Ah, the Rezon soundtrack. I had the pleasure of listening to it a while back but forgot the game's name since. Now I can once again listen to its glorious 5-second loops!

Thanks guys!
Now i 1-all'd the rather obscure Explosive Breaker, a weird vertical shooter from Kaneko with some laughable digitized sprites (chopters, frigates, hovercrafts and George Lucas... IN SPACE), also some of the ships/weapons are copy-pasted from Raiden. I recommend it, it's short, fast-paced and moderately difficult.

Cleared Battle Traverse on veryhard. Should have done this ages ago but burned myself out on it last year. Now to get a proper score and move on to extreme & hard 2-all.
Maybe the hardest 1cc I've done so far? not sure really. StellaVanity is definitely a tougher though and I'm still learning it on the side.
Congrats on all those clears Vludi, that's some crazy fast progress. Same to Perikles as usual. Allumer, oh boy..
good stuff jaimers

Damn Jaimers. Nice one!
Zaarock, I'd love to see someone take on Extreme. I haven't seen any replays of that even on Nico.

extreme is kinda shit, easier than hard 2nd loop and way too much slowdown

BRAVO Jaimers! I love watching runs that are down in the wire like that. Great commentary too, especially that bit about considering restarting, but deciding to persevere. Thanks for the upload

After what felt like ages I have finally 2-ALLed of the Japanese version Donpachi

The reason why I've specified it's the Japanese version is because the Japanese version of Donpachi is vastly harder than the US version do to faster bullet speed and the fact that the game does not refill your bomb stock completely at the end of each stage.
I started working on this clear in November of 2015 but things only really took off in February as I didn't have much time to play before then. I took a month long break from 2-ALL attempts in May and 5 attempts after I got back into the game I got the 2-ALL. This clear took me 141 hours (154 hours if you count the time I took to 1CC Donpachi back in spring of 2015), and 124 attempts to pull off. This is a lot of time for me considering my previous longest clear was DOJ WL which took me 50 hours to clear.
The run itself is at best ok. My first death was an amazingly stupid death on stage 4, my second is death is a dumb death on stage 2-4, and the last two I'm fine with. The run ended with me bomb spamming Taisabachi/Hachi and I ended the run with no bombs or lives remaining. While I'm very happy with the clear I can't help but be disappointed because of my lousy score and poor survival play. I guess I can't be too disappointed because this was much harder than my previously hardest clear: Raiden.
With all that said I'm not done with this game. In fact, I don't think I'm even half way done with this game :^). Next up I'm going to be trying to get a 25 mil type B run.

Great work, you earned that one.

You're sure to be in a fine haze about now, but don't think too hard about all of this. Just go out and kill a few beasts. It's for your own good. You know, it's just what hunters do! You'll get used to it.

Congratulations on the 2-ALL. I feel 150 hours is a pretty good time for a game of this length.
It's your first 2-ALL too, isn't it?
Did you record a replay of the run? I would love to see it.

I consider this my first 2-ALL. Technically the US version of Donpachi was my first 2-ALL but I don't count that as a 2-ALL. I do have a replay for it and I'll try to get it out as soon as possible. I'm going to the airport to fly to Japan in about an hour, so it might be a while before the replay is uploaded. I'll make the video annotated just like some of my other vids.endoKarb wrote:Congratulations on the 2-ALL. I feel 150 hours is a pretty good time for a game of this length.

And of course in Japan I'm going to HEY.

