How the heck did SOF-WTN get 749 million in Dodonpachi!?

Post by Illyrian »

I think the title says it all.

The highest replay I've found was 660 million on the old superplay site. Seriously, even if he perfectly chained the entire game and NMNB'd all of it, given what we know about what chains are and aren't possible how could he have scored so much?

Your record is outdated, he got 754m this year. :P

As for your question, I have no idea. Maybe really perfect cancels on Hibachi's first form? Though even that doesn't seem like it would be enough. I didn't notice anything particularly weird in his Stunfest demonstration that would explain it, either (though he could have been playing safe).

Chaining and a lot of nmnb.

Amazingly, 754m isn't even a perfect run. WTN estimates he can get 780m if everything goes right.

Looking through his twitter history, he mentions some checkpoint scores and chains:

- 226,700,000 is his best score at the end of the first loop
- 8,000,000 on big Hibachi is possible
- He uses three laser bombs on the final boss to increase the chain (over 200 hits)
- 953 hits on 1-5 (956 is possible, but difficult)
- 859 hits on 2-6

He also optimizes bullets cancelling in the third stage which can add a fair amount (I think he shows his techniques in the Stunfest demo).

I'm sure many disagree, but to me the DDP world record is the ultimate record in this hobby. Pretty inspiring to see him still pushing the game this hard and finding new places where he can add a few more hits to his chains.

I'm gonna roll with this number for a moment and make some projections.

If 226,700,000 is his record for the first loop, this same score is achievable in the second loop, bringing it up to:
* 453,400,000
No miss bonuses in the second loop are worth a total of 35 million. Subtracting change because of not wanting to double-count first loop No miss bonuses, let's call that another 33 million.
* 486,400,000
Boss Hit bonuses are a thing, and the number of Hits you get from bosses are increased in the second loop; Hibachi alone, with 200 hits, would be worth 15 million. Add another 2 million to account for additional Hit bonuses from previous bosses:
* 503,200,000
Big Hibachi is worth 8,000,000:
* 511,200,000
Stage 3 bullet cancels are worth a lot. With more bullets in the second loop, they would be worth more. I don't have precise numbers here, so someone can correct me, but I'm going to assume the extra bullets at 10 more millions:
* 521,200,000
Perfectly collected bees would net you 28,290,000 points (I think--this number is based on the bees capping at a million in value. If they don't cap at a million, feel free to correct me). So...
* 549,490,000
Sixty million from Stock bonuses on game clear:
* 609,490,000
... I feel safe crediting the full bomb bonus for the remaining 150 million, as the full bomb bonus would be worth way more in the second loop, and be effective two stages earlier.

I totally agree with what you're saying about the Dodonpachi world record.

Goddamn I just wish there was a video of it all :)

I think that's fair to say. DDP was massively popular, and it attracted pretty much all of the most talented players at the time. It's possible that no other game has been pushed as hard, especially since it's still being played today.

I'd put Daioujou and Ketsui in the same ballpark, though.

Wow, that's really impressive. This replay's maximum chain is quite a bit lower than the highest I've seen, too, so I assume that's where most of the difference between this and the WR comes from. Looks like the maximum bonus is a really big deal by the time it's gotten as high as x10 and above.
