Should fix the sound issues and a few other minor things. Slowdown is turning out to be a bit more tricky because of the way the game was programmed apparently, but its being worked on.

We're a week into April. Has there been any progress on a slowdown fix?
Re: Cave announces Deathsmiles as next Steam release!
Im not as hardcore as most of you guys, but I thought the game was neat. I have it on 360 with the faceplate and everything but I don't see myself buying the game on steam till it hits a big price drop. Not saying its not worth the asking price, just that it isn't worth it to me.
I enjoyed the Bug Princess port even though I'm terrible at it. I too was hoping for a DDP release but its not a bad thing that they are releasing other games on steam.

Still being worked on. Its tricky because the way it was programmed, it doesn't really keep track of things with a timer, which means headaches for this.CStarFlare wrote:We're a week into April. Has there been any progress on a slowdown fix?

Re: Cave announces Deathsmiles as next Steam release!
there is no way I buy i game that hasn't been worked on to be near arcade perfect...
It is a big shame that it wasn't programmed while thinking about it.
In my opinion, it kills the game itself...
I hope you guys will port Saidaioujou propely at least.

This. I really don't care much to play any more Futari and I really don't give a crap about Deathsmiles; but when you get to the really good, important games, like SDOJ, DOJ, Akai Katana, Ketsui, Galuda II etc, please do make sure Cave don't deliver subpar ports.thetricker24 wrote:I hope you guys will port Saidaioujou propely at least.
It would be a shame for Cave's legacy on Steam if the games were all considered inferior to their console counterparts.

Re: Cave announces Deathsmiles as next Steam release!
You're getting a lot of pressure Nick, but I really appreciate your constant feedback. My PC is so bad that it can't play the game without adding its own slowdown, so the fine tweaks are completely lost on my part. I just wanted to thank you for caring about the after-sell experience. Really looking forward to sinking my teeth into new cave games!
Re: Cave announces Deathsmiles as next Steam release!
Now the questions are, what's the third game, and when will it be officially announced?
Re: Cave announces Deathsmiles as next Steam release!
I'm wondering why the "official" site has not been updated with Deathsmiles ?
http://www.caveshmups.com/
Curious about the new game as well but slowdown has to be correct

Is Degica in charge of getting the 3rd game on Steam?
I hope it's a DDP game.

Oh, its fine. I don't take it personally. I did hear back again that they are still working on it. Every few days I bug our contact with the dev team with another "Any news, any news"MarioNintendo wrote:You're getting a lot of pressure Nick, but I really appreciate your constant feedback. PS: I do know what the third game is, Some people will definitely be happy (granted the fact that every game in the CAVE catalog has been asked for, this is the most nonclue clue ever), and Degica is indeed handling the promotion and publishing for it. And the announcement will be coming soon, depending on your definition of soon.

Re: Cave announces Deathsmiles as next Steam release!
I was wondering why you guys are having to apparently re-solve the slowdown issues from scratch, which were also originally present and subsequently patched in the Xbox 360 version. But then I realized that Cave may have easily designed that patch with the assumption that the game would always be running on a fixed set of system specs (the Xbox 360), in order to save time.NickPalmerDegica wrote:Still being worked on. Also when a Cave game is ported to PC we don't know if there's even one member of the original staff giving help or advice. If it's only new people or some who never worked on those shmups (or never played any shmups and only have experience with mobile apps for instance) then how would they know/care what they're supposed to play like ?
It's a weird thing that games ported by Cave themselves wouldn't deserve their own 'seal of quality' if they had one.

People need to remember Degica does not develop the ports, any porting issues are on CAVE. Which is pretty sad, because it means even the company that made the games can't reproduce their own ports.

Re: Cave announces Deathsmiles as next Steam release!
I don't think a 90s shmup would be worth $20 (standard Cave price, as it seems) BUT a compilation with Dangun, DDP, Guwange and ESP Ra.De.? That would be RAD(e). Hurr durr.EmperorIng wrote:HEAVEN IS HERE INSIDE MY SOULNickPalmerDegica wrote:Some people will definitely be happy
The pricing would be fair, too, as Guwange on XBLA is 5 bucks.
Re: Cave announces Deathsmiles as next Steam release!
Any word if CAVE is satisfied with the sales so far?NickPalmerDegica wrote:MarioNintendo wrote: PS: I do know what the third game is, Some people will definitely be happy (granted the fact that every game in the CAVE catalog has been asked for, this is the most nonclue clue ever), and Degica is indeed handling the promotion and publishing for it. DDP DFK BL Ketsui Arrangement mode is the closest we'll be likely to get to that in the near future on Steam by Cave - and you can forget about DDP DOJ; I can't see 5pb.Games/Mages handing over their Xbox 360 ports to Cave.AxelMill wrote: SAIDAI

This is hilarious to me, because it implies that the "omg, slowdowns for balance!" that the Cave fanboys always go on about were actually effectively random, and that Cave really had no idea what they were doing even when developing the originals.trap15 wrote:People need to remember Degica does not develop the ports, any porting issues are on CAVE. Re: Cave announces Deathsmiles as next Steam release!
The slowdown's needed for balance (and arcade-accuracy), but that doesn't mean that CAVE had any idea what they were doing to make it appear. It always occurred to me as the sort of thing where they saw it and went "it's not a bug, it's a feature!" and from then on it was.
I'm sort of confused why they can't figure out what they did for the Japanese X360 release and the patched NA X360 release regarding the slowdown, since those supposedly are pretty accurate. If you're reimplementing it from scratch, however, I'd like to see an option to turn it off, since as silly as it gets it's also kind of hilarious judging from yakamino's 1.1 MBL streams.

I agree it maybe had a part of "random" when developped, but when random make an excellence , it's not so "random" anymore, and it can't be random when a port is done.Obscura wrote:This is hilarious to me, because it implies that the "omg, slowdowns for balance!" that the Cave fanboys always go on about were actually effectively random, and that Cave really had no idea what they were doing even when developing the originals.trap15 wrote:People need to remember Degica does not develop the ports, any porting issues are on CAVE. Re: Cave announces Deathsmiles as next Steam release!
Bingo. Its pretty easy to make it all work with a set piece of hardware. The way it was programmed originally (for the arcade version) apparently means that translation to PC for the slowdown is harder than it seems like it should be. They're still working on it, its just going to take a bit more time than initially anticipated. (apparently this wasn't as much of a problem with Mushihimesama because it was programmed in a way that made it easier to implement).Keres wrote:I was wondering why you guys are having to apparently re-solve the slowdown issues from scratch, which were also originally present and subsequently patched in the Xbox 360 version. The PCB slowdown is not random, the blitter has it's limits when it comes to processing the input lists.Obscura wrote:This is hilarious to me, because it implies that the "omg, slowdowns for balance!" that the Cave fanboys always go on about were actually effectively random, and that Cave really had no idea what they were doing even when developing the originals.

So many more game features actually originated from bugs, like increasingly higher difficulty, super attacks and combos, off the top of my head.Shepardus wrote:The slowdown's needed for balance (and arcade-accuracy), but that doesn't mean that CAVE had any idea what they were doing to make it appear. I'll just link you people to TVTropes' Ascended Glitch page. No, Cave slowdown is not there, for whatever reason.
