Wow....I didn't think that was going to turn into such a conversation.

In my experience, girls definitely (by a large margin) like games less so, than guys. I have even had numerous girls mention it to me, and how they didn't understand why grown men would play games.
Now, it seems that more women are playing games now. But it's still not much.

I mean, 95 percent of Steam accounts are male. The Wii U shop is 93 percent male. And I remember a study, that showed that about 95 percent of people that visited some VERY SJW gaming sites, were still male.

When I see these ads, I think they are going off the "52 percent of gamers are women" thing. And that is not a very accurate representation of things.

I guess I just see so much hostility towards men, who are the VAST majority of core gamers, and they are the ones keeping these folks (gaming outlets and everything else) in business.

I have no problem with women playing games. I doubt anyone does. I just recall getting lots of eye rolls, when I tried to get them to play.
Also, there was a post above that said that if you had the same access to games, despite your sex, you would play. My sister and I grew up together, and I constantly tried to get her play games. She only played the first SMB and Sonic. She just didn't care.

The media just really wants to act like women are some HUGE part of geek culture (games, comics, etc.), and it's not true. At the same time, they rag on men, constantly. Well, we're the ones who made geek culture...so whatever.

I may just have weird luck in that I run into a lot of female gamers, I don't really have the same experience. In fact I remember one of my older brothers old girlfriends playing games with me on the dreamcast when I was like 8-10.

I kinda find the wii u shop one funny since almost all of them I've met in person owned Nintendo products in particular. In fact those numbers seem weird to me when I consider that there are probably enough guys who set their profile to female to throw them off lol.

Then again, I've never had anyone look down on me for liking games, male or female, or express any disdain for the medium. What I tend to see is respect for the medium as a new frontier for creativity in art, music, fun, etc. Then again I haven't followed any game publications in years so eh. But in person or at school games are pretty well respected. So I really have no idea where you're coming from on any front. Maybe it's just a generational thing, but even my parents and older folks I know find games kinda fascinating.

I'm inclined to think even personality is determined by biology (anyone who has had a chance to observe small children already knows this), but what we are discussing here isn't personality, but a person's own fundamental nature. You are arguing that a woman can be made into a man with the "right" upbringing, which has no basis either in science or even sanity.
Hagane wrote:If you are born in a family of musicians there are big chances you will be interested in music
Yes, but being born in a family of musicians doesn't automatically make you a musical genius. Bach's family had been involved so heavily in music for so many generations that to say "Bach" was to say musician, but despite producing innumerable notable artists, it took a long time before a true genius was brought into their fold, purely out of a freak chance of nature. Bach was born to be what he was, he didn't became a genius because "society" made him into one. At best, society merely facilitated the flowering of his inborn potential, which in different circumstances might have remained latent, but which nonetheless would have still been the innate gift that it was.
Hagane wrote:A good example of this is football. In this country it's almost exclusively a sport for men. The few girls who play it are mocked and seen as tomboys and lesbians. They are expected to pick field hockey instead. So we have a powerful male team and an amateur female team (and, on the other hand, one of the strongest female field hockey teams in the world). Now look at the US, where this is the opposite. Men are expected to play "manly" sports such as American football, baseball, hockey or basketball, "soccer" seen as a feminine sport. Result, they have mediocre to bad male teams and strong female teams.
Ok, but how about we compare the performance of an all male football team versus an all female football team instead?

What gets me about that is that geeks have always been the victims of ostracism, not the perpetrators. Apropos:

Image

Nerd or geek gets bullied by jocks and laughed at by women. Creates his own space where he can be happy and at peace. Makes this space into a huge industry. Fast forward a few decades, and he is now seen as an evil misogynist for having created a "male dominated" space when gaming was a male safe space with which women didn't want to have anything to do whatsoever. Gets bullied by mainstream society and laughed at by women, who are now the tr00 gamers.

Yeah, better not to trust decades of research from thousands of well-educated scientists who spend their careers studying and collecting mountains of data and conducting tests because you saw some girls on the bus playing Candy Crush a few times. Very shrewd.

Do you also note all the times you see men playing games on their phones? Were these women playing the same games as the men? Could it just be that phone games are more popular with women and men prefer dedicated systems? Do women play as much as men?

Today the only phone game players I saw were a teenage girl playing a shmup (settle down) and a man pushing 60 playing a JRPG. I also saw a guy standing outside with a handful of noodles that he was eating off of like it was an apple. Do young men not care about games anymore? Are bowls yesterday's news? Anecdotal evidence is weak.

To that I'd say don't waste your time with braindead girls.

even if they're intelligent, closeminded still = braindead to me at least.

You could also take that statement and replace playing games with sports, or watching sports.

I think something you guys are missing is that women in general (by social or biological cause is your own guess as I don't have any study) are much less interested in whatever hobby in general. I personally think it's simple evolutionary biology; men had to develop exceptional skill in certain areas in order to get laid/survive whereas women tended to be caretakers of the home and players of the manipulative community game.