Indeed, that's a superb achievement, The Armchair General! Can't wait for the video.
Also congratulations to Vludi for clearing the first Raiden, you said you were working on it for a while as well, great to see your diligent work paying off!
I was rather productive regarding frantic verticals myself, cleared Mad Shark, Thunder Dragon 2 and Raiden II. It was very interesting to play the former two since both games feature straight main shots (well, the second player in Thunder Dragon 2, anyway) instead of the usual vulcan, altering the general feel of the games quite drastically. Both games also fall moreso in the "resource 'em up" rubric, Thunder Dragon 2 in general, Mad Shark during a few boss fights which are extremely difficult/nigh impossible otherwise. I had a ton of fun with both (the Thunder Dragon 2 clear also came down right to the wire) and I absolutely want to revisit Mad Shark at some point in time, I think it's a great game. Also glad that I managed to beat Raiden II even though I had to bomb way more often than I would've liked to, game's just too scary.
While I intend to tackle Same! Same! Same! (the mean 1P version, of course) and Tatsujin Ou in the very near future to keep the trend going I also took a peek at the arcade Bio-Ship Paladin/Uchuu Senkan Gomora since it's the polar opposite of those. I do like the novel concept and the game is kinda neat (albeit certainly not great) if you can adapt to it, the final stage is simply ludicrous, however. I know it's not the best demonstration as I have to meticulously study it yet, but the increase in difficulty is just absurd. If you happen to die when both of those laser-spewing battle ships are still alive you're going to lose every single one of your lives in rapid succession. It's essentially a damage race against the ships and the final boss, there's almost no subtlety or cleverness to it, it's just praying that you can kill them before they kill you.

Tons of cool clears lately, great work. Congrats on your DP (JP) 2-all The Armchair General, i find the second loop of the US version difficult already, so i imagine the JP version is hellish. Also great stuff as always Perikles, i really like Thunder Dragon 2 and i'll try to clear it some day, Raiden II however is just too crazy for me.
Lately i cleared 3 games: Gunnail, Rabio Lepus and Raiden. Gunnail is pretty fun and i quite enjoy the music, it's also pretty forgiving as long a you play for survival. Rabio Lepus is the first game from Video System as far as i know, not all that great but a decent hori with some challenging levels near the end, it also has an "expert course" with 2x score for a better challenge. Raiden was a challenging game for me, although lately i realized that memorizing some enemy spawn helps a lot. Still i barely made it and a graphic glitch plagued half of my run.

Hey guys, it's been quite a while!
Yeah, not long ago, I actually got my 1st 1cc of DoDonPachi SaiDaiOuJou Arcade HD, and I got it with using Ship Type-C, Maria, with her Laser option, just like I always wanted! So unbelievably happy to finally get my 1st 1cc of this game! This took me a bit of time to get (1 month, more-or-less, first arcade game to take me that long to do), but it was totally worth it! I'm quite pleased with this!
Yeah, about that run, what can I say... I didn't expect I'd get my 1st 1cc in it (Lots of lol in it and stuff I shouldn't have gotten away with, but I did anyway, haha), I can say that much. Just really happy to get it, though, that's for sure!
Would you all believe me, if I were to say that I introduced myself to the DoDonPachi series through DoDonPachi SaiDaiOuJou, lol?

Massive congrats Vludi! Raiden is a very tough game. Also that graphical glitch has happened to me before. I'm excited to see Harpuia 1CC this game.

Thanks, Jonst!
Yeah, getting the 1st 1cc of DoDonPachi SaiDaiOuJou Arcade HD was a bit harder to get than getting the 1st 1cc of Mushi Futari 1.5 Maniac, if I had to say so myself, from my own experience, at any rate. It wasn't too bad, though, and DoDonPachi SaiDaiOuJou's a really fun game, no doubt about that, I had a lot of fun working on getting my 1st Arcade HD 1cc in it! The game lays it on a little thick, but it's still quite manageable, I'd say. I studied a number of replays, and also came up with some of my own survival stuff, practiced and all, and it just worked out like that!
Also, thanks, Armchair General! I've heard all about your 2-ALL of DonPachi, that's quite the accomplishment! You've come a long way, I can see! It's nice to see another new STG player who started out with the Touhou games go on to do incredible stuff, keep it up!
Yeah, seeing you get your 2-ALL of DonPachi (JP), as well Jaimers getting his Futari 1.5 Ultra 1cc, was all motivating stuff, to where it got me to go start to really get a move on to settle things with DoDonPachi SaiDaiOuJou, and yeah! Also...
I actually would prefer to be called Purple or VioletHatPurple, if I must say so myself. In every other place, I go by VioletHatPurple or Purple, it's actually only just here, that I'm still called, well, PurpleTheGuy (To tell you honestly, I'm not too fond of the name I go by here), so yeah, I thought I'd also mention that, as well.
Pleasure to meet you, Armchair General!

