Well, I don't think the majority of Play-Asia's customers are from Hong Kong, either. :)

To explain it a bit better: PAL markets often get games later at jacked-up prices with a half-assed PAL conversion (though that's starting to change). Some games don't even release at all in Europe, but they do in the US. Importing is a popular and comparitively inexpensive way to obtain good-quality software ahead of its EU release date. (How inexpensive? Well, it's not cheap per se, but my Aussie pal tells me that imports there are actually less than local PAL releases...)

It would seem the market for shooters is actually larger in Europe than America. Look at the ps2 shmup release list over there compared to here. They even got some worth playing.

And if you can afford a Neo cab + monitor, you can afford a $60 game. Won't even look as good in there as it would in a highres monitor anyways. If you're going to buy/download a game for the graphics, do it right at least ;)

I blame my lack of shmup funds on the reluctance of any forum members to purchase my neocandy 29 for 350.00 a very reasonable price!

Play-Asia said they had shipped my pre-order, but I don't think it would arrive soon. Since I think Play-Asia only shipped once every week on Friday.

Let's see if my theory correct.

If you mean a basic run through of like the first stage, I certainly can. Just don't expect me to have figured out the scoring system. Wink

I appreciate it.

Great! I ordered from them too, so I should have it by the end of the week (shipping to Hawaii tends to take an extra day or two).

Yep! Mine should be on my desk in a few hours... but I won't be able to play until I get home later tonight. Looking forward to seeing the first impressions posted here (and I'll add my initial first-blush comments after I've had a bit of time to play it).

So what kind of video-capture equipment do you use? Can you also take screenshots? Links would be appreciated...

I initially record gameplay to videotape at the fastest speed setting (meaning the shortest length so the quality is best). I have another VCR hooked up to my computer through a capture card (the ATI Wonder Pro... or something like that... cost me US $50). I do the primary video capture in Virtual Dub at umcompressed settings. I take the uncompressed avi and then slap it into Adobe Premier where I do all necessary editing. I then do a base compression using the Huffy UV codec. I then take that slightly compressed file and put it back into Virtual Dub where I do the final compression using DivX 5.1 at 75% and MP3 at 22kHz.

I can take screen shots at any point during the capturing process (I normally do it when in Premier) and they'll be 320x240 by default (since I normally capture at the resolution).

Using a videotape eliminates a lot of technical problems that I can run into if I capture directly to the computer (and honestly, after all the compression, the difference in video quality is negligable).

Thanks for the info Kiken, your setup sounds interesting.

I also played the game in a shop today for a bit. They had it set to yoko, but I switched it and just played with my head tilted. It's easy to like the look of it, isn't it? Regardless of whether it's good or not, I hope someone makes more cell-shaded shooters. Maybe with brighter, primary colors, even. Or pastel. think that would rock.

Messe Sanno actually had Radilgy and Under Defeat on 2 of their 4 demo stands outside their shop. No doubt the last place on Earth two DC games will be on demonstration at the same time. I got a pic, of course.

EDIT: Messe Sanno also has a telephone card available if you buy it from them.

I'm still at work (it's only 2:40 pm EST). I've been tracking the shipment through UPS and it's already out for delivery, which means at the latest it'll get delivered around 6 pm EST. By the time I really get to play it and perhaps post video, it'll no doubt be midnight or later for anyone on GMT.

After the latest posts, it is official:

There's a nice update on the Milestone column area where they've posted a pic and some paragraphs about their recent meeting with Max (the head organiser of Dreamcast-Scene.com).

Mine didn't turn up from NCSX today. I tracked it, and it should arrive absolutely no later than tomorrow evening. I can't wait! No way on God's green earth I'm working late this Friday...

I got my copy this afternoon. NCSX orders always arrive the next day for me because I live right across the bridge to NYC. :D

anyway, this game reminds me somewhat of Mars Matrix. but cutesy and not as fast-paced.

the cell-shaded graphics look pretty nice. very colorful and cartoony in presentation. soundtrack is upbeat and catchy.

minor complaints are the TATE option is only for counter-clockwise rotation and you can't turn off the messages at the start of each stage.

I'm still trying to get the hang of the gameplay, but Icarus' earlier post on it is accurate.

there are 3 shot types (lock-on lasers, bullets, and bubbles), 3 different ship speeds, and you also have a close range sword attack.

you use the "ABS" barrier to convert bullets into energy for your multiplier bar.
the barrier is filled by destroying enemies and canceling certain bullets with the sword.
there are also power-ups that refill the barrier, and you can hit them with your sword (but I'm not sure of the effects).

the multiplier bar is filled by using the ABS barrier on bullets and scraping enemies/blocking shots with your shield.
it affects the amount of points for enemies/bullets that you eliminate.

its challenging to maintain the multiplier bar and ABS barrier while dodging shots and taking out all the waves of enemies.

I've only put in over an hour into it, but I like what I've seen so far.

I am right across the sea to Play-Asia HQ, why does I always receive my copy on Sat. Play-Asia said they have the game shipped two days ago....
(They do shipped on Tue, I received an order two days ago...)

Sound like the style I like. :D

Well, if there is only one rotate directly is avaliable, it usually counter-clockwise. In fact my RGB monitor could only rotate counter-clockwise, if a game could only rotate clockwise, it's TATE would be usless to me.

The game system seem quite complicated. I think it would take some times to understand.

Alright, I captured some footage earlier (after about 3 hours of play) and it finally finished uploading:

Rajirugi - Intro, Stage 1 and Stage 2 (54 MB)

One thing I'd like to note is that I was playing on a 13 inch screen since my 21 inch TV decided to finally kick the bucket. :/

Not to mention the DC page was updated. Apparently if you get far enough in the game you get a code that can be punched into Milestone's site to get a PDF for a paper model of the purple haired character. Kinda neat. *-neo

Works fine for me, aside from the server cutting off the download a few times.

As always, props to Kiken for the vid. For some reason I don't find the game that appealing (judging from the vids), but I can't put my finger on why. Oh well, saves me some money. If the PS2 port NCSX hinted at comes true, I'll give it another look.
