You're Next, which is pretty damn close to a Hotline Miami film.juonryu2nd wrote:is that Hotline Miami 3?
Uh, anyway, I don't mind if they're just normal characters(like Touhou), but if they're used to pander(like Deathsmiles), GTFO. All kinds of creepy.

Re: So, lolis, moes and others in shmups
Deathsmiles doesn't even pander that much with its characters. I don't know about Deathsmiles 2 since I haven't played it, but in the first Deathsmiles it's just Rosa's outfit that's kind of suggestive (and her familiar flies around bottomless for whatever reason) and that one scene in one of Follett's endings which is rather fanservicey. Other than that it's just girls looking cute because there's no shame in being cute. If you want to see pandering, take a look at Ibara's post-boss close-up montages or Caladrius's clothing breaking.

Ahahaha oh god DS2. Like DS1, you wouldn't think much of it just looking at the character select screen, but its some of the endings (and stage clear images) that leave me amazed this shit actually got released in the States. One of the characters is a 12 year old boy in a maid outfit (with cleavage window), and in one of his endings they show him stripped down to his panties. Casper also has an ending that shows her shirtless from a rear-side view, complete with sidedboob. My sister and I ended up getting both of those endings at once and were like "wtf are we playing". I think the sideboob picture was used to sell tea cans as well.Shepardus wrote:I don't know about Deathsmiles 2 since I haven't played it
But hey, at least it's not that Nintendo DS game about rubbing children's genitals. I still can't believe that actually fucking exists.

Re: So, lolis, moes and others in shmups
The thing that annoys me, if only a little, is how sharply the scale tilts towards lolis as opposed to shotas. It's be a nice change of pace to fight a shota (either pilot of a mech or something or as a magical character) for a change! As a protagonist would be interesting as well, but I've always been partial to bosses.
As far as pandering goes, if it's more towards personality types than pure sexuality I'm fine with it, but I draw the line when there are things like overly shredded/skimpy outfits, unrealistically huge tits, etc.

But hey, there's a 23-year-old, at least, unlike Deathsmiles. The rest aged 12 to 15, but hey, that's still something.

Doki Doki Majou Shinpan is a legitimate and excellent game, don't deny me this.

I didn't know these Deathsmiles characters are supposed to be 12. WTF?

I'm wondering how this thread would be if most if this forum users were teenagers and not 30+ guys
i mean, some of you kind of overreacting or something though that's understandable.
Also, if you THINK about it, it's just zoom in of character picture. NOT A BIG DEAL. (still makes me feeling bad when playing Ibara with friends, though).

But as stated above in thread, they aren't moe or even loli so that's out of questionIf you want to see pandering, take a look at Ibara's post-boss close-up montages

Re: So, lolis, moes and others in shmups
All of their ages are prominently displayed on the character select screen right below each character's name, because it's clearly vital information.Satan wrote:I didn't know these Deathsmiles characters are supposed to be 12. WTF?

And if shriveled hags are your thing, the ages go all the way up to Rosa who's 17.
Re: So, lolis, moes and others in shmups
Too bad that 17 yo still has babyface usually. Why can't they draw people more beautiful?
Re: So, lolis, moes and others in shmups
They don't display measurements, at least. The first number would be close to zero most of the time, anyway. Hurr durr.Keres wrote: All of their ages are prominently displayed on the character select screen right below each character's name, because it's clearly vital information..
Age doesn't really matter, as the 17-year-old Rosa doesn't quite look the same as girls I see at school. She looks like a(n anime) 30-year-old, IMO.

They all kinda do look (at least) a few years older than their stated age. It's like the cast of 90210. ...Or porn.AxelMill wrote:Age doesn't really matter, as the 17-year-old Rosa doesn't quite look the same as girls I see at school. She looks like a 30-year-old, IMO.

Not sure if that's an excuse though...

I've said it before and I'll say it again; (Japanese) nerds need to get laid more often. With real women.

When it comes to deathsmiles, it's not so much the pixel art in-game that bothers me, it's the semi-realistic slides in between stages, the promotional art and so on that creeps me out.
Exhibit A - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zzxeKaZc4gA (apologies for the hair metal)
The upskirt shots, that one where they're putting makeup on each other, the one with the lass in bed frigging herself off under the sheets. It's all very subtle and implied, which somehow makes it even more grotty, it implicates you in the grotiness because you have to join the dots in your own head.
I think it's clear that the characters are designed to titillate and are aimed at a certain type of nerd. There's always the argument that this sort of thing is pacifying the type of people who have these sorts of urges and appetites, but I disagree with that, I think it's normalising the behaviour and encouraging it.
I just don't like feeling like a dirty old man. I like cutesy and girly, I'd rather play a game where I'm a lass in a brightly coloured world than a big gun in a brown and metallic world, I love everything else about deathsmiles, particularly the whole technicolour horror thing, but sexualising young girls just makes me feel uncomfortable.

