The single best video game ever made according to you ? (OP)
Re: The single best video game ever made according to you ?
Despatche I don't give a fuck about Hagane's opinion, his logic, yours, that discussion about JRPG's worth is completely off-topic in this thread, he fucking barged in saying 'your stuff is shit' and the thread pollution began, attracting more and more shite.
And you guys are not helping if you keep feeding that crap. Stop it, please, please. Or go do it somewhere else !
Why are there so many asses these days so eager to prove everyone they're wrong in every fucking thread ?
It's fucked up, half the discussions on shmups.system11 are "that: you're wrong, no u, no u, no u, etc etc etc"
It has become a silly place these past few weeks, because it's happening more than ever.
Shit atmosphere.
Please mods I beg you, I've requested a split from page 6 starting with Hagae's post, if you could that would be awesome.

I had made a slight effort to move my conversation with Hagane into less serious, better natured territory. I pointed out that his criticisms are further reaching than JRPGs alone, there's no need to pick solely on my best buddy cloud strife.
I don't feel the need to break them down and analyze their constituent parts with autistic tenacity for the sake of some pseudo science; only to use it for waving my wang at somebody over a forum.
There are genres in this big scary world that you don't like. That's never gonna change, buddy. No need to talk about some nightmare situation in which those games are 'allowed to proliferate.' Jesus christ.
I really don't want to be bogged down in this, but here we go. The film was supposed to be a ridiculous example, ignore the truth in it if you want, indeed you seem to delight in doing so.
The whole idea of FE is that you have your little army of characters who try to make it through the war together. You're encouraged to use many characters. So don't say "nah fuck that, I'm just gonna use one guy and break the game" and then complain that it's possible! That just seems silly to me.
Sorry Xyga..

So the last thing we need is you showing up with your crazy crusade, using me as an example of everything wrong with videogame fans. You tout your gaming opinions with a religious fanaticism that makes you sound mentally unhinged.Despatche wrote: here, another quality blinge post as an example:

That's a huge separate discussion in its own right, so why don't you start that elsewhere if it means so much to you? There may be some merit to those ideas on a broader scale. Count me out though; I still enjoy playing games, crazy as that sounds.

So if the closet fascists are done shitting on everything, we should go ahead and give Chrono Trigger thirty thousand extra votes.
Re: The single best video game ever made according to you ?
Well yeah lol. Anyway you know I don't mind people starting a whole new discussion even if it's the internet slugfest type, they're free and I'ts not my place to order them anything, but why right in the middle of a nice/positive one they clearly don't give a crap about ?
It's easy to bring the new discussion somewehere else people; before making a mess of an innocent little thread that hasn't done anything to you: une the [*NEW TOPIC] button.

