
Screenshots usually compress much better in JPEG, and over a relatively normal connection in the States, the picture could take from 3-15 seconds to download if it's a 3MB PNG. I can understand it for bandwidth+speed reasons [the bandwidth a 3MB file takes up when downloaded by a bunch of people adds up surprisingly quickly, and I already went over speed].
But for most internet purposes these days, there's no reason to use a JPEG quality level lower than 95, maybe 90 [which would likely result in something closer to a 300-500kB JPG, which'll take like less than 3 seconds on most modern connections].
[all these numbers assume a 1280x720 picture, and they're all off the cuff anyway]
People who save things that have large swaths of actually flat color as JPG are fucking idiots though.
Not only is the file like 3x the size it could be, it mangles the colors near color boundaries completely for no real reason.
It's not like many of them don't notice, but they don't care.

I gave up on this crusade several years ago -- most random people just want the picture to fill the screen, to hell if it's stretched.ED-057 wrote:And the TV in the break room has been showing the incorrect aspect ratio for several years.

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
Amazon's recommendations are insane and don't seem to make any sense, and it seems to massively prioritize certain searches over the kind of shit I've actually bought and might want more of.
I've been recommended women's clothing, books about Peppa Pig, and the bit that blew my mind, a fucking Len Kagamine daki cover.
at least the last one might be "reasonable" if searching for Nendos and buying the Project Diva games counts [for a very limited definition of "reasonable"]
and when they aren't wildly off the mark against what I've bought/actually really looked for, they're for shit I don't and wouldn't want

The mindset of collectors is a strange one. I read some while ago that some guy would sell all kinds of rare retro games at incredibly low prices, to the intense dismay of collectors as it would devalue their games greatly. At least that's how I think it went.atheistgod1999 wrote:Older video game prices being perma-jacked-up and only getting HIGHER!!!

Also: I know I shouldn't rant about that kid, but I wonder if people like him are contributing to this. I bet there are a ton of people who thought "retro gaming" was a good idea and bought a bunch of consoles and games and didn't ever play them. The whole "nerdy is cool" trend has probably increased demand.

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
I was looking on Craigslist to see if there were any NES game listings at reasonable prices (already checked eBay), and found this:

By the way: One time I went to that store to get a model 2 Genesis (AKA Megadrive), and after being assured that they tested it beforehand when I asked to test it out at the store, I went home to find that the power supply was broken. After going back, they tested it out, replaced it with a shitty third-party power supply, and gave it back to me. They didn't even apologize, let alone give me something for free to make up for it.

When your waiting for something to come out and it gets delayed with a new release date, wait until the new release date and it gets delayed again.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
I got a filling in my top left molar (like a 1mm cavity or something) a couple years ago and didn't really think much of it at the time. Just a few minutes ago, however, I looked in the mirror and saw this huge piece of metal on one of my teeth. Now I feel worse. Part of my body is permanently damaged
Also, I had like 3 teeth removed when I was younger. That's also permanent damage.
