I discovered who Milo Yiannopoulos is recently, that was pretty life-affirming. He's on a speaking tour as "The Dangerous Faggot". Trump merely adopted the darkness, this guy was born into it. It's refreshing to have a conservative flat out admit he loves black dick in his ass though. And domineering daddy types who say all the hateful shit they think everyone else thinks and just isn't saying because of the PC movement. He really would be an excellent supervillain. These are the same people who think our military could teleport or travel back in time during the Benghazi incident. China unveiled its latest anti-carrier missile last year, right as the US brought in a new carrier to the area.Skykid wrote:Anyone with half a brain should know that by now.quash wrote: To answer your question directly, I get my news from the same highly filtered sources the rest of the world does. In response to China's ever-increasing militarization of Woody island, the Philippines has taken a defensive posture and is even allowing the US to homeport ships there. The US recently tested China's patience around their artificial island's so-called territorial waters, no doubt as part of a larger plan to eventually do it again with slightly more antagonism.
These are just some of the many developments that have occurred in the past year. Some of the most important ones haven't even made it to the press yet.
This isn't an "insane turn", as you put it. Both sides have been steadily preparing for this since at least the early 00's. We are just now reaching a tipping point where addressing China's ambition to play the maritime police in the region is no longer something that can be put off. I don't think you quite understand the significance of embarking a JMSDF admiral on a US ship (particularly on a carrier), but that is pretty much the final signal to China that we are ready when they are.
Nuclear deterrence isn't what it used to be. Neither side is going to want to use nukes and it's not going to turn into a total war; at least, not overnight, it won't. Get this Cold War era notion of modern warfare out of your heads; we didn't even duke it out with Russia over Ukraine for fuck's sake. Something is going to happen in SCS soon, and it will be pretty much as I've described it.
Re: Trump: A real American Hero Dude
You've collected readily available information and are assuming the most volatile possible outcome. These tit-for-tat one-upmanship routines have been part and parcel of global defense for as long as such a thing existed. The Chinese ploughing money into their defense budget and waving around warships and fighter jets is a display of military might in exactly the same way North Korea likes to show it's got some muscle by launching rockets into the sea, or the US heading off with drones and whatnot to butcher brown people living in poor countries.quash wrote:Something is going to happen in SCS soon, and it will be pretty much as I've described it.
That doesn't mean anyone wants a war, and certainly not over disputes regarding Philippine waters and a little island that Japan really wants. You realise the Philippines is broke as a joke and has little to nothing to offer Western allies? We're not fighting communism anymore. Taiwan is legitimately worth a million times more than the Philippines and its surrounding waters and nobody's got into a scrape over it yet.
Can you imagine the hell on earth that would be a war with China, Russia, North Korea, Pakistan and Africa versus the US, UK and Europe? And that's not taking into consideration the current global economic situation, which frankly can't afford World War III, or which side radical Islamic states would take in the event of such an occurrence.
Worth noting people have been making the exact same prediction as you for almost a decade, yet nothing has come to pass.