I have had it with you.
And that's it. That's the last I'm going to do for you, and it's far more than you deserve. Because you're not going to read a word of it. Here's why.
Hagane didn't start this, because it always takes more than one person to start anything. Blinge started this when he tried to challenge Hagane with his stereotypical brand of absolute nonsense. Talking about how terrible RPGs are is objectively better than the vapid topic of feel-good passive-aggressive shitslinging that all topics of this nature are by design.
I don't care about being right, I care about people like you being wrong and ruining whatever it is you decide to ruin, with no way to fix it. I am tired of it. I have dealt with it for far too long, and I am tired of it.
No, we can't, because it wasn't. There are way too many "good" games that are actually really bad, and way too many "bad" games that are decent at worst. Games get these titles purely through superficial bullshit, and never through anything relating to the actual game itself. You, who claim to be a member of this forum, should know all too well about how most people on this planet think that the absolute best examples of this genre are some of the "worst designed" video games ever made. You, who claim to be a member of this forum, should know all too well about how tons of people on these forums cannot allow themselves to appreciate so many games for what they actually are, instead choosing to shitsling like it's a fundamental requirement of being on the internet, an unchallengeable meme.Xyga wrote:WTF does thatkind of judgement means ? Can't people get it was fucking incredible in its time, and it stayed so for a long time because the game marked the minds of many for a reason ?
Stop making bad comparisons. Space Invaders's limitations as an early arcade game has absolutely nothing to do with Chrono Trigger's failings. Chrono Trigger is not held back by technological progress, not even in graphics; too many people want a game that's just like Chrono Trigger and too many people want games that use such graphical capability for that to ever be true. Nothing has come along to try and best Chrono Trigger, and any attempts to do so have been completely forgotten. Noone wants a game that's just like Space Invaders, because Space Invaders has very little to it to begin with. The entirety of what was left of the '70s and all of the early '80s was filled with games trying to best Space Invaders, and many later projects over the years have also tried to do so. Games do not age; they were simply never that good in the first place.Xyga wrote:For instance who still plays Space Invaders today ? When it came out it was fucking awesome and there were entire arcades filled with only that game.
It used to be a 'best game of all time', it deserved that status in people minds and remained in memories even though of course technology, programming and humanity have moved on.
And that's it. That's the last I'm going to do for you, and it's far more than you deserve. Because you're not going to read a word of it. Here's why.
No. The atmosphere is made shit by people like you making worthless threads like this all the time and everywhere. Communities fall apart when people like you are allowed to do whatever you want, are allowed to keep on perpetuating or encouraging absolute lies, are allowed to bring everyone else around you down as a pastime even as you cry and you cry and you cry about people supposedly doing that to you.Xyga wrote:Shit atmosphere.

Re: The single best video game ever made according to you ?
The purpose for this thread is just asking what games are closest to people's hearts.
Yeah, I might scoff at anyone saying "Ocarina of Time". But I have to remember, it's not about whether it's the best balanced, best designed, most competitive...whatever. It's about what games had the biggest impact on people and which they have the fondest memories attached to.
Odin Sphere might be a bad game by most of my metrics, but it's also one of the games that had a tremendous impact on me, and gave me a great amount of fulfillment. Doesn't mean I'd recommend it to anyone, or even bring myself to call it best anything (as I said, I can't personally answer this thread's question), but I still love it. Based on the OP and what people have been answering, I think that's what this thread is about. And I don't see anything wrong with that.

If the concept and existence of this thread offends you that much, Despatche, why even bother checking it? It's okay for people to say things that you think are wrong and you don't have to get so angry trying to correct people. If you're "tired" of "deal[ing] with it for far too long," just mark it as read and move on, nobody's forcing you to "deal with it." There's plenty of threads here and entire subforums that I simply mark as read without checking at all because I have no interest in having anything to do with those discussions and it's not my responsibility to ensure that people don't say incorrect things. Personally I find it tiring how readily you mark people as "problems" and crusade against their actions and statements, it gives off rather cultish vibes and only serves to alienate others.

I would'nt have had any problems with carrying the discussion elswhere (as it is actually quite an interesting, fundamental topic), just not here because I knew where this was going.
No thread pollution is what I wished for, it's a simple thread with a simplistic purpose yes (and you're still missing the point, can't read between the lines apparently), so what ?
Now please by all means start a new thread with the purpose of reeducating people about video games, or just to shit on my face, I have no problem with that.

Well this thread certainly got strange a few pages back! Anyway if I could pick one game to play right now that I would consider my favourite ever it would be Final Fantasy 9.
The characters are all interesting and diverse, the story is REALLY FUCKING GOOD and I personally found the game pretty dan hard back in the day. It had some legitimately tough boss fights for me!
A close second would be MGS 3 with the original PS2 control scheme.

