Just got it today as well. Kind of lost for now I must say, can I haz a big phat ST plz ? :P

Arcade is bit small on a 17" laptop, it could use a slight overscan maybe, but there aren't any screen settings for that I think ?
Will check if I can do anything with the gpu controls.

After all, it'd be pretty stupid if a game of a genre which is 95% based on score wouldn't let you replay the harder stages.
If you find the button let me know, I haven't been able to find it myself (I'm on PC playing on a keyboard). I managed to clear the 18-zone mission I was talking about - Great Thing nearly killed me even though I went into it with over 60 shield, but I just scraped by with 2 shield left. Pretty fun mission, probably because the Gaiden ship is fun.
It's Tab, weirdly enough. It shows you on the bottom left corner of the screen, if available.
Got it, looks like you have to also complete the base mission for the option to be available.

Does this game run in 4K? I'm wondering because I have a 40" 4K PC monitor so arcade mode would be pretty cool, it should retain 2x1080p resolution in the middle of the screen in arcade mode, if that makes sense.

The highest available resolution is 3440 x 1440, if I'm not mistaken.

So are you going to fix the broken keyboard support for multiple players?

Eurogamer just gave this a recommended review, however they did say this:
While that's understandable to a degree, the PS4's £50 price tag - currently double that of Steam - is frankly unacceptable for a digital download.
And they're right.

One other thing, how do you fire laser beams? Like ones used to destroy waves of enemies faster and counter the boss? I've been watching the final boss battle several times already, and I still don't get how the player is making it look like he's allowing himself to get hit by the boss's laser only to fire straight back at it.

If you mean regular beams, just press C (A on the 360 pad, X on Playstation), if you're controlling Legend, Next or Formula.
To counter, you need to press the button as soon as the enemy laser hits you, just like you saw on that video. It's really hard to do, but once you get the hang of it, you'll (almost) never fail. Use the "metronome", the white circle and the red orbs around their laser cannon as guide.
If you can't manage that, there's the side counter: move towards the side of their already-fired laser, and shoot yours as soon as you hit it. Again, you might fail a lot, but don't fret.

I read some posts here about the turtle bosses being hard. Not for me. Ruler series are way worse. Try that Savage Ruler. Cannot make a safe area there in almost every single bullet patterns.

I think it's really impossible to escape Nightmare series because as long as it fires every laser on its "fingers", it will launch few tiny minions that came from the massive school of waves and come at you slipping any missiles and bullets where your ships cannot shoot at 90 and 180 angle in above and below. It's not safe around area at Nightmare's sides that still firing. How how?

Look like nobody gets Counter trophy yet. I guess it'll be the finishing blows then. Ugh infinite lives will do. To improve my Burst timing.
GTB's location at Chronicle Mode is very super rare?

Has anyone read that review? Another utterly useless mainstream games journalist who doesn't know anything about shmups - it's unbelievable, I've never read anything so shocking! Read it with caution:

Very nice review man. Detailed and very fair all around. Shame other sites don't feature reviews from people who understand the genre and/or why it appeals to people. "AC mode is short, I blew through it in 15 minutes using 25 continues/not worth the money"...I think you gave a very great game a chance to be looked at and considered by people who might not be interested otherwise.

^ Thanks much! My editor actually sent me a message on this one reminding me not to make it too difficult for the layman to understand cos EG's readership isn't that hardcore. With that in mind some of it's a little pared back, but most important was the message that you'll get the most out of it by not continuing.

Finally I've finished hammering away at the game and review I can join this thread and talk about it... what an amazing port!

Why does DBCS even allow continues in AC mode :V
I mean yeah, arcade perfect port and all, but it kinda undermines the relevance of infinite ships mode lol

Because if it didn't it wouldn't be an arcade perfect port. You can still tell who used continues and who didn't by looking at the last digit of the scores. A 9 signifies that continues were used. One mode is for practice/people not worrying about scoring, the other is for the score kids to prove their worth. Clear it with an outrageous score but a few continues? Decent, and still worth noting, clear it with an outrageous score and no continues? King of the hill.

Unlocked the final CS mode mission by beating all 185. 12 stages long & ends at Zone Mu. About an hour long. On first try made it to the last boss on 12th stage which was GTV and gameovered just before it died, the worst. Tons of mistakes everywhere though so shouldn't be that hard to clear. I'll put up a proper video of the mission once I clear it.

edit: also great review Skykid!

? Game still doesnt reset score to zero when continue?
because EG's readership isn't that hardcore.
1) And as you see, 90% of comments are about price OR "i loved Darius in past, they had soul" nostalgia men.

2) This is so sad. Such a MAJOR release in the whole GENRE and you need to persuade game-related sites to write about that.
There is no need to videogame resource audinece to be "hardcore" to just learn about stg games, dammit.

Damn... That does sound like hard. Except I'm gonna have to get used to it. Do I deliberately have to let myself get hit?

If you time it correctly it'll look like you're getting hit for a bit, but you won't actually take damage. It only looks like that, though, because there's a slight delay between when you press the button and when the burst fires. You should time it so you press the burst button right as the enemy's burst is firing or right as you're moving into the laser, not after.

You can do it easily to fight AC mode ZONE J boss, its burst beam is so easy to counter because the boss will sweep the burst beam, so you just press the burst buttom and across the burst beam of boss from the opposite direction of sweep.

If you take a hit (as in lose a shield or life) you won't be able to pull it off. It's a timing thing that you have to practice to get down - hit your burst button just before you enter the enemy's beam and hope for the best. If you have a shield you'll probably get another chance if you mistime it.

I feel like the cut-in timing is really lenient for counter burst. I rarely miss one, just aim to burst as soon as you enter the enemies' beam.
The biggest unanswered question is where is the money? [1CCS]

Here's a shitclear of the 12 stage 'true final mission': https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gtw0KVctVc
The final Crab boss is very cool but I'll stick to some of the other main missions for score runs.

Maybe a silly question but how many different minibosses have people seen? So far I have noticed:

a Driosawm type
a blue angler
two types of coronatus
an angel fish

I've achieved this several times, but I usually try to go for the third beat. Cut-in sounds more reliable - can you literally attempt it at any time the enemy laser is firing?

Yes you can, all that matters for either method is that you start your burst right as the enemy's laser is about to hit you.

Anyone find Zone U or Z individually on chronicle mode? Much needed practice on these stages.