In all of the different hobbies I've had that can be seen as "unisex" the general level of "nerdiness" is way way lower in the female demographic. Even in "acceptable" hobbies such as music creation.
Disregarding biology is retarded. They are after all the rules you as an individual have been given in this game we're all in right now. From a personal perspective I'd probably say biology is a bigger deciding factor than society on a persons behaviour/personality.
I was a stubborn little shit with disregard for anything but competence ("bullied" incompetent teachers) growing up and I sure as hell didn't learn this from anyone or anything other than myself.

One time I was talking to this girl, who was reading comics. I was like "wow", that's neat, as I read them too. She was looking through some old horror comic collection, and I'm like "who wrote it?". She just looks at me, almost mad, and goes "I don't have time for that shit. I don't give a fuck who wrote it.".

By NO means am I mentioning this story, to say this is what I think all women feel about hobbies. I know other girls who know the writers, and all that jazz. But it's a funny story.
Also, I know more women who will read a comic, before finishing a game. But then again, women do like to read (more than men it seems, anyway).

Jesus.

I have had so many discussions with people outside the community where I patiently explained that it's not about "Eww, girls getting their cooties all over my video games" but actually a bait-and-switch on behalf of a corrupt gaming media that foolishly let the nepotism cat out of the bag when they all published their "Gamers are Dead" articles simultaneously.

But here we are now having a heated multipage discussion about "Eww, girls getting their cooties all over my videogames."

Anyone know if Hyper Light Drifter is good enough to justify the $20 price tag?

HLD is pretty damn fun. Very fast paced combat and solid exploration. If you'd like a wordless, faster paced Zelda with fun dash happy combat, you'll enjoy it.

As I said before in the ticker, wall slamming an enemy with a dash attack and then shooting them full screen with the laser rifle is combo of the year 2016. Can't get tired of that.

Thank you. I can trust the opinions of people here because they know a thing or two about gameplay.

I wish the reviewers and the Let's Players had the knowledge and skill to present trustworthy opinions instead of the arthouse aspirations that makes their opinions very, very suspect whenever an indie game with an unusual art style arrives.

I've been busy, the last few days...I'm going to get up to date, with all this Jake Rapp stuff. It sounds wild.

Also, I am very unhappy with how the media is pushing this as a GG story. This is the work of Kiwi Farms. There is overlap, with all kinds of sites. Lots of people are gamers.

Then again, even Mundane Matt sees this as a GG thing. I don't know why, exactly. Maybe I'm missing something.

Just read about a 4th of Jake's thread.

My God.

One time I dated this girl, while I was having a very bad time. I got a bit too dependent, and she started to really push me around. She was kind of a mean person, in general, so I should have known. But you know how it goes.
Anyway, I was always ashamed, at how I let her push me around, and browbeat me like that. Something that never happened before that.

If I was this guy, I would kill myself, and destroy all information on my life, so no one would ever know of my shame.

I've seen some cucks, while getting to the know the opposition, and I have always thought it was the saddest thing. This guy is like King Cuck. Unbelievable.

Google kiwifarms + Jake Rapp, should be the first hit. Not certain about linking since it does contain some NSFW stuff.
Alison Rapp has her own thread as well. I wasted my whole last weekend reading those two threads, hilarious and deeply depressing. I feel like poor Jake is so deep in denial but continually passes off outside comment, telling himself and the world that everything is just fine. No sympathy for Alison, no question she is a manipulative monster.

Reminds me of a Chinese saying along the lines: the one involved in the matter is blind, the spectator sees clearly.

Recently he tweeted something about wife wants him to get chips and dip, girlfriend wants him to get ice cream, and the attitude came across like "look at how lucky I am, I'm not being abused!" Yeah, maybe not at the moment, but how about he try not getting the chips and dip. If he is terrified of what the consequence might be, that by itself would be very telling. Pitiable, but for his lack of backbone it's hard to be sympathetic too.

i'm going to play devil's advocate here for a moment. let's see, this dude (mr rapp) married an out of his league, albeit crazy, ultra hottie for being a true nerd girl who essentially let him sit at home all day and play video games while she was out working both a day and a (lady of the) night job, and on top of that he was getting some extra pussy on the side with her blessing! sure, he had to literally take a few dicks for it, and prolly watch his wife take some, too, but who's to say it isn't (or at least wasn't now that she's lost her cushy job) worth it for him? such is the price for a life of leisure he would not have known otherwise.

First of all; this entire ordeal is an abomination to humanity and almost makes me into a proponent of eugenics. Fuck man.
Modern times aren't easy to live in. Feels like an extraordinarily huge amount of people living in "civilized" countries are under mass psychosis.

Also don't see how anyone could describe the whore of a woman as "hot" or good looking. Clearly below average.
There's nothing excusing his cuck behaviour aside from extreme depression, depersonalization, schizophrenia and/or extreme masochism.