All games are shit.
If we're going to talk about the fundamental "worth" of certain games over others, why stop with just comparing games to other games? Let's be honest with ourselves: no game is worth a god damn thing compared to all the other stuff we could be doing with our time.
I mean, who really gives a shit if Chrono Trigger has more shallow mechanics than Dragon Blaze or whatever? Stop playing games and cure cancer you clowntard. If you're one of those people who spends several thousand hours getting a high score in a shmup, what the fuck is wrong with you? I can't imagine a more useless way to spend your time than that. Imagine if everyone who played shmups spent all that time doing something useful, like beating up corrupt politicians, or solving world hunger. The world would be such a better place! Any number of things are a better way to spend your time than playing shit-ass video games for idiot baby clown morons.
Hell, even concerns of our local planet Earth are shallow when compared to the inevitable heat death of the universe. How about we work on stopping that garbage? How fucking miniscule is the worth of your precious "games with depth" when compared with the end of literally everything? We should be doing everything in our power to become immortal gods who can survive the end of time itself. Any time we spend playing or arguing about games is time we COULD spend working towards becoming immortal lifeforms who can ignore causality, resurrect the dead, and stop all evil everywhere forever.
God video games are fucking worthless.
Chrono Trigger is the best game ever.

I should make an alternate account and use that to shit on Freespace 2.
Two working class dudes, one black one white, just baked a tray of ten cookies together.
An oligarch walks in and grabs nine cookies for himself.
Then he says to the white dude "Watch out for that black dude, he wants a piece of your cookie!"

Anyone can still post his game title of choice, I'm still updating the list, don't see any reason to stop doing it even though the mood is pretty much fucked.

Re: The single best video game ever made according to you ?
So no one wants shmups? Shmups wouldn't be around if it wasn't for games like Space Invaders. Some of those games trying to best Space Invaders turned out quite well and were very influential. Power ups probably wouldn't be around if it wasn't for games like Galaga. Not to mention that update versions of SI like Super Space Invaders '91, Space Invaders '95, and Space Invaders Extreme 1 and 2 turned out extremely well.Despatche wrote: Noone wants a game that's just like Space Invaders, because Space Invaders has very little to it to begin with. Space Invaders has quite a bit of strategy to it for the time it came out. Some examples are the scoring of the UFOs being determined by the beat of the invaders, being able to pass though the bullets of the invaders when they are right above the bottom, and shooting a column of invaders to delay when they come down.

Speaking of scams, "dairy free" to me seemed like another way of saying "still has just about as much lactose as the real thing."
@ Xyga: Well, I'm sure this won't please you, but I did think about this topic a bit on and off recently. I feel I couldn't choose. Why?
- I could try to choose a "jewel box" of a game that is short enough to do most everything perfectly, but I actually tend to get bored with those games. Granted, maybe I'm conflating things here, but I would not feel right saying a game was "the best ever" when it's not actually still entertaining to me.
- On a related note, giving people what they want is a good way to earn the wrath of the critics. As a result, we get Opus13 saying that Half-Life 2 - perhaps the most influential game of the 2000s - is a "dead end," and Jim Sterling posted a mostly untethered review of Resi6. Of course there's a hint of truth behind what both guys are saying - in particular, HL2 could be a dead end in the sense that Skyrim seems likely to be a dead end for the Elder Scrolls series. After a gravity gun, and a portal gun, Valve has played around with some of the most fundamental rules of the universe that can easily be turned into point-and-click game mechanics. Likewise, after you can shout a dragon out of the sky and ride it (and repeat that an infinite number of times), where the hell does Bethesda take The Elder Scrolls? Being simply human beings with a limited perspective has not tempered our expectations of having our minds blown open by new games. For my own part, I think that eventually we will have to settle for tried-and-true game mechanics being applied to "new" types of games - if investment in new adventures using "boring" old game technology can survive the upgrade cycle. No doubt I am of a split mind about the possibilities of augmented reality...any game that gets me out of my chair would be a godsend, I think.
Re: The single best video game ever made according to you ?
Why Ed no problem, it's not a compulsory thread lol.
I don't know why people are giving this so much more importance than it has, I clearly stated the lightweight nature of the thread's idea to begin.
Like an 'if you had to live the rest of your life on a deserted island' chat, only a bit more precise/tidy so it wouldn't lose its meaning and purpose even before reaching the bottom of the first page.
Damn maybe I should have made a separate [discussion/fight thread] from the start to avoid this mess.
It's still fine though, I've seen much worse in other communities I used to frequent, like 1/2 of the discussions ending like the gymnasium in Carrie.
The internet produces interesting social phenomena.
