You don't; basically there's a world map sorta laid out like super mario world where each mission on the map consists of 1-6 zones and bosses; each mission then has its own leaderboard, and you go back to the world map after each mission.xxx1993 wrote:November 30th. Personally I feel like this might be the best STG release of the year, if not of the past few years.

Re: DARIUS BURST CHRONICLE SAVIOURS (STEAM/PS4/Vita)
They're arranged on some sort of branching map that you unlock gradually, you're not supposed to play them all at once. Chronicle Mode has 3000+ stages and you share your data with other people playing the game so groups of people work together to get through all the stages.xxx1993 wrote:November 30th. It can counter-burst for sure, I made a bit of a balls of it there but it's easy enough to do after a few attempts to get the timing.Rupert H wrote:Scramble Formation apparently. The Murakumo is useful when your wave beam is fully powered and the options are firing the electric anti-yellow laser shots. The beam is absolutely useless though. Can it even counter-burst?
Re: DARIUS BURST CHRONICLE SAVIOURS (STEAM/PS4/Vita)
Aw, man... It might take DAYS to get through the CS Mode, then! And I heard there might be a much different final boss at the end!
Re: DARIUS BURST CHRONICLE SAVIOURS (STEAM/PS4/Vita)
I've reached the final mission, will post a picture with the fastest route once the game is out. Not sure what happens once you beat it (I keep getting bodied by the final bossxxx1993 wrote:November 30th. They're really setting up Chronicle Saviours to be THE ultimate Darius... Murakumo details:
Spoiler
formation 1 fires piercing yellow shots
formation 2 fires round orange shots at the opposite direction of movement. formation circles you as a shield
formation 3 trailing formation, doesn't cancel anything or pierce
formation pods can block projectiles.
Burst is a mix of Genesis and Assault. The beam itself is very weak but after firing it for a while releasing the burst it will create an assault-type explosion at the end of the beam. You can trigger counter burst by simply firing it next to another burst and once there is a visual effect move over the beam. No timing is required. The beam uses very little gauge.
Multipliers:
base: 15x
burst: 2x
burst release: 5x (!)
counter burst: 4x
counter burst release: 7x
The burst is rather broken really, in most stages you can play them by ONLY using burst since the gauge consumption is so little and explosion radius of the burst release is massive. Also easiest counter burst in the game. You always have the ability to cancel yellow and orange bullets making things even easier.

How long do you think it'll take to complete the CS Mode? And what do you think the final boss will be? According to Forbes, it might be the ultimate battleship Belser might ever throw at us yet...
Re: DARIUS BURST CHRONICLE SAVIOURS (STEAM/PS4/Vita)
According to Zaarock:
So suffice it to say "a long time."Zaarock wrote:Spoiler

Eight days? No shmup lasts that long... I doubt it takes 200 hours to get through all of CS Mode... And is that what the final boss is?
Re: DARIUS BURST CHRONICLE SAVIOURS (STEAM/PS4/Vita)
By completion there I meant beating all possible missions, not just beating the final one.
Re: DARIUS BURST CHRONICLE SAVIOURS (STEAM/PS4/Vita)
Jesus Christ, I hope there is a way to hack out the first level music. Who chose the tone deaf singer?
Think I'll mute the first level.
As for the looks, it seems quit nice, but my problem with latter day shooting games is that whilst the backgrounds are usually nice, most of the enemies look like someones cut out a picture of a ship and is shoving it around the screen. It's difficult to explain but the textures of the ships and shots look too clinical, they need weathering or something equivalent to old fashioned sprite animation or something.
I also think - and this might just be as a result of seeing camera footage, that the slightly isometric perspective looks off?
Anyway, I'm getting the game for the Vita and just now need to decide whether I want to get a copy of windows for my Mac, or buy a PS4.

My bad, I was pulled away 1/2 way through the article, but now we know it is: BelsarShepardus wrote:At the bottom of the article it says:So I guess Belsar? Though Wikipedia still uses Belser.Translation Note: Previously, the main enemy in the Darius series was translated as “Belser”. Since the release of the original DariusBurst on the PSP, this has been instead been written in English as “Belsar”. The latter is a more accurate translation of the Japanese and as such is used here.

Learning how to counter-burst by cutting in has made this game even better for me. Once you've learned how to cut in, you'll never do the "stand in the way of the beam" method again other than on the easiest bosses.
I'm a fairly intermediate player. Not an expert by any means (Especially not compared to Zaarock and his mad runs through CS mode stages) but I just managed a fairly high scoring no-miss run of the arcade mode's ADH route mainly through the cutting in method on bosses.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0QWGQcU-p1Y
I've only really touched CS mode for the purposes of testing - The majority of my 21 hours playing for fun has been spent in AC mode. Getting a couple of people over and smashing out some chronicle mode stages is going to be incredible. I'm all for score chasing (I've been spamming ADH route) but it's so, SO nice to actually have proper length progression in a shmup as well.

Are there options I'm missing that allow you to add the meters/score like in this video from the arcade version anywhere that I'm missing? I think it'd be quite useful.
Edit: I mean using the letter-boxed areas!

Anyone else getting this on the Vita? I see very little discussion on that. It's the only console I have, and I'm ridiculously psyched for this! Have this huge fear we're gonna hear it's delayed any moment now -_- Also, I'm assuming $40 on that platform?

I'm curious as to the AC mode on the Vita though.

Preordered a good while ago. Only physical release available and it means I can play on the go. Also that console needs some action, it's severely underfed.roadpuppets wrote:Anyone else getting this on the Vita? I see very little discussion on that. Already made a request to Degica but seems that we'll have to deal with it on every new game. Apparently it's just me that doesn't understand jazz, but actually it's just base average muzac with a really out of tune vocalist.Jesus Christ, I hope there is a way to hack out the first level music. By cutting in you mean that you fire the beam just before entering the beam of the boss ?Vally wrote:Learning how to counter-burst by cutting in has made this game even better for me. I haven't seen details on the Vita version; are there any? Usually a vita release means a crippled version, lower detail, lower framerate etc. That would mean a no-go. If it's a decent 60fps affair for portable that would be cool (also rare)
Re: DARIUS BURST CHRONICLE SAVIOURS (STEAM/PS4/Vita)
It's easily got the hardware to run a perfect version of this. It's not like the power discrepancy between the PSP version, and even that was pretty decent.spmbx wrote:I haven't seen details on the Vita version; are there any? Re: DARIUS BURST CHRONICLE SAVIOURS (STEAM/PS4/Vita)
It's discussed a bit in that Forbes interview. Sounds like they're putting a lot of effort into making the transition to Vita feel seamless, getting everything running smoothly with no omissions, etc. Sounds promising, anyway.

Will try and see if I can get it to work with the Original ship. Seems like Vally made it work, but the few times I tried I couldn't make it last very long?

Re: DARIUS BURST CHRONICLE SAVIOURS (STEAM/PS4/Vita)
You don't need to cut-in counter with Genesis - or Gaiden, for that matter - as its beam works like it does in G-Darius so "great success" is meaningless in this context.1up wrote:Yes, I've had great success doing this also with the Genesis ship
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FI_znaSVdOA
Cut-in counters are for ships with "traditional" Burst Units eg Legend, Next, Assault, Formula etc that need a "near-death" trigger to activate.
Origin and Second don't have Burst Units at all, so cutting-in is really another way of saying "I'm an idiot and want to die". :V
