Strania-The Stella Machina announced for steam (Out Now)
Re: Strania-The Stella Machina announced for steam (27 Novem
Senko no Ronde DUO PC port fucking when!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!!!

Re: Strania-The Stella Machina announced for steam (27 Novem
G.rev is pleased to gain participation in the platform as a publisher and is planning to self-publish its games previously released to other platforms as well as new titles in the future.

Great News, that basically confirms Under Defeat will be next since strainia is probably a x360 port . What will come after will be intressting.

Now G.rev is bringing their titles to Steam, and their first release is next week? These past few months of just announcements alone are unreal. And there's more on the way. This is a hell of a time.
I fully expect Under Defeat HD to be next on the list. Personally, I'd like to see Senko no Ronde with netplay turn up on there. Border Down as well, since I never really put the time into that game (but listened to the soundtrack many times).NeoStrayCat wrote:Well, it is, but since G.rev is coming by steam now. How about finally we'll get Border Down (if it ever happens). But then they'll probably give us Under Defeat HD or Mamoru-Kun Curse next, but we'll see one day. (Sheesh, maybe even both Senko no Ronde's. or whatever catalog G.rev has.)

I just bought this on XBLA too!
Oh well, guess I'll just buy it again in the future...

One less reason to hold onto my old consoles.
Fingers crossed for Border Down.

I guess we'll have to buy the shit out of this to get it. I'd also be really happy if we got Under Defeat HD+ without the awful performance issues from the PS3/360 ports.T4N3 wrote:The shmup year ever.

Well, whoever's the TC here (edit the date if you can), looks like the game got pushed up earlier to the 24th now, lol.

Done, still says 25 for me but I guess because of timezones.

If Under Defeat (normal or HD) comes to Steam, I will be a very happy man.

Re: Strania-The Stella Machina announced for steam (27 Novem
The DLC is an entirely different game from start to finish. Same mechanics, but different stage designs, enemies, bosses, gimmicks, everything. It's basically it's own sequel, and quite great.kane wrote:What does the DLC do exactly? I read the bit about doing stages in reverse from the enemy's perspective, but does the stage design etc. change? I guess enemies and boss fights have to change at least for the premise to make sense? I don't want to watch the entire video and spoil the game, so could someone please chime in?

New bosses, new stage layouts, new music in a different style. The systems are the same but it's more than just a loop or an arrange mode, it's practically a second game.kane wrote:What does the DLC do exactly? I used to be pretty prudent about what games I buy, but it's hard resisting all these shmups coming out on Steam...

If we see a new game out of them I'll be astonished.CRP wrote:new titles in the future.

In the JP blog entry covering the PC release, it says that this is the "first entry". It doesn't say anything about new games.CRP wrote:G.rev is pleased to gain participation in the platform as a publisher and is planning to self-publish its games previously released to other platforms as well as new titles in the future.

I would be very surprised if they could even afford to make new games, they've been working as a subcontractor for 2 years.
Re: Strania-The Stella Machina announced for steam (27 Novem
If I remember well from an interview, they are only 2 people and developing Strania needed the help of Hiroshi Iuchi (seems also is friend of them) to code and contracted one person for 3d models. I can't remember and I can't check now, but music is also composed by someone close to themElixir wrote:I would be very surprised if they could even afford to make new games, they've been working as a subcontractor for 2 years.
Really love G.Rev games, I am supporting them for sure and will buy day 1 their game
I hope the steam release succeds, and they get the finantial support to develop a new game

Have waffled over buying Strania for years, but now seems like a damn good time. Especially since the Mrs. is getting a brand new laptop which means I can totally monopolize the old one:D, and Side Vower is included.
Love me some Grev explosions. A non DC, non shitty port of Under Defeat would be awesome as well.

Edited my previous message as the information was wrong:

Maruyama: Graphics, primarily the backgrounds. He wasn’t a part of the game system or story, but since we were friends from before, he kindly joined as a graphic designer.
—Right, G.rev worked together with Iuchi on Gradius V. Changing the subject, the music for Strania was done by Keishi Yonao. Please tell us how you chose him.
Maruyama: When we started the Strania project and it came time to decide on who to choose for a composer, the X68000 and PC Engine immediately came to mind, and so naturally Keishi Yonao’s name came up too.
There were other game composer luminaries I also considered, and I was having trouble picking one until I came across a video on youtube of Yonao playing the Korg DS-10. As soon as I heard that I asked Shinji Hosoe for Yonao’s contact information. I requested that he compose the music for Strania, to which he readily agreed.

Yonao definitely needs to do more, really cool dude.

Check out Yonao's compositions for Star Trader (x68000).

Re: Strania-The Stella Machina announced for steam (24 Novem
Game is up now, $12 for the launch week (or regional equivelant), G.Rev has also mentioned on their Facebook page that the steam release has a "new" option called "Revival", so that you can continue from a checkpoint (even though I think that's kinda redundant, since I think the 360 release does the same either way.)
But I'm guessing, and I hope, this lets you continue on Stage 7. Since as most of you guys may or may not know that losing all your lives to the TLB in Strania on both sides causes an instant game over, even if you have credits left.
Also, no Online Co-Op (only local co-op), even though this was mentioned on the games official site, but yeah, still sucks, I guess we can ask G.Rev to put it in the Steam release? Ugh, the game's online even had smooth play and no lag on the 360 release.

Re: Strania-The Stella Machina announced for steam (24 Novem
Just bought it. Runs like a dream! My only gripe is the tutorial text appearing on the first stage and I can't find a way to disable that. edit: my bad, it can be turned off using "Message = OFF".
Having some fun with the dual lolSwording! I'm also so glad that there aren't any voices yelling or yapping around although it would've helped to have some echoey robotic system voices serenading around. Or maybe I just like Ikaruga's robotic voice...
The main menu of the game does leave a rather poor impression as well, I was hoping it was going to be a bit more elaborate, especially the screen options, which only has the resolution. Can't touch textures or anything.

I have, and yes, starting multiplayer requires another controller and there's no option to play online as the 360 version did.Squire Grooktook wrote:That sucks. Also for further proof! Official site says it. -> http://grev.co.jp/str/index.html
Hopefully it gets patched in.

Re: Strania-The Stella Machina announced for steam (Out Now)
Ah, okay. That's a MASSIVE disappointment.
I really feel like online play could do a lot for a shmup with casual players. It's a damn shame it's so hard to set up or no-one bothers.

Re: Strania-The Stella Machina announced for steam (Out Now)
There's probably a strategic advantage in adding online play in a later free update, as a way to bring more attention to the game once the launch buzz has died down... not that I expect that's the case here.
Anyway, the ports runs fine for me, minus a little tearing here or there which I haven't yet tried to address. Nothing much to speak of in terms of display options, but I'm used to that by now.

Re: Strania-The Stella Machina announced for steam (Out Now)
Yeah, the port's freaking awesome, looks more clearer to me than the 360 release, but yeah, hopefully within time, or we can ask G.Rev if they can add it back in someday. Though yeah, issues will be bound to some people to try to get it running.

Update: G.Rev has now replied in the steam thread and has created a separate "Bug Report forum" in case of any issues you guys may have.

So far plays good. Of course you need to bump it up to 1080p to make the graphics look the cleanest.
So far I need to play with it more and see if it grabs my attention like Eschatos did with me.

Re: Strania-The Stella Machina announced for steam (Out Now)
I don't understand how this revival thing works. It doesn't seem to do anything unless continues are also turned on. In which case why default it to on and continues off?