Re: Trump: A real American Hero Dude
The answer here is a bit more complex; there's still an undercurrent of Japanese exceptionalism in the way most Japanese think - in a rather neutral form (which the majority of Japanese take): you can't compare the Japanese as a people and as a culture to any other culture; we're proud of being Japanese; nobody who isn't Japanese themselves can really understand the Japanese) VS as a part of nationalist ideology (which is advocated by a minority, albeit a not insignificant one - see that militaristic asshole current prime minister Shinzo Abe and the Liberal Democratic Party): Japanese culture (and sometimes even physiology - some Japanese professor apparently once publicly stated that Japanese intestines are five metres longer than all the other peoples' intestines thus making it better at absorbing nutrients) is superior to any other on earth.Durandal wrote:I heard stories of Japanese being extremely racist towards other Asian ethnicities working in Japan like the Koreans and the Chinese, although they're apparently more tolerant towards Westerners. Is that true?Skykid wrote: Japan needs more immigration. Unlike Europe, its immigration scale is too far in the opposite direction. There's no balance. At the moment they really need to consider incentivising foreigners to come and work in the country to make up the growing workforce gap created by people not wanting to fuck or have kids anymore. The old folks just can't cut it.
The word Gaijin (roughly "stranger") is applied to any foreigner; it doesn't even make any difference whether you're white or Asian, you're Gaijin (this doesn't mean that there aren't differences in the way Japanese see other cultures; being German, for example, makes people think positively about you (this is due to the shared history of our countries and similarities in mentality); black people are probably drug dealers and hustlers etc.). This also applies to Chinese and Koreans. I once read that two thirds of all Yakuza/ members of a Japanese gang are of Korean descent, which isn't surprising, considering the Japanese racism toward non-Japanese in the past.
I've met many wonderfully open minded, curious Japanese people in Japan and of course abroad, people who would never look down on you just because you're not Japanese. But I've also experienced many many instances of subtle racism, small stuff like people who are sitting next to me on the subway getting up and sitting somewhere else as soon as another seat becomes available. So yeah, racism... and stuff...
Re: Trump: A real American Hero Dude
You don't seem to be grasping that land isn't the issue, it's territorial waters. China very clearly wannts to be able to control as much maritime traffic in SCS as possible.Skykid wrote:That doesn't mean anyone wants a war, and certainly not over disputes regarding Philippine waters and a little island that Japan really wants. WW3 isn't going to be started over the Senkaku; there will be a conflict the moment China decides that another country's waters are theirs.
For good measure, let's say it one more time: it's not going to be WW3. Russia likely wouldn't get involved at first because they're still preoccupied with Ukraine and Syria. North Korea is a liability and China would likely tell them to not get involved.
The entire point of escalating things would be for China to be able to contol vital trade routes for the purpose of strengthening their economy, while the US' role would be to ensure that China wouldn't be able to encroach on other nation's waters. It is a mutual interest then to keep other parties as minimally involved as possible, since both sides want to see this end quickly.
The difference is that now we are talking about a militarized artificial island that gives China a central hub in the area. They literally built Mother Base, and here you are acting like it's no big deal.Worth noting people have been making the exact same prediction as you for almost a decade, yet nothing has come to pass.

The right's speech and presence are almost completely overshadowed by the far-right's (typical scenario in many cuntries now) and Sarkozy left a bad taste anyway (the creep will be running again apparently, if so there will be no game we're definitely fucked).
Hollande's left currently in power are useless cunts we pretty much all hate and consider traitors, the rest of the left is a mess, and Le Pen clan's far-right have more or less become the same clown horror show gallery the Trump clan is, unfortunately they're quite popular and have their chances of winning.
In a way they inspire the same accelerationist feelings, because if they win I don't give the cuntry another year before literally everything starts falling apart, fast and hard. People talk about how scary Grexit and Brexit would be, but IMHO the 'downfall' of France could be the final blow to the EU, and the beginning of a new era of hardcore recession and expanding nationalism/fascism in all of Europe. The Scheißesturm would be too big even for Germany standing as the only strong pillar of the Union.
Other candidates would ultimately lead to that end too, but with a delay of another decade or so I think, I can't help but think it would be better to face that shit now rather than in ten years.

Sure. The issue is that this can and will lead to claims that very clearly encroach on another nation's territorial waters. The empirical proof of ownership is proximity to a nation's land, 12nm to be exact. Spratly is already coming damn close to this.Skykid wrote:You know that's not how it happens right? While I agree on principle that the alliance between China and Russia is strong, in this particular case it may not be in the best interest of either party for them to get too involved. Of course, this also depends heavily on whether or not Shillary will be able to instate a puppet regime in Syria. I don't think most appreciate just how close we will be to WW3 if she's eleected. There you are dead wrong. It's rumored that a China/Russia vs US/NATO conflict has been in the planning for quite some time now. Plans do change, however: the economic expansion of the former and the reluctance to go all in of the latter would likely prevent such a large scale conflict from occurring, at least for awhile.
They are. The question that needs to be asked is to what end? For the purpose of self defense, or for the purpose of establishing economic hegemony in the region?I thought they were being used as military channels?
The Senkaku dispute is a red herring if there ever was one. Japan could completely give up that fight tomorrow and virtually nothing else would change. Are you talking about Daioyu/Senkaku, the primary need is oil reserves, not military positioning.
I'm talking about Woody, dude. It was the very first thing I linked on this subject. It gives them a central hub to control maritime and air traffic in the region.
