Bottom Line: Ibara or Under Defeat?

Post by 0ktober »

Money is a little tight for the next month or so, so I can really only afford one of these two, especially if I need to pick up a refurb DC to play UD.

If you had to only have one for the next month, which would you pick?

Oh, and I'm not entirely new. I'm the same Oktober from last year.

I'm in the same boat. And I picked Ibara.

If you liked Zero Gunner 2 then by all means get Under Defeat. I like Cave shmups and it's a no-brainer for me. I have a large number of PS2 shmups and almost always end up playing Cave.

I'm definitely leaning in that direction. I loved Zero Gunner 2, don't get me wrong, but I loved Garegga even more.

if youre not dying for either one (it doesnt seem like you are anyways) id pick under defeat.

Ibara will be around fora long time to come, its not gonna become rare/expensive anytime soon, rather the opposite.

under defeat may be a limited release and it may sell out and shoot up in price like border down did..

i think both seem like really fantastic games! (tho obviously im more stoked regarding Ibara being sucha a r8zing nut)

Under Defeat. Chances are its going to cost a lot more down the road than Ibara.

And personally IMO, G.Rev >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Cave

That's a bold statement to make. I <3 Border Down, but I've never had the pleasure of playing Senko No Ronde, so weighing one game against Cave's entire catalog is hardly fair.

I'm not able to order more than one game for the moment myself...seeing as Under Defeat is supposed to have a bit more of an "old school" vibe to it, and I tend to prefer "modern style" shooters, I went with Ibara, with Rajirugi as my second choice. Of course, others prefer old-style stuff, so they might be more in the running for UD...and what's been said about it likely ending up more expensive is likely true too.

In any event, I haven't played either yet, so however you look at it it's still a matter of crossing my fingers and hoping the one I picked is the one I'd like best, heh heh.

I adored ZG2. More my pace than any Cave game. But I do love Cave games.

It basicaly came down to the point that Sven brought up. I think the DC releases will be harder to come by and hold value better. Someone will get rid of an Ibara down the line and I'll pick it up second hand at some point.

Same opinion here, the price of Under Defeat WILL rise.

While Taito would very likely release a BEST version of Ibara later, you could pick it up cheap later.

Under Defeat's soundtrack is better than Ibara's.

Same composer, too.

i had this problem earlier this month and plumped for UD for all the above reasons and it was a few quid cheaper, altho i do love Garegga so i'll be finding a granny to rob so i can get Ibara sooner rather than later.

I'm going for UD for the same reasons as everyone has already mentioned. Ibara will turn up on eBay in a while going for pennies, UD on the other hand...

Also, isn't it more expedient to support the DC these days? That way there are more platforms for shmups for everybody and may help in diversity, IE/ UD is very different to Ibara but we have the choice of both styles. :)

I love Cave, but I hate Raizing, so I don't think Ibara will satisfy my itch. Also, I don't know why people keep comparing UD with Zero Gunner 2. I don't think they're even remotely similar in play style. UD has an almost Seibu-like quality to its gameplay, and I dig that vibe.

So yeah, UD for me.

Well, it might not really being sold for pennies, but as I said before Taito would very likely release a BEST version of it later.

The BEST version of would cost $20 new and $12 used. The BEST version of MushiHimeSama is coming.

And without a doubt the ISOs of UD and Ibara will show up on bittorrent within days of release.

I need to save my money for UD.

UD doesn't ship until the end of march, right?

I'm going to take my chances and get Ibara next week, then UD as my "april" game.

I cancelled my Ibara preorder and got Homura instead. Totally worth it. If I had to choose between the 2, I'd go with Under Defeat. Unless you're a rank n' suicide guy, of course. I've got a Bakraid PCB and that's all the suiciding I need.
Feedback will set you free.