He's not wearing panties, he's wearing briefs. He's also the best character to use in arcade mode.mamboFoxtrot wrote:One of the characters is a 12 year old boy in a maid outfit (with cleavage window), and in one of his endings they show him stripped down to his panties.
I'm not sure of you're referring to Kimo KawaE! or the Doki Doki Majo Shinpan games, but I'll assume it's the latter. The Doki Majo trilogy are legitimately good adventure games with amusing dialog and varied gameplay. No comment on Kimo KawaE! since I haven't played it yet, but it looks entertaining at least.mamboFoxtrot wrote:But hey, at least it's not that Nintendo DS game about rubbing children's genitals. You have to actually pay attention to it though, I don't. I didn't even notice their ages on display. I feel a bit shitty about Deathsmiles now.

there is nothing suggestive about the bed scene, maybe she just has issues sleeping because the world she's in is full of scary shit like grim reapers and oversized evil cows

I have only watched the trailer - but Bullet Heaven 2 on Steam appears to have a character that is a cat riding a pillow.qmish wrote:Now, can we have a shmup about pillows?
Show me everything you have, puppet of Geppetto.
Re: So, lolis, moes and others in shmups
Well, technically yes you do see their character sprite during gameplay, complete with a variety of cute little animations. And tbh I'd consider the portraits that pop up during the dialogues to be "during gameplay" since you can still move around during those times, and occasionally are even positioning yourself for muh scorin strats or whatnot. And also in some games the portraits pop up when you bomb.qmish wrote: Still, i can't understand HOW, just HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW people gone so CRAZY about Touhou girls? Man, you dont even see them as it is during gameplay, it's just DECORATION of game interface before
But technicalities aside, I would argue that the depth of one's interaction with a girk in a 2hu game actually goes far DEEPER than the shallow interactions that you have with girks in many other games. Sure, I and many other people have fapped to many of the in-game 2hu portraits, especially after some of the clothes are shot off after a long hot sweaty stinky danmaku battle, but true SUSTAINABLE love can't stem from looks alone. What distinguishes 2hus vs the oppai monsters pumped out by high production value porn factories is their positioning as the exclusive agents in a feminist utopia. They live in a world with no men other than the emasculated rinnosuke and powerless faceless humans, their flat chests are a bold rejection of the traditional burdens of motherhood, and through the spellcard system they have been empowered to live out their most primal fantasies at a whim with absolutely no medium to long term consequences. "Well, yes, the spellcard lets them fight each other, and I recognize the death drive as one of the fundamental aspects of the human psyche, but what about sex?" you retort. Ah, yes, sex. How can these girks have sex in a world full of impotent men? But what you have to realize is that, spellcard fights are more than just conflict. They are quite literealyl LESBIAN SEX between the parties involved. The 2hus use danmaku in the shape of their personal experiences instead of concentrated tactical fire because it's not about slaying your opponent but establishing an EMOTIOAL connection. The clash of two spellcards is the marriage of disparate personalities into a unified, chaotic, blissful orgy of bullets. But maybe this is too abstract. IF you actually look at the sprites in literally ANY 2hu spellcard battle, you'll notice that they are not oriented face to face, but ALWAYS face to butt. I think that many men think of lesbian sex as being synonymous with scissoring, but that's a fucking ignorant and patriarchal way of looking at things. Really the essence of lesbian sex is licking the clitoris and pegging with dildos, both of which are executed in positions where the two bodies are oriented in the same way with respect to the relative positions of their heads and feet, just as 2hus are in their spellcard battles.
In summary, in most games, the sabisu girks are presented as objects to be consumed by the male player, but in 2hus you identify as your (female) player character and then LITERALLY have sex with other 2hus repeatedly as you play. Whereas other games give you finer grained control over the physical motions that your qt girk goes through, in 2hus you're forming a deep SPIRITUAL bond that simply can't be matched by the comparatively non-interactive experiences u share with girks in other media.
