The background color changes based on the Unlock level. No unlock is that green-blue; Unlock B is the orange-red, which is how you'd see it in most arcades now; I forget what Unlock A looks like. The Unlock level changes which stages are unlocked in Chronicle Mode iirc. The arcade version would let the operator enter convoluted 8-character passwords to increase the Unlock level, presumably in the case that they had the machine exchanged.

I didn't get a screen but I ended up with around 64,950,000 yesterday. :(

Edit: finally got it. I think what put me over the top was aggressively navigating the asteroid maze early in β, allowing me to take out both of the laser ships.

This was the closest I got before I finally broke through. If I saw 64,950,000, I would've likely broken my controller. Congrats on not immediately ragequitting and deleting the game.

The first round of paid DLC has been announced: content themed after Rayforce, Night Striker and Metal Black! No price/ETA just yet.

http://darius.jp/dbcs/

Incidentally, those 3 games are all represented on the arrange CD included with the Vita SE. The other 3 games represented on that CD are Space Harrier, Fantasy Zone and Galaxy Force. Just sayin'.

If this means we get the Night Striker OST in Dariusburst, I am extremely happy. :D

In what sense is the content themed after these three games?

But I'm totally onboard more Dariusburst goodness. Such a good purchase, I'll be playing it regularly for the next half a year at least.

Is there an alternative soundtrack yet? I'd love to buy this game, but I couldn't suffer that caterwauling bint.

Could always turn the music to 0, leave the SE up, and then play whatever you want. I love the music, but I understand it isn't for everyone, and it certainly isn'ta top reason to enjoy the game.

Will we be able to play as the RayForce, Metal Black, and Night Striker ships in DBCS with their respective soundtracks?

Now this is exciting, not because of the content of this particular DLC, but because the door is now open for returning content from previous Darius games. :3

Would you prefer the Fatty Glutton & Crusty Hammer tag-team combo instead? :V
They can do it Dual Spin-style, both on screen at the same time. :V

I wish they'd make a boss rush with every boss + variants. Yes, it would take forever, but it would be awesome.

She's strategically only on CS' s opening stage, and then seemingly gone forever. I'm sure this was done on purpose. Either way it's so fleeting it doesn't matter, thankfully. The rest of the OST is godly.

The chorus screeching is my favorite part.

I had no idea there was even going to be DLC, but I'm unfathomably excited that my favorite game of the year is getting more content. Can anyone translate the website text related to the DLC?

It doesn't give much specifics. But here's a rough translation:

----
人気シューティングゲームとコラボして、各ゲームの自機、装備、ステージ、効果音や音楽が配信されます。各ゲーム独自のシューティングアクションをダライアスバーストクロニクルセイバーズの中でお楽しみいただけます。

'The games' ships, weapons, stages, sound effects, and music from [other] popular shooting games will be available. You'll be able to enjoy each of these games' unique shooting action within Darius Burst Chronicles Saviors.'
----

The boxed sections for each of the individual games [Metal Black, Ray Force, and Night Striker] seem to describe the games themselves and not any of the DLC. Also, it says the release date and price have not been set. Hope that helps

Extremely helpful, thanks!

"The games' ship, weapons, stages, sound effects, and music will be downloadable from [other] popular shooting games."

I would have been happy with any 2 of those 5 things they list, let alone all of them. Of the games listed, I have only played Rayforce & am at a loss as to how the vertical gameplay would translate to a horizontal game. Fascinating stuff.

Of the games in that list, I've only played Metal Black, and it seems shockingly redundant given that the Genesis ship is already in the game.

A poor substitution for a new Ray- game, but I guess I'll take it. I wonder if the lock-on lasers would function like, say, Border Down.

Does playing as Night Striker mean the game becomes incredibly easy? :P

The promise of "stages" seems questionable... an asteroid field for RayForce, a city for Night Striker, and a desert for Metal Black seem likely! (IE they're all in the game already)

I want to know how to use the Legend's laser where it can fire in a different direction, but I don't know how. Can anyone teach me, please?

Double-tap the burst button, or press the fixed burst button to deploy the fixed burst.

To change the direction it's aiming in, let go of the shot button, and the fixed burst will rotate to point away from your ship.

The beam mechanic in Metal Black is different to the G.Darius/Genesis implementation, though. Genesis utilises destroyable Options and only has a straight beam powered up by countering, while the Black Fly from Metal Black recharges its beam using floating atoms, the beam converges into a narrow beam from an initial fan wave, and can be converted to a screen-covering electrical scatter wave as well. Countering in Metal Black with the narrow beam causes an impact energy orb which deals a shit-ton of damage, as well. I'd expect them to implement some if not all of the original beam system into DBCS when they bring the Black Fly into the game.

I'm actually quite excited to see the Black Fly in DBCS, being a Genesis mainer at the moment, along with the RVA-818 X-LAY, which I'm really curious about.

I'm assuming that they're not bringing back the floating atoms, and the Black Fly's beam will charge based on meter like the other ships, just like how they got rid of the capture ball for Genesis. Likewise, I'm guessing that the "push the ball" style of counter is just going to get simplified to work like the other counterbursts, since it was just a button-mash mechanic, and even if they do bring back the ball, it's differences from the Genesis counterburst are almost entirely cosmetic, provided they don't mandate button mashing (which I'm almost positive they won't).

About the only unique thing the Black Fly will have going for it, I suspect, is the ability to detonate its beam into the full-screen explosion. Actually, now that I think about it, it'll be interesting to see what happens with a ship that doesn't have bombs; I wonder what the green pickups will do.

Tried doing that... It's kinda hard to control.

Maybe you'd find Next a little easier to control, the laser moves towards you instead.
