Re: DARIUS BURST CHRONICLE SAVIOURS (STEAM/PS4/Vita)
Congrats! I've got two 1CCs myself, it's going to be fun returning to this game and exploring all the routes.
I'm posting because I just remembered: didn't the Metal Black DLC come out in Japan two weeks ago? Has there been any information on it (videos, screenshots) or on a US release date?
Apologies if I'm misremembering or if there's already been information posted. Thanks much!

To get the Castle achievement:
There are some helpful vids around including one in this thread from Icarus I think.
However you can easily get this by spamming Murakamo's spark finish. Find a course with auto-recharge for maximum cheesage. You need to find a rhythm to abuse the burst effectively, burst for 2 or 3 seconds until stars appear around your ship then release for the spark finish. Get into a rhythm of constant spark finishers and watch Roy Castle go down in an unsatisafactionately effortless way.

Thanks! It's not much, at all, as it's a relatively easy game compared to most other popular shmups (unlike what I previously thought), but considering my incredibly low number of clears, it's still something.Dirty Casual wrote:Congrats! I plan on 1CC'ing all of the routes. At some point.
Nope, darius.jp/dbcs still states "TBD" for all three DLCs.Dirty Casual wrote:I'm posting because I just remembered: didn't the Metal Black DLC come out in Japan two weeks ago? Has there been any information on it (videos, screenshots) or on a US release date?

Re: DARIUS BURST CHRONICLE SAVIOURS (STEAM/PS4/Vita)
I found the original DB tracks to be a little strange and offputting. Personally I feel that DBAC is where the soundtrack started to get better; "Departure" and "Abyssal Dependence" are two of my favorite stage tracks from the Dariusburst games.

I adore all of the original PSP material, but yeah, "Departure" is the highlight of the stage tracks, I'd say.

I think the music used for this route and its EX equivalent (with Savage Ruler at the end) is the best of the OST. Because it takes the Visionnerz idea but expands it to the whole game by chaining songs with the events and bosses, I especially like how slow and moody (very serious, foreboding) it starts and how the Fossil boss is like this super-serious encounter and from there it only gets crazier until the Ruler boss comes in with the hardcore trance house pum pum full blasting. Obviously, safespot/lol/etc but still, I like it a lot.
Hello 31337 is nice in the sense that it sounds like a "mean" song, which reflects nicely on Great Thing and his fellows. Great, but to me it didn't quite have the same impact.
Then there is the song that plays in the Gluttons stages (and I think one of the Thousand Something guys?). The bosses themselves are undeserving of the theme but I love how it reaches its peak as the boss appears. Once again, it's a shame most bosses don't do the crazy shit we used to see in G-Darius. Ah, well.
By the way, my god CS mode is grindy. Isn't there a full map available yet? Those stages with score limits are driving me insane and that one stage that pits one of the worst ships against Gigantic Bite? Have some mercy!

Yeah the Photoconductivity Suite's great - there are a couple of other examples where the stage music flows directly into the boss, but they make it flow through the whole game for that route. Makes ADH/ORV my favorite routes.

Re: DARIUS BURST CHRONICLE SAVIOURS (STEAM/PS4/Vita)
CS mode is incredibly grindy, but every few stages you'll find a soul-crushing substage and that makes it worth it in spite of all the rage.
I wouldn't recommend anyone going through all the stages with the Preset ships. It was an experience, but not one I'd like to repeat.

I'm guessing the answer is no, but do any of the paths in Darius Burst AC or EX turn out to be a dream?

I recommend playing CS ignoring all substages and just playing junctures and using only preset ships. It's way less grindy and pretty rewarding.CptRansom wrote:CS mode is incredibly grindy, but every few stages you'll find a soul-crushing substage and that makes it worth it in spite of all the rage.

As for CS mode, I'm going through every substage, no matter what. I don't jump ahead until I've earned it. It can be a bit annoying, but I like the challenge.

Is that a Wonder Festival only thing? If it's readily available, pre-painted and not stupidly complicated to build I would break my lifelong habit of not buying plastic tat that I don't need as it looks amazing.

Re: DARIUS BURST CHRONICLE SAVIOURS (STEAM/PS4/Vita)
I try to go through a good chunk of the substages, though I tend to skip on ones that have more stages than can be previewed unless I feel like sitting down for a while.
On a brighter note, nailed CFK with Gaiden, got the no-miss. I'd say it's slightly above Second for "best ship that doesn't have a burst counter".

Except if you ignore the substages, you don't get the badass 24-zone secret stage, and you miss out on some very challenging missions (the "main" stages tend to be significantly easier in general) which can be rewarding if you hate yourself.Skykid wrote:I recommend playing CS ignoring all substages and just playing junctures and using only preset ships. Look, I'm trying to justify spending 80+ hours getting through every single stage of CS mode with preset only.

Re: DARIUS BURST CHRONICLE SAVIOURS (STEAM/PS4/Vita)
I think Hello 31337 deserves all the praise it gets, but most of the other Darius Burst tracks are excellent as well. While Suite Photoconductivity's synchronisation with the stage is appreciated, I tend to prefer World of Spirit and Abyssal Dependance in that category. World of Spirit really makes the Gluttons fights much more exciting.
"A Serene and Pensive Moment Amidst the Wreckage", which plays in zone T, is a cool track that rarely if ever gets a mention.
As for Freedom, even though it may not be very well sung, I think it worked really well within the stage it was played and that didn't bother me at all, even though I didn't like the song when I heard it in the previews/trailers. However, there's another track that kinda annoys me due to how boring it is, and that one plays much more than once. I don't know its name but it is the tribal-sounding music with little to no melody and lots of background noises instead. I think it is in the Second prologue OST.
CptRansom : I have never touched the shop system since I started the CS campaign as I thought all stages were balanced for the preset combinations. Does it become so bad that non-presets become the way to go? I gotta admit some missions are rough, but I feel that if I use a non-preset, I'll just cheese my way through with the Murakumo or something.