Thanks for the kind words but I wouldn't call a Donpachi 2-ALL "incredible". Nearly every Cave or Psikyo 2-ALL is harder than it. I also wouldn't say that Touhou is easy because a lunatic clear of UFO or SA seems pretty scary to meIt's nice to see another new STG player who started out with the Touhou games go on to do incredible stuff.

Hmm, I can't really say anything much about that, since, well, I haven't gotten to do a 2-ALL myself yet (Though I plan to do a couple myself in the near future, for sure!). I guess I can say this much: You getting your 1st 2-ALL will help you out in handling other games that have 2 loops in it, I'd say!
Well, I only mentioned that bit about Touhou because some of the best shmup players around, like Jaimers, Erppo, Sapz, Naut, Azinth, Emuser, ebarrett, .ASP, Saucykobold, Zodiac0 (Natnoi Zodiac), Shmoop_meister, and a good number of others, all started out with the Touhou games, and then they went on to do all kinds of incredible stuff, and they pretty much showed that, yeah, Touhou is Harder, and to me, as someone new who's started out playing the shmup genre through Touhou, I found what they all did to be very inspiring, and they made an impression on me that I will never forget, to where, I swore to myself, "One day, I want to be like them!" I've been influenced a lot by them in more ways than 1, you can say!
So yeah, that's why I mentioned that bit about Touhou, and why I say it's nice to see someone else who's started out with the Touhou games also do what I'd say is pretty good stuff in other games, particularly since there are those out there who, well, in a manner of speaking, like to knock people simply because they play the Touhou games and all, suffice to say, and, well, let's just leave it at that. So, to me, in-short, that's just cool to see, and it proves the naysayers wrong!
Heh, you mentioning SA and UFO, I remember busting a gut or two getting my 1st Lunatic 1cc of SA and UFO. Those 2 games, while they were fun and I liked them, they roughed me up alright, that's for sure! When I was working on those 2 games in the middle of last year, I thought to myself, "If I can get through these 2 games, then I am able do other games, and I can go to be like them someday. If I can't get through them, then I'm not capable of doing other games, and I'd have to forget that I want to be like them someday!" Whew, man, was I so happy and proud of myself, when I got my 1st Lunatic 1cc in both SA and UFO! It proved a lot to me, when I got through those 2 games on Lunatic!
Also, yeah, sorry, if I seemed a bit nit-picky on the name thing. Yeah, it's just, I don't really like the name PurpleTheGuy so much these days, and everywhere else outside of here, I'm known either as Purple or VioletHatPurple.
I look forward to what you'll do next, Armchair General! I think you and I have a lot in common, I believe, especially since we both started out in the shmup genre through Touhou!

"Only" (!) Truxton II, but my hands are still shaking. Had a really good run all the way to the end of stage 5 where I got too nervous and lost lives in embarrassing manners, yet I managed to get through. Had to fight that piece of shit final boss for two-and-a-half minutes (felt like three hours) without any speed-up or bomb, just with one dinky weapon power-up, before he finally decayed in a glorious explosion. I know I'm also capable of clearing Tatsujin Ou, that one requires just a notch more concentration and effort, though, so it might take a while. And even if I give up on it I'm immensely happy that I got this bastard. Will of course upload this run, but that'll take a while...

Good work as always Perikles. Nice clear CStarFlare
I shot for a 20 mil Type A run in Donpachi and ended up scoring much better than I expected. Happened on my first credit since my 2-ALL.

I was shooting for 20 mil but I ended up getting 25 mil do to some unexpected high chains and good survival play. The cool thing about the run is that after I died twice on the stage 5 boss I managed to no miss the second loop. The two lives I ended the game with gave me 2 mil extra points which allowed me to just barely get 25 mil.
Unfortunately, a replay of the run does not exist for a couple reasons. The run was really just supposed to be this throw away credit just for fun and to test my route. I wasn't consistent at a lot of my scoring strats and considering the fact it took me 100+ attempts to just 2-ALL the game I thought it would take me at least over 1 attempt to do an even harder clear. Because of all these reasons I was certain I wouldn't PB on this run and thus didn't feel a reason to record the run when it started.

What is the total number of bombs you tend to use in the second loop (well excluding 2-5)?
