Is it the same version as mine with the separate rom board?

As for dumping the PAL, since it's protected you'll need an abi boardmaster 4000 or home made PAL dumper / cracker.

The guy who wrote the paldump code for the abi boardmaster (Macro) just so happens to have Super Cup Finals so hopefully he will dump it or trade me the board, thanks for all the help guys. :D

Don't worry, 'rtw' has all the hardware and knowledge to dump a secured PAL :) You are speaking with two long term MAME contributors :)

I hope the missing PAL is the only issue on the board. :)

rtw: If you could still copy your PAL some time that would be great, unfortunately it looks like Macro's PAL is bad as all the outputs are stuck high.

Today 'rtw' sent me dump of the D68-07 @IC62 and sadly it's bad too, all outputs are fixed high and inputs are not used.Anyway he will try to redump it.Can you ask Macro how did he dump it (I guess with his boardmaster 4000) and the type of PAL (maybe it's not combinatorial but registered one), please? Thanks.

Seems unlikely that both PALS are bad, maybe it's just a dummy chip? The only issue my board has is the credit buttons don't register and the settings don't save in the config / test menu which I guess could be unrelated to the missing PAL. :?

Chip could have some unusual configuration (latches) although it's a combnatorial one like PAL16L8.This is why I ask to know the exact part.

Not working credit can depend from faulty resistor array but from what I remember there is also an ASIC involved in I/O.

'rtw' kindly redumped the D68-07 PAL @IC62 with an EPROM programmer and result is the same, all outputs are fixed high. Now if someone with a working board could check with a logic probe if outputs are really fixed high (and inputs unused).

All outputs (12-19) are high, inputs seem to be 'pulsing'.

caius asked me to remove the D68-07 and check how the PCB behaved, it booted up and all inputs, sound, graphics worked

Very strange, so it is just a dummy chip by the looks of it. Any chance you could confirm if going into the test menu and changing settings like volume saves when this chip is removed? If I change the volume and save it reboots and the volume setting I just set doesn't save (it's very loud).

Finally got to the bottom of this, Macro was nice enough to send me the PAL I was missing. As it turns out putting anything in that socket stops the game from booting, including the PAL that *should?* be in there.

After a lot of googling I managed to find a couple of low res pcb pictures, and it looks like there was a version of this game that left that socket empty as I found two different pictures with that socket empty. Most of the pictures I found had it populated though. Also the issues I was having was caused by the large custom in the corner of the board, after reflowing the pins I am now able to credit the game and the sound settings save.

Thanks again to everyone that helped.

Edit: Final update (hopefully), was playing the game today and noticed some sound issues so I replaced all the caps in the sound section and sure enough a few had started to leak. Now the missing PAL in the socket doesn't stop the game from running. :? It's obviously not needed but I'll leave it in there since I have it.
