well, they're all converters, but only a few are actual transcoders. "Converting" might include scaling, while transcoding implies that neither the resolution nor the refresh rate are touched in any way. The AA is a pure transcoder.
The Gefen introduces a brightness shift of about 3.5 IRE, so you can use neither your RGB full range calibration nor your YCbCr calibration. The only positive aspect I found about it is that it works pretty well with 15khz 480i signals, but I don't see you using that. No experience with the Atlona since the company isn't very present over here. The classic Lenkeng rebrands http://www.ebay.com/itm/281207328721 are solid and I had perfectly fine results with these smaller ones http://www.ebay.com/itm/381276497058
Feel free to know yourself out with something more expensive, but if you do, make sure to share your findings.

Re: Dreamcast HDMI Mod
So I just realized that the Toro can output 480p through Scart. Not a big deal as 480p is crap on the Mini. I did not know the Gefen added that much brightness. I am looking for something that doesn't add any more lag if that's possible. I am already up to the 54ms range and notice it on twitch based games.

Re: Dreamcast HDMI Mod
neither the AA nor a component to HDMI converter (without scaling) will add any more lag.
RGBs for 480p was one of the major points of the Toro.

Re: Dreamcast HDMI Mod
Shows how much I know.
I thought the big selling point of the Toro was that it supports both Scart and VGA on one device.
Fudoh, what Comp to HDMI converter do you personally use? If it's good enough for you than it should be good enough for me.
When this is all said and done, is it even worth it as the 480p signal is poor on the Mini? Do you have your DC hooked up to the Mini, another device, or straight to TV?

Anybody has some experience with any of those 3 types ?
Type 1 - Lenkeng ?
Type 2 - plastic
Type 3 - metal
Tempted to buy the Type 3.

Re: Dreamcast HDMI Mod
the best solution for the DC that i have found is the TORO with a nice pc monitor like the sony fw900. Other pc crt monitors can produce just as good results. Though you will still need a device like the xrgb mini to play games that dont support 480p.

Re: Dreamcast HDMI Mod
All three (the two I linked to on ebay and the Gefen). Whichever one is just hooked up. I've got the older Lenkeng though which still had an additional digi coax input right to the analogue L/R inputs.Fudoh, what Comp to HDMI converter do you personally use?

So Fudoh, for SDI output you'd either want a console that is predominantly 480i or 720p and higher?

Re: Dreamcast HDMI Mod
I really don't see the point. With missing 480p compatibility you're limiting yourself to 480i when you could get 480p through analogue and anything better HDMI is usually available. On the higher end HD-SDI is in most instances limited to 1080i.
When HD-SDI mods were introduced for BD players I don't jump on it. Just didn't see the advantage over HDMI (or HDCP-stripped HDMI if you need that).
