That would suggest that you're much more lenient towards bad ports on the DC, because you see them as faults from the software's side instead of the hardware's. Bad ports are always a waste of a system's resources, regardless what the system might be.Zweihander wrote:...also depends on the quality of work put into the port. You've never admitted it either, before now. Also, at no point did I state that a PS2 port of a DC game didn't improve upon a perfect Naomi port.

I'm not sure whether the highlighted part is meant as a complaint, but it does sound like one. If it is it's a bad one since like you say, the user can turn the slow-down on or off to suit his liking. If the port had done away with the slow-down altogether without a way to activate it, then I would understand.Look at Shiki 2 on PS2-- I'll admit, I was surprised by the fact you could turn off the slow-down... though perhaps some people don't want that, seeing as in the arcade, it would naturally slow down at key points.
Now this here is just silly. Where do you get the idea that the PS2 couldn't handle Bangaioh equally well as the DC? Again, the evidence that the PS2 can push sprites is out there in the forms of Mushi, DOJ, Galuda, etc. Then again, horrid slow-down is unforgivable, i.e. what would happen if you tried to put Bangaioh on the PS2.
But really, this is all utterly pointless and I honestly feel stupid for getting caught up in it. DC is not the end-all, be-all system. Neither is the PS2. Nor the Cube or XBOX or 360 or Revolution or PS3. Game systems are tools. Means to an end. What a hammer is to a carpenter. If there was a way to play all my disc- and cartridge-based games flawlessly on one great Überbox, I would buy that in a heartbeat and get rid of the original consoles. Better yet, if I could disregard even that last piece of hardware and insert every type of game media into my ass, have the image projected into my eyes and use my nipples as analog sticks, I would.
Because like somebody once said...Fuck systems. I play games.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

Zwei: You do realize Bangai-o is slowdown free on N64?
The N64 can handle Bangaioh. The PS2 has proven itself capable of handling complex 2D games many times. This comment is not grounded in reality, it's grounded in fanboy delusions.Zweihander wrote:Then again, horrid slow-down is unforgivable, i.e. what would happen if you tried to put Bangaioh on the PS2.
Re: sage
So what's up with them platformers and run 'n guns? I mean, am I right? The system that is continuously heralded as consoledom's "last bastion of 2D gaming" has no platformers? What is up with that? And don't say a word about Napple Tale. Anybody. Because that game is a turd and anyone who's played, knows. It's not even funny. Still a joke, nonetheless.Zweihander wrote:--Excellent support for 2-D graphics.

dreamcast is the most overrated console of all time.
it has a few arcade ports that i dont care about (virtua tennis, crazy taxi and all that mess) a whole bunch of shitty games, and had like 3 shmups before it died.
what it is: a good console for 2D fighters, even if the the xbox and ps2 have caught up by now.
a good console for some nice arcade ports.
shenmue saga.
it has waaaay too many retarded fanboys like zweihander, thinking ikaruga and bangaioh cant be done perfectly on it despite evidence of the contrary.
what it isnt: a good console overall, arcade ports are cool, but it's not the end all of videogames.
a must have console for shmups, it stared getting some after dying, but is pretty lacking in exclusives cept takumi stuff. and trizeal LOL.

The Dreamcast can run at .5 FPS sometimes during Bangai-O. I've done it before. It was cool. I had max missile attack... and the boss got close to me... and it shot off missiles... I shot all my missiles... and it went on for 4 seconds, then I sat and watched as the frame scrolled across the screen into the next frame. I was in awe of what I had done.Zweihander wrote:Ikaruga and Bagaioh would not be possible on the PS2. I stand by this. It was said before that Treasure avoided porting Iky to the PS2 in an act of quality-control. Bangaioh would run at a steady 0 FPS during the 400MAX!!! moments. (i.e., your PS2 would freeze.) The games would be possible, but not worth playing on the PS2-- and by "this and that can't be ported to the PS2", i mean effectively. I wouldn't count a shitty version of Iky or Bangaioh as the actual game. I just wouldn't.Ghegs wrote:Here:Zweihander wrote:On a more serious note, please point out where i said "a bad port is okay". Unless you've got something like a Chess set handy, but the board and pieces probably count as a system in that context.

I think what he meant by that statement originally was "As long as I like a game, I really don't care what system it's on." Basically, a call to put the most emphasis on judging games on an individual basis, rather than lumping a system's library together and labelling the whole kit and kaboodle a certain way simply because there's something about the system itself which either attracts or repels you. Nothing really "hardcore" about it, at least I don't see it that way.
In any event, it's a mindset which I tend to agree with.

Wow are you serious? Hardware released 4 and 7 years after the Dreamcast was released is more advanced??Neon wrote:Gamecube (and now X360) are capable of better.--A perfect NAOMI machine. Take a NAOMI arcade game, like Ikaruga or Shiki 2 for example. Dreamcast? Perfect port.

I concur, that is the most cliche', bulllshit, lame statement I have ever read on gaming boards (and its used over... and over... and over... and over...)

Its not possible for something that was pretty much ignored at retail to even be considered as overrated as the only people who would appreciate it are the ones who recognised and wanted what it offered to begin with. The vagrant wrote:dreamcast is the most overrated console of all time.
If you want overrated play on an Xbox, How something can be popular with the most limited variety of games and virtually no effort from developers to do anything out of the ordinary for 3+ years is an amazing achievement.
Personally i liked the Dreamcast but...
I'm not gonna forget about that time me and Myles were playing Quake III and i actually got up, made myself dinner and ate it before even one map was loaded. Another time i drank two cans of beer.
That sucked. Well... except for the beer.

Godzilla was an inside job
the phrase is the anti bullshit fanboy kryptonyte, those that pick and choose which game they actually like or not based on which system its on, like that dude with a naomi avatar.
i cant believe people think others dont see past the blatant bullshit, its crazy, and insulting at the same time being taken for a fool.
and you made my point, it IS overrated by fanboys who talk about it like the second coming, it sold like shit not because $ony is teh evilzors (well, maybe actually having a decent advertizing would have helped) but because it offers no variety of games whatsoever, you get arcade ports and well, nothing.
and nintendo killed sega as much as sony did.
AND i was a sega fanboy, but ive grown past that point maybe 10 years ago.

Cliched though it may be, I stand by it. So many "hardcore" gamers get so obsessed with hardware that content almost falls by the wayside. They'll spend stupid amounts of money on games that suck because they're on systems they like, rather than buying games they might actually enjoy more on other systems. I've seen the same thing in music and video, people who'll pick a format and stick with it to the end, even if albums or movies they might enjoy more are coming out elsewhere. Why buy Police Academy 3 on laserdisc instead of getting a better movie on DVD? Why get a shitty new age album you'll hate on SACD when you could get a great album on CD instead?jp wrote:bloodflowers wrote:Otherwise knows as "I'M SO COOL I MAKE STATEMENTS SHOWING IM H4RDC0R3!!!!!!111". But so it goes. Someone will, instead of getting a game they'll enjoy, spend a stupid amount of time hunting down an obscure mahjong for their system of choice because they've got all the good games for it already. Of course, they'll never actually play the mahjong game, but dammit, it's a game for their favorite system they don't own yet!
Personally, I'm of the opinion that these people don't deserve to be called gamers, as hardware fetishism clearly outshines any interest in gaming itself. I also feel the same way for other things: an audiophile with a $50,000 sound system and four albums is not a goddamn music lover, and someone with every movie ever made for the Beta format and nothing else is not a film lover.
And Zwei, do you have anything at all to back up claiming that the PS2 couldn't handle Bangaioh beyond "well I just think so because $ony lol"?

What the fuck is the point of discussing anything with you kids if you won't admit when you're wrong? The last post [edit - Zweihander has deleted it] is effectively covering your ears and saying 'nya nya nya, I can't hear you.'
Well, keep being the way you are, it's the worst punishment you could have. Ps2 not able to handle N64 or Naomi games - big pfft.

Nope. It means you were played. I love the Dreamcast plenty (because "Fuck systems, I play games") and was having as much fun with the joke as the guy who started the thread. It is a fact though that there isn't a single platformer on it and that is retardedly dumb. PS2 has run n' guns. Also, I tend to believe that anything that can be done on the N64 can be done on the PS2. Also, Bangaioh features ridiculous amounts of slowdown on the Dreamcast. You woogitlover!Zweihander wrote:....does that mean this whole thread took a joke too far? myself, Ghegs, PaCrappa, and everyone who actually took this shit as a serious discussion? were we all played like cards-- by our very own hand, as Neon's disclaimer resides in the initial post...?Neon wrote:Add your own!
