Immediate response is the major strength of the CRT, but persistence is actually a weakness in most CRT models, especially as far as TV tubes are concerned. That typically only happens if the bias is set too low and the tube is turning off with a black signal.

That's something I hope to look at again sometime. For a practical test I had in mind the falling cherry blossoms on the (shop?) screen in the original Otogi for Xbox, though there may be some other example elsewhere.

Of course what the technology is capable of, compared to what people experience, can still be mismatched on current televisions.
