Always delightful to see that people are playing all sorts of Konami games, that's how it should be! Also congratulations, Vludi, bullet hells are scary.

Thanks Perikles and congrats for all those community records, you keep smashing all the old-school shooters as usual :P

Just got a 1cc of Batrider Advanced course, this took a lot less than i thought, but that's probably because i have a bunch of experience with Normal and Special course already and because rank trick is cheating. Overall a pretty cool game with a more forgiving rank than Garegga (the bombs are godsend too).

No Miss 1-ALL on Gradius III SNES.

Alright, three Gradius games in five days. It's time to stop. :P

Kinda embarrassing with the amount of time I've put into this (214 hours according to steam) but I finally got the Mushihimesama Maniac 1cc.

Image

Sadly, the replay file is broken and the achievement "Maniac Master" didn't trigger. (Steam version, obv.)

Wow congrats dude! I still haven't cleared Mushi series at any modes.

Btw, I got a 1-ALL clear of Salamander PCE on Expert, probably my first shmup clear with hardest setting. Now I know why the Salamander high score thread doesn't include the PCE version, because the game has a ridiculous extend and can do a "score milking" via checkpoint due of possible recovery at any spot.

(Astebreed)
I have returned. 5 months have passed without playing the game and I managed to surpass my old PB by a million. World record is really close (2.6M). And yet, there were some mistakes that cost me a bit, mainly in stages 2, 4 and 6.

I have a replay for this one, but I'm having trouble with rendering the video due to frame drops (original video has none, but it was recorded in 30FPS because of the remaining HD space. The original recording alone has 77.1 GB!)

EDIT: Now with a replay!

Nope. I'm not dead.

Finally settled into Tokyo life and finding some time to shmup. Just cleared X course in Darius Gaiden and killed the Hysteric Empress. Felt good 8)

(Also my local arcade has a legit Gaiden cab. My life is complete)

First shmup 1cc ever! Promised myself I'd learn my way through a Cave game this summer.

Stage - ALL [Reco] / Mushihimesama Futari 1.5 Black Label [Maniac] / 393.708.625 pts

Played on a tate'd 18" CRT, hooked up to the 360 via VGA. I purchased a Reco theme'd Madcatz TES Seimitsu stick (Sanwa buttons) from the For Sale board here; thanks again, Drachenherz!

Anyway, I'm pretty proud of this! I have abstained from watching a single second of video footage of Futari; I played the original Mushihimesama casually many years ago and wanted to save myself for when I could experience Futari first-hand, a position reinforced by the accounts of players that praised the game's caliber!

I started off on Futari 1.5's Maniac. While I could make it to the last boss, I never had the stock of lives * bombs I knew I needed to clear it - nerves eating me alive, causing constant misreads in stage 4 and complete throws in stage 5. I shifted to Black Label when I was stalling out a bit on development and I needed a change of pace to take the heat off; I was at the point where I could really have used some footage of players navigating certain parts of Stage 4 and Queen Larsa, but I didn't want to compromise my goal of not using any outside guidance.

I played a bit of Black Label and decided to give it a go since my first runs without practicing revamped stages & boss patterns were pretty promising. The player ship is way strong in this mode, leading to more consistent navigation of tricky patterns: bullet-clearing enemies don't take nearly as long to survive, so I only have to wade through tricky patterns for so long before a canceller dies or a boss changes phase. This is offset by the overall increase of difficulty in most patterns, but... speaking strictly in terms of survival, Black Label is easier to muscle through. Optimizing score in that version would be a totally different story.

I still plan to get through Futari 1.5's Maniac, though. I am way more practiced in it than Black Label, it's just that Larsa is the devil in her third phase. And stage 4. And the second half of Stage 5.

Pretty pumped to keep on keepin' on in this genre... always had a latent interest in it, finally gettin' around to exploring it! Until next time!

Congrats blackrabite!

Got a Donpachi JP 1-All (2-2) with the A ship, not a difficulty first loop except for stage 4 which is kind of a mess. Pretty fun game either way.

Finally, I got a 1-ALL (2-1) of Fixeight( Japan) w/ C.Horn! I got interested in clearing it after playing through the European version, and it did end up being pretty difficult, mostly due to a few tricky areas and the last stage. The second loop already looks pretty evil, but I think I'll keep working on it in the meantime.

Three, three hundred 1CCs, ah, ah, ah.

Always happy to indulge in some arbitrary numeral mysticism. Also got a lot of "quality clears" since last time, several Irem/Konami/Toaplan 2-ALLs, tough 1-ALLs such as Tatsujin Ou, Raiden II and Zing Zing Zip, some decent scores etc. I'm almost considering to throw a modern game into the mix, I have no idea which one, though. Voting for the next top 25 is going to be impossible...

Wow P. Damn impressive.

How many left till you've cleared them all?
You're sure to be in a fine haze about now, but don't think too hard about all of this. Just go out and kill a few beasts. It's for your own good. You know, it's just what hunters do! You'll get used to it.

Thanks for the kind words, guys! :D There are still several games left, I actually have a nifty list here that catalogues (subjectively) interesting games, suffice it to say it's still a long one.

You forgot the Detana!! TwinBee 2-ALL WR! Fortunately neither of those is a contestant for my list of favourite shmups.

And believe it or not, I found a game that is easily as insane as a Parodius Da! or Detana!! TwinBee 2-ALL, so that's one game I'm never going to clear already.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the TLB in that game trivial since Cave forgot to remove the invincibility flag during the fight? Or is that another game I'm thinking of?

Yes, but you have to no-miss to get it.

You can also unset the flag by bombing, or just play the US version. But like most no-miss TLBs, if you can get to it there's really little chance of you not beating it.

I managed to 1cc Alltynex Second's hard mode, with suicide bullets turned off. This was not an easy task, not only because of the mode's difficulty, but also because the game crashed the first time I got to the final boss without taking a hit beforehand. If the game hadn't crashed at that critical moment, I surely would have won since I had so many lives. Instead, I had to spend 2 extra hours replaying the game over and over so I could recreate my near-perfect run.

I personally recommend Cho Ren Sha 68k, though the game might very well fall into the "classic" category, despite its small hitbox. A personal favorite, none the less.

Otherwise, you can't go wrong with DDP and DDP DOJ.

Guwange is the closest a Cave game gets to IREM's satisfying and distinctive mechanical gimmicks and piercing atmosphere IMO, also highly recommended.

1-ALL'd the NES version of Gradius on 1 life without the Konami code.

I don't have any more shmups atm and wasn't even fast enough to record the ending :(

Still have proof that I did it, though:
