Hey long time lurker here, just wanted to see if anyone had an idea on the problem I've been having. Basically I've noticed some oddities with RGB output from 60hz modded PAL systems I own, aside from the 241p issue which is a quick fix, is there some sort of difference in black levels and brightness between PAL systems and NTSC ones?
Basically the behaviour is uniform across all systems when modded to 60hz, I've got an MD2, Saturn and N64 with the "official" RGB mod, the black level issue is easily worked around by using limited range then setting my TV to full range thus clipping it to 16.
The picture on all of these is overly bright and can be somewhat toned down using the A/D level though colour ends a bit washed out. Connecting them directly to my LCD TV via RGB-to-Component actually works fine black level wise, TV deals with it fine. My NTSC Super Famicom and modded PC Engine DUO-R seems to be completely unaffected by this, just wondering if any of you had any theories on what could be done to rectify this?
Whenever I use my Wii I've been using FBX's Gamecube component profile but I wonder are there are any differences that would warrant a Wii one?
I keep up with Dolphin Emulator and a little while ago they had a major patch that fixed the aspect ratio not matching the console (they just stretched it to 4:3 or 16:9) so I took a screenshot from both.

You will have to do a proper mod for the PAL consoles to fix the black level issue. Basically you need a circuit that switches between a PAL and NTSC oscillator to generate the correct frequency.

I figured they were about the same thing anyhow.
Oh well.
If you notice, there is a black border on the top and bottom of the Framemeister image. Taking both images and cropping out all black borders, the AR on each:
Dolphin = 1.7370
My profile = 1.7366
That's only a difference of 0.0004. I'd say that's pretty damned close. Now account for the diffuse horizontal edges on the profile image, and they are likely exactly the same AR.
Anyone used this with a Wii? Specifically emulating older systems with RetroArch? Would it be worth it to get a Framemeister *just* for this? I'd use the HDMI dongle to the Framemeister and then straight into my monitor.
I'd love to collect more games but I have other hobbies I concentrate on more, so if I could get SNES/NES/Genesis/GameBoy/Some MAME running on a Wii with a nice scanlined image I'd be pretty happy with that. My monitor can't handle the 480i GameCube games either, only 480p ones, so hopefully a Framemeister could take care of that?
Eventually I'll probably get a Saturn or region free PS2 and use it with those as well, and I have a Dreamcast which I'd reeally like to play with scanlines.
Since the best you can get out of the Wii is Component, it will look good but not perfect. It may look a little on the soft side. This is due to the frameister not liking 480p. The Wii's image quality is not the greatest as well. I'm hoping FBX will make some profiles for the Wii as it needs all the help it can get in terms of sharpness. Plus another flaw with the system is that some games only support 16:9 and will Letterbox the image if the Wii is set to 4:3.

Oh, wish I could get it perfect. I've been trying.
Wii looks better on the mini than straight component but it's still pretty bad.

Well you could play around with the zoom settings if you wanted the Framemeister image the same size as the Dolphin one. I do recall making an F-Zero GX profile that filled the 16:9 screen. You could compare those if that game works with Dolphin.

Yeah, I'm guessing F-Zero GX doesn't match with the Wii.
It actually doesn't match with other GC games either. It has its own unique positioning on the screen, which is why I had to make it a game-specific (and console specific) profile.

I think a Wii playing Gamecube just copies the Gamecube though.
Though I really would like a Wii profile. I'm trying to make it myself but man the Wii just sucks. http://imgur.com/a/b8iJr

No, what I'm saying is F-Zero GX itself doesn't conform to the same positioning as even other games on the same console. That's why when you tried that DK game with the F-Zero profile, stuff was cut off.

The DK game was Smash Bros. Brawl
But yeah, I misunderstood that post. I've been up way too late fiddling with this stuff. The album got a few new pictures, progress continues tomorrow.
Updated, RGB limited solves some issues. My TV looks great but I'm realizing that maybe my computer monitor kinda sucks at colors. Using an ASUS 236H via DVI.

Same here. The GC progressive profile seems to work pretty well with the Wii in 4:3 mode. I imagine the Wii profile settings can't be that much different. Widescreen seems to be a whole different story.

Must be your monitor. I see two different shades of green in both the before and after images.

Yeah you're right, second Green Hill Zone image still differentiates them better.

Not on mine. In fact they look about the same, with the only difference between the two images is the before pic has more saturation.
Not really technical discussion but I just recently got a Sony XBR55X810C and the XRGB Looks amazing on it. Just wanted to post some pictures of it running on it. These are in 720p with scanlines on. I freaking love this TV.

Yes the 4K Sony sets upscale properly, the Samsungs (well at least some models) apparently don't.
EDIT: have you tested the scaling of 480p and 1080p modes as well ?

YUP! They all upscale fantastically. The up-scaling on this TV was one of the major deciding factors when I purchased it. Even 240p content is not too terrible on this TV.

Would you mind taking an additional snapshot of similar content with overscan on the TV enabled ? I'd like to see how it compares to the 1:3 integer scaling ratio you get without any overscan.