My experience is that presets force you to learn and adapt. Some missions are easy on purpose, but some require you to actually memorize patterns and not fly around like an idiot. They definitely did put some thought into the presets and missions. Depending on the preset, some bosses you may have found easy become surprisingly tricky - or the other way around.M.Knight wrote:CptRansom : I have never touched the shop system since I started the CS campaign as I thought all stages were balanced for the preset combinations. For example, I thought I'd never get through Thousand Bullets and Great Thing back to back with a mostly unupgraded Origin (Suba). As it turns out, you just gotta git gud at dodging and point-blanking.
Re: DARIUS BURST CHRONICLE SAVIOURS (STEAM/PS4/Vita)
Pretty much exactly this. It's more rewarding with the presets, but not everyone cares about that, and not everyone has the patience to deal with being stuck on a stage for hours/days.Blattdorf wrote:My experience is that presets force you to learn and adapt. Re: DARIUS BURST CHRONICLE SAVIOURS (STEAM/PS4/Vita)
By the way, on the stages that have alternate, harder routes and score goal you cannot cheese them with another ship. Even if you complete them, it won't show up as cleared. I had this happening on one using (OBVIOUSLY) the Murakumo to cheese my way through the harder alt route. I beat the shit out of everything, saw the "Mission Complete", bam, it was all dream. It's clear you have to finish the alt route with the preset ship.
Other than that, I usually pick the preset ship myself too unless I see there is some bullshit battle inbound and the stage says "No powerup drops" and grants me only 5 ARM and one life... Screw that, I'll Genesis-lolBurst the hell out of your lower rear!
Going back to the musical matter, yep, that was the song The World of Spirit is a great boss theme, although I see it working more with a Thousand-type boss in its final stage (when you destroy all of its turrents and it enters the infamous "wings made of light" desperate mode).
I'm partial to Gigantic Bite and G.T.V themes as well, both very ominous. It's clear that Dariusburst OST is far more melodic than the older ones, which also had catchy tunes but were at the same time experimental as hell, like some of G-Darius stuff, which sounds straight out of Silent Hill.
But, yep, really liking most of the music. There is one stage theme that has this odd digital voice synth and sounds so elating... Again, it's just a shame all boss battles take place in the "surreal tube" without a solid connection to the stage you just traversed through. (Bar some exceptions like seeing G.T. & co space diving in the background and such.)
This game really was the success/release of the year. I don't even mind the grindy excess of CS mode, it's a nifty way of practicing stuff with all the ships so I agree with others, it's some sort of deluxe training mode full of challenges. I don't think I've seen this much activity in the forum in ages either. (Granted, Mushi garnered a lot of attention and Deathsmiles probably will too but this one? We are on 56 pages already!) What a time to be a schmukmup fan! According to Steam, I already put 34 hours. Damn. I have cleared like 69 stages in CS mode and there are 185, right?

Not really. Ain't there any decent picture of Gigantic Bite around? I found one of Azure Nightmare but not Gigantic Bite.

Hm, am I the only one not put off by the game accepting creditfeed scores in AC mode?
I mean, in addition to the game changing the ones digit to a 9 if you use additional credits, your multiplier drops to x1 every time you die anyway. Also the game doesn't bother to rank you in unless you actually finish.

Re: DARIUS BURST CHRONICLE SAVIOURS (STEAM/PS4/Vita)
CptRansom, Blattdorf : Oh, I see. I will stick with presets then.
I don't mind being a bit stuck in difficult missions as I prefer to take my sweet time to enjoy the game at my own pace. Rushing everything with a beefed-up non-preset ship to reach the end faster would just ruin things for me so I am glad to learn everything is feasible with presets. The fast-paced AC mode is still there if I hit a brickwall in CS mode and need a breather.
gs68 : I am not too bothered by the infinite credits in terms of score ranking for the reasons you mentioned but I still believe it is a very dumb choice from Taito/Pyramid, because it kinda defeats the Infinite ship mode's purpose and skews Chronicle Mode progression as you said it yourself earlier. (Though to be fair, I haven't put much time in this mode if at all.)
Defining a clear difference between one-credit runs and creditfed runs through the two options would have been another step in educating newer players to the 1CC mentality and the tools were already there for that, making this decision seem even less well-thought than infinite credits in other arcade ports.
AxelMill : "Peaceful Sleep in the Wreckage" is indeed a very enjoyable track. It is not as effective as SELF in terms of providing a calm music for the final zone in my opinion, but I like it. A shame the second part doesn't play in-game.
The track I mentioned is not "A Soothing Sensation", though that one is defintely anything but soothing.
To think it is supposed to be a World of Spirit remix, what a waste of awesome potential.
I like techno/electro tracks, but when it's just a 5-second loop that plays for decades before another part of the music is added to it, it's boring, especially when said loop isn't catchy. Can't really stand that.
I checked the CS mode a bit and you can hear the track I was talking about in the Bankoru mission. It only has one stage + Hungry Gluttons and the track plays during the boss. It is night and day compared to what happens when you fight him in AC mode with World of Spirit in the background.
