Pokemon Go
Re: Pokemon Go
My brother and a bunch of his friends went out at night to catch pokemen.
I can understand why Iwata was reluctant to enter the mobile market, it's like opening Pandora's Box, and there's no way Nintendo will be focusing on just games anymore.

Looks like the whole purpose of the game has been defeated.

The market catches on to new lucrative opportunities disturbingly quickly.

I'd never thought I'd find myself in support of an age restriction on forum registration.

I drove downtown and had a walk by the community college there, and there seemed to be some young fellows pointing there cellphones in random directions. I don't know if it was Pokemans related but it did make me think.
How long is it going to be to the post-augmented reality?

Re: Pokemon Go
The developer has obviously placed them but they haven't checked very thoroughly where they're placing them. There was a guy who owns a historical house which used to be a church for example, but it's just his normal house and they put a gym there so he has all kinds of people hanging around now.Lord Satori wrote:Gyms aren't just randomly placed, you know. They're placed at public places where many people are likely to be. Monuments, public parks, plazas, that sort of thing. From what I've heard, you can't just have anyone place a gym anywhere.ardiel wrote:I don't know about you guys but I would not be pleased if somebody put a gym on my property without my permission which caused random strangers to lurk around me at all hours.
It's also causing problems in public parks. Yes the people playing are dumb for going there after closing time, but the parks never asked for it and the police and park authority still has to deal with something that has been basically forced on them.
Edit:
Also placing virtual items on real property such that it has a real world influence on that property is ethically questionable since it is almost the same effect as physically placing things on that property.

Everyone might as well be living in one. Re: Pokemon Go
It's kind of surprising how poorly they thought this out. 7/13, the day the fight began over the ownership of augmented spaces in real ones. Of course, at this stage one can really boil this down to the appearance of inappropriate real-world behavior.
Re: Pokemon Go
Makes you wonder how long we have until they'll come up with laws to regulate placement of virtual items on physical property (land)

Re: Pokemon Go
I'm sure they will. This is the effective equivalent of somebody physically standing there and literally handing out pokemon and I'm sure a lot of places wouldn't actually allow that if it were physical.ryu wrote:Makes you wonder how long we have until they'll come up with laws to regulate placement of virtual items on physical property (land)

It's not like you can just go into a park and build a shop there just because you feel like it.

I feel like what Pokemon Go has turned into after such a short time makes it perfectly evident how we, as a society, have to inject controversy into everything nowadays.

Donald Trump’s presidential campaign quickly shot back at Hillary Clinton for a heinous Pokémon Go-themed pun, releasing a parody video portraying the Democratic candidate as a Pokémon herself.
“I don’t know who created Pokemon Go, but I’m trying to figure out how we get them to do Pokemon Go To The Polls!” said Clinton, before being mocked on Twitter for the awkward pander.
The joke is not helped by seeing the video. pic.twitter.com/W8n8EMh1gf

“Crooked Hillary NO!” wrote Trump on Facebook, captioning a video of Clinton as an imagined Pokémon named “Crooked Hillary.”
Clinton’s Pokémon “type” is listed as “Career Politician,” and she has her own special stat of “Emails Deleted” which is currently at 30,000.
“Often found lying to the American people, rigging the system, and sharing TOP SECRET emails,” her description reads. Her “Next Evolution” is listed as “unemployed.”
The video on Facebook has received over 35,000 likes in less than an hour, as well as nearly 28,000 shares and over 600,000 views.

"You were saying" is typically a statement that is used when trying to counter a statement, not reinforce it.
Though maybe I'd change it to "controversy and politics".

Good thing you've never given Google, Facebook, Twitter, etc. any of your info either, or used any of their services at all. Oh wait.atheistgod1999 wrote:They don't have my info because I'm not playing it.
Re: Pokemon Go
Wait, that's the best reason not to play Pokemon Go? I find that to be a pretty poor excuse, considering everything needs basic email info.
I think you're really missing out on the fun; haven't played any pokemon games since x/y and its pretty fun
