Could you recommend some danmaku that put you in trance? Those wave-like patterns at slow-mo (and your speed is pretty slow mo too). Like it sometimes happened in Futari when slowdowns on bosses (or at least in ios port).

p.s.
and i didn't play any 2ho so educate me if it's related

Damnaku Unlimited 2. Fun, "wave-like patterns at slow-mo", kickass metal soundtrack, a TLB, two kind-of-different modes. And it's a 100% manly shmup, for once.
Cheaper on G2A, unless you wait for a discount: I got it during the Winter Sales for a single buck.

You're sure to be in a fine haze about now, but don't think too hard about all of this. Just go out and kill a few beasts. It's for your own good. You know, it's just what hunters do! You'll get used to it.

Is there any shmup in which you charge your special attack (/bomb) by grazing bullets? I'm 100% sure I didn't make up a revolutionary mechanic which would change how shmups are regarded by hardcore gamers and "hardcore gamers" alike. I know Psyvariar's leveling up exists.

You charge up your bomb/special attack by grazing in DoDonPachi II: Bee Storm, by IGS.

eXceed 3rd does this.

But who cares, eXceed 2nd's Ikaruga style bullet absorption into chain bombs is the raddest fucking thing ever.

You can speed up the charge of your freeze attack in Fairy Wars through grazing (it also charges over time and by damaging/killing enemies).

Not quite the same thing, but out of interest, have you played the Shikigami no Shiro games? All three give your primary shot a massive boost while grazing. Shared a couple hardware platforms with the Psyvariars, incidentally (Taito G-NET and Sega Naomi).

I think I played the third game on Wii some time ago. That's before I started to play shmups costantly, which was this very August (yes, too late). I should try it again, yeah.

I recently bought Ketsui for PS3 and want to use it in Tate via a 1080p LCD monitor.

I was wondering if someone could give me ideal video options as it looks pretty bad and I'm not sure if it's some of the settings.

it has an option for 16:9 or 16:10 as well as some filtering options. Also should I stretch the picture to fit or just leave it window boxed (not stretched to fill the entire screen but just the TATE width)?

On the 360 the best zoom level is 93% but it won't be perfect no matter what, smoothing is still required, I usually pick bicubic.

(I'd bet it's the same on PS3)

PS: well, one you've applied some filtering, stretching to the screen limits will look the same anyway.

Not really related to shmups, but... Why don't light gun games have an option to turn off hostages? They're really annoying to deal with, mainly in games like Operation Wolf, Lethal Enforcers, Virtua Cop, and Police 911.

AFAIK Virtua Cop 2 PC doesn't have that feature.

I wish all light gun games had that feature.

Damn so it's not Yusuke? Thought it was him since he can use both shot types simultaneously for more firepower, while JB is the scoring guy since his special shot is straight and easier to hit big enemies with, I guess JB might net you extends you more quickly or using both shot types doesn't really boost your damage output, haven't really verified it just went by gut feeling.
Man I haven't played the game in a long time, I should pick it up again.

J.B is the hardest to score with because his ESP shot does so much damage, but that also makes him the easiest to clear it with.

Irori is the easiest to score with and she's also good for survival.

Yusuke is the sexiest type to play with.

A criminally underrated game that would be among the most beloved if not for the awful milking.

Rly? It's wrecking me atm, the bullet barf factor is real and difficult to make sense of compared to cave's other output. Though I haven't put much time into anything from later than mushi.

Thanks for the advice though, i'll keep at it.

Yusuke is more reliable to play though, with autofire it pretty much done for clear. (Is this a button mashing game? I haven't remembered it. )

I'll definitely give JB a shot for clearing, so weird that the double shot doesn't help Jusuke.

I remember there's an interview with CAVE where they mention how they tried to add more macro-dodgeable patterns this time around and it's kind of true, there's a good amount of stuff you can just avoid entirely, especially during bosses like the car and the heli.

Blinge, do you know about the bomb charging? If you just hit the bomb button as you normally would, you get four bombs from one full meter that provide a short amount of protection and do a little damage, but if you hold the bomb buttons for a few beats, you'll be invincible much longer, plus you'll deal more damage. If you do this correctly three times, you'll still have a sliver left on your bomb meter to use for another panic bomb.

If you time when you use your bomb meter with getting the refills, you should be able to make it into the final stage with maybe only one life lost.

Speaking of Cave, which ship type in Ketsui is better?
The Tiger (wide shot but slower) or the Panzer? (straight shot but faster)

From experience I feel that the Panzer can zip around more quickly, but it's a little difficult to kill large enemies, and although the Tiger has a wide shot, its slow speed trips me up, and I feel that it requires a different style of play.

They're pretty close, but I think Tiger has a slight edge. Its speed is enough if you have a good route planned out.
