We say "best game ever!" out loud so easily, but what about being serious about it ?

What is for you the single best video game ever made, regardless of genre and support ?

Thread 'rules' if necessary, and please:

- Only ONE, single title, no series, no 'top' or whatever. EDIT: and no cryptic posts please, if you want it added to the list clearly state the game's title, not two, no maybe's or if's or halfs. Thanks.

Sensible World of Soccer 96-97. Best soccer game ever.
Fun, addictive and challenging if you choose the worst teams against betters. Never 2 matches are the same, nor the goals scored. You can play the game forever cause there's no ending and you can edit teams and squads to update to the current season
Furthermore, there is still an active community playing the game online

For personal number one it's definitely Silent Hill 2, the only game that can truly make me feel. For sure the most fully realized and intriguing world of any game I've ever played. Pretty sure the disc itself is haunted.

But as a game? Definitely not the best.

Horrible question, so I'll decline to answer but somewhat cheekily admit to thinking Majora's Mask is one of the closest things to genuine genius in a video game and I'm still amazed as to how it was constructed in the manner it was. But that doesn't discount any other works of similar merit, so it would seriously hurt me to be definitive.

I also hate many of the responses in the thread so far - some more than others - which makes me dislike the question even further.

I'm going to go with Raiden DX as well. Sure, it doesn't have an explicitly stated polished storyline or other modern features but the game has consumed me. The Ace Combat series would follow in second place.
