Impressive stuff as always, Petioles!
Definitely a fun game, the special attacks are really satisfying to use.

Just got Original Mode too. Also an Lx0, but what do you expect when you haven't played the mode much and therefore don't know what to expect?
Maybe some day I'll feel like going for better survival, but I'll probably work on some Arrange, Ultra, and Max Modes first(not that I expect to get very far into Ultra)

Hey everyone, it's been a while! Yeah, as of some time ago last night, I managed to get my 1st 1cc of Mushihimesama Futari 1.5 Maniac w/ Reco/Normal!
It was quite nice to get this one, it's a good jump from 1.5 Original! That, and it didn't take me too long to get, either (It took about 2 weeks, give-or-take)!
Not a bad way to start the New Year!
Incidentally, this also counts as my 1st ever 1cc using an Arcade Stick, so that's pretty cool, too! ^^
I also did a number of other things before this one, too, in which I also learned how to play on Keyboards out of all that as well! ^^

My second touhou 1cc. Glad I stuck it out and went for it with Marisa. For run after run I was choking on Resurrection Butterfly and then I had TEH URN and cleared with 3 lives remaining.
Did a long dance around the apartment afterwords.

Got my Crimzon Clover Arcade Original 1cc with Type Z, so that's one goal for 2016 already achieved. Steam says I cleared the corresponding Novice mode on Jan 27th 2015, so less than a year to cover the difficulty jump. Seems like my plan of playing gradually more difficult games in preparation actually worked. Time to plot the course for Unlimited...
The run itself was a strange mix of failing the easy parts and succeeding at hard ones:
- No missed the first three stages, with some very weird mistakes on trivial stuff along the way.
- Died twice in Stage 4, once to the laser cage and once to Diabolos' second form (lol).
- Died twice in the first part of Stage 5, both times to singular bullets in unexpected places.
- Because I now had no extra lives, I could get the 1UP from the midboss.
- Got my 3rd Star extend at the tail end of the Stage 5 bossfight.
- Proceeded to 1-miss the TLB (died once to the final attack), and clear with 1 life remaining.
I don't know why but it seems like in any arcade shmup I play, I eventually reach a stage where I can consistently 1-miss the final boss. The strange thing is that I can't really do this in the likes of Touhou Normals, final boss of SA wrecks me every time, even now. Wonder why that is. Is Touhou truly Harder?

Got a 1-ALL of Progear!

No lives and no bombs remaining, as seems to be the case quite often with me (the screenshot shows 1 extra life but I got that from killing the boss).
This game was a lot of fun. The cancel mechanic, the bullet patterns, and the enemy movements go very well together to encourage a lot of movement around the screen, which I like. Might try to improve on this later, but a 2-ALL seems well out of reach for the foreseeable future.

Nice work Shep!
When I play Progear I kinda crash into stuff quite a bit. Should I be more proactive in my bomb usage?

Nice! How would you rank the game's difficulty compared to the Donpatchs you recently cleared?

Re: I DID IT! Share your latest 1CCs/other triumphs here...
I would say it's harder than DDP or DP, but easier than DOJBL. The early stages in Progear feel significantly more difficult than they do in DDP or DP, but stage 5 seems easier than DDP stages 5 and 6. Progear gives more lives (even more if you score better than I did) but DDP gives so many bombs you basically don't need to learn anything in the last two stages (I even lost quite a few bombs on one death in my DDP run but still had some left over), and the first four stages are pretty easy by CAVE standards. Donpachi only gives two extends total (one score and one fixed) and doesn't spawn you with as many bombs as DDP, but has a lot of bomb powerup carriers and supplies you with bombs after every stage, and its patterns are easier than either DDP or Progear with the exception of that damn stage 4 boss (and maybe the stage 5 boss, but I bombed all the way through that one). DOJ's definitely the hardest of these.Feedbacker wrote:Nice! How would you rank the game's difficulty compared to the Donpatchs you recently cleared?

Congrats on the clear. Progear's a tough game, but satisfying to learn!
I'd say that that if you're aiming for a 1-All, you want to aim for not dying or bombing up to the Stage 3 boss. A massive part of the scoring is picking up bombs while you have a full bomb stock, and if you get the St2 and St3 bombs you'll get a large enough score counter to safely get a couple of additional extends. That usually gives enough resources to clear as long as you bomb more liberally in St4 and St5 and don't die with bombs stocked!
I find it easier than DDP nowadays as once you learn to use the bullet cancelling gem mechanic to its full potential, you get way more extends, way more safety, a weapon that locks on anywhere on the screen... You can get quite powerful in Progear, especially if you repeatedly collect max bomb bonuses and keep them going as your minimum gem rank increases (and higher gem ranks have higher cancel radii). Rank is a bit nastier than in DDP but it's tied directly to how well you're doing, so you don't need to worry about obtuse rank control strategies.

Very nice man! After watching the video, it was interesting seeing a few patterns approached with a different line from how I typically handle them, and made me think of trying some new things on my next run!Shepardus wrote:Got a 1-ALL of Progear!
And I agree with you there BNR regarding a solid 1ALL strategy, after that, you just need to figure out what sections trouble you the most so you know where you should strat bomb.

It's no real big accomplishment, but I smashed Spriggan's normal mode into pieces, clearing the game with 7 lives in stock. I am now the master of easy CD-based shooters.

Got a casual X-Multiply 2-ALL after only five hours of playing it.
Even though it was a short experience I loved every second of it, superb game. It's blissful to have clement checkpoints in a second loop of an Irem arcade game, I was convinced my credit was over after I screwed up the final boss. Gotta make room for this one on my top 25!

I'm new to this forum, even discovering the IRC channel prior to it, but if there's something I can say I'm extremely satisfied with is an Astebreed (PC ver.) run on Hard mode, starting with the Xbreed mecha. A score of 47,011,536 (world record is 53.4 million and I'm the runner-up as of today).

something like 200 hours i'd say
got the game a year ago, started ultra somewhere during summer and then barely played after summer ended
then played for one day trying to reroute the scoring route into a survival one and on the second day i somehow cleared on a credit that was meant to be practice lol
