DARIUS BURST CHRONICLE SAVIOURS (STEAM/PS4/Vita)
Re: DARIUS BURST CHRONICLE SAVIOURS (STEAM/PS4/Vita)
I found it easiest to get the hang of the cut-in timing on Violent Ruler, since the way its laser smoothly sweeps across the screen makes it ideal for diving towards the laser and knowing exactly when you're going to run into its path. I try not to think about it too much and just try to press the button at the same time I run into the laser, since when I overthink it I tend to hit the button too early, but your mileage may vary.

It's quite complex to explain, but it's not as bad as it seems at first. And if you're using Next, you can just lazy it out and defend yourself with the Fixed Burst.
idk sounds like a personal problem to me :VObscura wrote:Then why on earth can I do the "three pings"-style counterburst nearly every time with Legend, but almost never with Next?Steelix100 wrote:I'm like 99% sure there is no different burst counter timings for different ships. Some ships have different movement speeds (ftr Legend and Next are the same and the slowest in the game), so that can mess up your timing with the cut-in type burst counter if you're not used to it.
But seriously, it doesn't feel any different to me at all
Oh, no, there's definitely some kind of feedback. If you do it wrong you get hit :VObscura wrote:(I can't figure out the cut-in style with any ship -- and, yes, I've seen Icarus's image. The problem is, there's literally no feedback on a counterburst for what you did wrong, only that you did something wrong, so there's no real way to learn how to do it properly.)
If you're too late, you'll get hit before your Burst comes out.
If you're too early, you'll fire the normal Burst first, and then get hit. Sometimes you don't even get hit at all!
Remember, to burst counter properly, you want to activate the Burst before you get hit, but actually fire the laser after you get hit. Sounds kinda strange, but what that really means is the key is to get hit during the Burst's startup.

Re: DARIUS BURST CHRONICLE SAVIOURS (STEAM/PS4/Vita)
For the cut-in method it becomes easy once you are accustomed to the hitboxes on the laser and silverhawk. If you're overestimating the width of the laser it's not going to work. When you see your silverhawks hitbox a couple pixels away from the laser while moving and start pushing burst at that moment it should just always work.
The lasers on the turret enemies in Icarus' picture have hitboxes that are just as wide as their graphics. If you place your silverhawk right next to the stationary laser, then input movement and burst at the same time and it still does not counterburst then there's something wrong with your controls. Like ACSeraph said it's a lot like a parry in fighting games. The counterburst trigger is getting hit within ~5 frames after you push burst and a lot simpler to think of like that.

You need to have 65mil after the second boss and stage bonuses for the alternate route to be selectable.Zach Keene wrote:So, uh.. what's supposed to happen when I score over 65,000,000 points on Uinda? Done it three times now and I don't seem to have uncovered any new routes, alternate or otherwise.
Also, the alternate route is in-game, not on the map, and the game won't register the node as complete until the alternate route is cleared.

C-F-J clear with Assault, first time playing any of those stages outside of their Chronicle/CS mode versions, and absolute first time seeing Hungry Glutton.
Yeah, I'm thinkin Assault might be a little OP

^Damn, blind clearing Phantom is pretty impressive. Actually I think Glutton is rather easy no matter the ship, Phantom is the real king of CFJ.
Assault is the one ship I actually haven't tried yet, might give it a shot if EX starts to get too rough. Currently I'm stuck in zone S, having trouble dealing with those rapid firing zako swarms it throws at you.

Re: DARIUS BURST CHRONICLE SAVIOURS (STEAM/PS4/Vita)
Fixed. Everything else about Phantom Castle (that I can remember atm) can be done in your sleep. I think the only reason I beat him is because Assault does so much damage that I only had to endure I think four homing laser swarms. I was getting hit by at least one of the damn things each time, so any longer and I'd have been SOL.ACSeraph wrote:^Damn, blind clearing Phantom is pretty impressive. Actually I think Glutton is rather easy no matter the ship, Phantom's stupid red homing lasers are the real king of CFJ.
Also, I had fought Phantom Castle a couple times before (and lost each time) in CS/Chronicle mode. Seriously, playing either of those modes for like, 10 nodes apiece will expose you to probably 75% of this game's bosses and stages. I think I may have spoiled things for myself.

Oh well, I still haven't seen any of the biiig bosses yet.

Phantom Castle's homing lasers are actually kind of easy if you've got a fast ship aka not Legend or Next

I didn't even know the ships moved at different speeds.
Re: DARIUS BURST CHRONICLE SAVIOURS (STEAM/PS4/Vita)
Arbitrary, but has anyone gotten the "Tiat" achievement to unlock? I'm pretty sure I've scored well over 50mil in my AC/CS runs so far on the PC version.

50,000,000 is a typo. The actual requirement is 350,000,000. Had to check the PSN list for that, but Steam has it as the wrong number.

OK... even though I have yet to 1cc anything
, I couldn't resist and liberated an area in Chronicle yesterday evening. I'm on cabinet 11, is everyone here on that one?
Also, is Chronicle liberation progress shared between Steam / PSN versions? for a lot of areas which have been freed, I press triangle but I can only see the world hiscore, not the liberator's nickname... so I'd assume they maybe were freed by Steam users?

