Dodonpachi campaign edition PCB
So regarding this legendary PCB:
What actually happened to it? Was it lost or destroyed or what?

They're still owned by the winners of the competition, nothing's happened.

I'm surprised none of them were sold on. Surely they would be a worth a great deal of money.trap15 wrote:They're still owned by the winners of the competition, nothing's happened.

Re: Dodonpachi campaign edition PCB
Some of them have been sold on, but rare stuff like that is much more likely to end up with the discrete kind of private collector.
Re: Dodonpachi campaign edition PCB
I know one of them was on location at Daytona III at one point, but who knows if it's still there. I think their website is probably like 10 years out of date at this point, but it's present in some of their pictures. Probably WTN's, since Daytona III used to be the hangout for SOF.

The owners are all being held captive in Shou's basement until at least one is willing to sell.

Xyga wins post of the year award 2016.
Xyga, could you please share with us your position in this? How does it feel to be so skilled and snap-witted?

Re: Dodonpachi campaign edition PCB
Years ago I offered Cave a great deal of money for one. No dice. I can't imagine they've lost the code, but nobody's parted with it. A darn shame something that cool is being locked away

Shame you aren't a DDP campaign board. People would pay a lot of money for you.Xyga wrote:It's simple: I'm board.

I think he knows where it is but hasn't been able to get the owner to sell it to him or otherwise get access to it for dumping.

Shou's patreon triggers when he releases something, not on a monthly basis. I've been signed up for months and don't think I've paid anything yet.

Re: Dodonpachi campaign edition PCB
Been busy so I haven't done anything with the Patreon site yet nor used any of the pledges.
DDP Campaign is a totally different PCB and I haven't got around to arranging the dump yet. I mean Strike Gunner Special Version is more important, right? RIGHT?!

the good news is that I read it seems to run on the same board as Oni Death so we could eventually conve... oh, wait. No we can't.Shou wrote:DDP Campaign is a totally different PCB and I haven't got around to arranging the dump yet.

From a historical perspective any prototype/unique game is interesting... but, you know. DDP Campaign Edition.
My sales thread : 2020/07/20..MASTER.VER.
Re: Dodonpachi campaign edition PCB
STG Special is more interesting to me tbh. I'd like to see a version of that game that isn't a total turd, and if they bothered to do an arrangement of it, surely it's less craptastic.

DDP is well documented in videos and stuff. Strike Gunner Special might as well not exist at the moment so its preservation needs are greater.Shou wrote:I mean Strike Gunner Special Version is more important, right? RIGHT?!
Re: Dodonpachi campaign edition PCB
Lol just read about the 'Konami yakuza'. Guys we just don't suspect how much risks Shou and the other fellows involved take for that sacred mission.

I think we can wait a little longer for a game that is complete shit if it means that we can get an actual amazingly good game first.Shou wrote:I cannot guarantee the quality of the game.

Re: Dodonpachi campaign edition PCB
Thought the below mention of this title in Polygons article about the Super NT was very much thread bump worthy....
https://www.polygon.com/2018/2/5/169653 ... -making-of
"As an avid fan of shoot-’em-up games, Taber says he’s always lamented the genre’s niche status in the West, with legendary developers like Cave — perhaps best known for its DonPachi series — going mostly unrecognized by the gaming establishment. Back in the early 2010s, Taber wanted to help rectify that.
“I’m a DoDonPachi fanatic,” he says. “Right around the same time I pitched Julian, I pitched Cave on releasing an unreleased version of the game, called Blue. It’s an alternate version they produced for a contest. It changed the mechanics significantly, especially the scoring. Knowing that there’s another version out there, that’s even harder, it kinda haunts me.”
Taber pitched Cave on licensing a limited run of DoDonPachi Blue arcade boards, so that enthusiasts could finally experience another version of a classic game. But, unfortunately, the components required to build the PCBs were no longer in production, and Cave didn’t have any left lying around. As far as Taber knows, there are a few boards left in existence — probably in the hands of contest participants — but he’s still never had a chance to sink a quarter into that particular cab."