Ok, not going through 38 pages of stuff trying to make an opinion.
Did someone already make the "sounds fishy" remark?
Yes!? Ok then I'll get to my point...Is this worth 60 Euro for a DL (PS4) only title?
Opinions please.... lots of them preferrably.

Finally got a 1LC on the A-E-J path. E was always kicking my ass for some reason, and finally beating it without dying felt good. Seeing J for the first time, and besting it on my first try also felt good.

*edit* nah on further recollection I think I actually restarted once or twice on stage 2/Eyeball Fishy before making it to GT. Managed to nail him on first encounter though.

Super Laydock, I know you are an old schooler, so the first thing is: this is a Darius game, it should appeal to you on the basis of the same strengths of the previous entries in the series, namely:Super Laydock wrote:Ok, not going through 38 pages of stuff trying to make an opinion.

-Zuntata soundtrack (and they are in top form);
-branching paths with many stages;
-the real deal in each stage is to learn how to fight an owerpowered, long boss fight (that is, the true stage is its boss)
If you ever liked Darius games for these aspects, you'll feel back home. Add to the mix:
-modern online hiscoring
-60hz uncompromising substance-over-style design (must be the first instance ever of a portable shooter evolved into a coin-op; Pyramid used the Taito Type-X extra power *not* in the way that any other developer would have: that is, they retained the graphics assets, and added 60hz performance and a billion of popcorn enemies on-screen;
-the port which is handled by the original developers themselves, and includes lots of extra tailored for a great home experience (CS Mode, overall)
-Lots of ships that behave unlike the previous Darius games you've had: with pods, beams, burst mode, and plenty of classic silverhawks if you feel nostalgic. Lots of variety to fit all the styles.
-basically, we're talking of the most important horizontal release since the advent of Gradius V.
in my book, this is absolutely worth the price.

Yep, they do.mamboFoxtrot wrote:I didn't even know the ships moved at different speeds.
iirc in order of slowest to fastest it's
Legend/Next
Origin/2nd
Gaiden/Assault
Genesis
Formula
There's a pretty noticable jump between origin and legend and genesis and formula. The rest (the ones in the middle) are all hairs apart. But they are faster.

Downloading the update..
So the wave and the burst gauge were functioning incorrectly? I'm sure I noticed a difference how your gauge wouldn't recharge as much when you're shooting a boss.

I don't have the Steam version so I can't confirm but I think it was stated earlier in the thread that Steam and PSN would be separate.Turrican wrote:OK... even though I have yet to 1cc anything, I couldn't resist and liberated an area in Chronicle yesterday evening. Chronicle mode was like that even in the first few days before the Steam version came out (I can only see the liberator's name if I was liberator), so I think it's a bug and not a version issue.

I tried Zone G today. So many meteors!Squire Grooktook wrote:I actually restarted once or twice on stage 2/Eyeball Fishy before making it to GT.

How the hell are ships like Origin and Gaiden supposed to get through all that? Is their firepower enough to just brute-force all the rocks out of the way? I tried it myself but it didn't go so well. There are spots where they stop spawning to let you through, but other places... man. Shit's nuts, yo.
After failing my CFK and CGK attempts (both ended on the stage 2 bosses), I decided to try out EX mode and got a top-route clear (don't remember the letters) first try. I thought I was SOL when I died on Golden Ruler, but then he died a couple seconds later.
CS mode spoiled me with them giving me a shield when I respawn. When I die on a boss in AC mode and have no shield I tend be like "welp, run's over, boys". I'm a dirty quitter!!

Yeah, Ancient Barrage can be quite the bastard. I'd say he's definitely a harder boss than Hungry Glutton. The Coop wrote:Finally got a 1LC on the A-E-J path. Re: DARIUS BURST CHRONICLE SAVIOURS (STEAM/PS4/Vita)
How does Assault's counterburst work exactly? Does it do more damage to just let it sit on a boss for as long as possible, like a normal counterburst would, or does it do more damage to detonate it?
Re: DARIUS BURST CHRONICLE SAVIOURS (STEAM/PS4/Vita)
Stare is actually easy if you know what to do, you just point blank him right in the eyeballs. Stay right on top of him the moment the fight starts and his attacks will miss, though for attack two you may have to back off after a bit to avoid a hit. For his third attack just go behind him. There are a lot of safe areas to exploit in this fight, and you can point blank him to avoid the more difficult later attacks.mamboFoxtrot wrote:I tried Zone G today. I've beaten Brightly Stare in Chronicle and CS mode without too much fuss. I just didn't have any lives or shields going in to the fight that one time.
Not sure if you misread the comment, but I was asking more how the non-Bursting ships get through the meteor-hell stage getting up to him.

Re: DARIUS BURST CHRONICLE SAVIOURS (STEAM/PS4/Vita)
Ohhh yeah I misread it. I'm trying to remember what stage G is like, is it the one where meteors and shit spew from the bottom and top at certain points? With Gaiden you can bomb spam it because your meter will recharge so quickly, and there are relatively safe points you can camp between the spawn points.
