Csy 2100 image cutting in and out

Post by Hoagtech »

I bought a csy 2100 from England to ship to the USA. Once it arrived it had a euro 5v power supply. I couldn't plug it in but I noticed it said it ran off of 50/60hz and 100-240v.

So I broke open the power supply and removed the positive and negative solder points and rewired them to a 120v PC cord. It works flawlessly on my SONY WEGA. I just got my copy of Rockman 1 for the famicom and I decided to take the whole scart setup with me on my vacation to Whistler BC.

Anyways when I plugged it in, the music would play fine but the picture would cut in and out on the Toshiba Lcd TV in our condo. I tried other games even US ones but the picture kept cutting in and out?

Does anyone know what's going on and how to fix this?

Just speculating but I would guess like most analogue converters/transcoders it's got at least one potentiometer on the pcb for signal adjustment.

Thanks xyga. I have another transcoder that is a knock off of the csy 2100. This thing cost me 3x more than the shiny black one.

So if that is the case, I'll bring the knockoff for vacations as the csy is perfectly color balanced out of box. And I don't wanna mess with it.

I just leave the cover off on the knock off but it has a touchy pot that when I tap makes the image either green or red. And I don't want that to happen to my good one

I think your right though

If losing the color balance is your concern just take note of their initial position (carefuly drawing on paper) and you'll easily get it back later. Would a small deviation persist it should be easy to fine-tune while displaying various color balance patterns (240p test suite is our friend).

The problem with that transcoder and its clones is that - AFAIK - nobody cared to list the functions of all 6 pots and save many users the trouble of aimlessly googling the stuff when in trouble.
Out of the 6 pots at least 3 should involve colors, 1 the tint or something, 1 probably some 'power' leveling thing, and a last 1 should be for frequency/clock adjustment: the one you're proabably looking for (or both the power and frequency for a more complete adjustment).

I was thinking your knockoff having an overly sensitive pot doesn't mean it will be the same with the original 2100.
Anyway using a non-conductive screwdriver and testing a few degrees back and forth on each shouldn't break anything.
Well, I would try everything right away, but that's just me. ^^

PS: here Billkwando listed 1 3 4 6 from his knockoff: http://www.neo-geo.com/forums/showthrea ... bleshootin

@xyga , I will have to do that if it doesn't time with my new Sony (arrives this Thursday  )

For now I robbed another Lcd TV out of the condo bedroom and brought it down to the living room. It has much less input lag only this one scales 240p to 480i :?

Good enough I say! Just got to wily world on Rockman 5.

And on a side note.. Why the heck is the first one so darn hard? It's almost unbearable with no saves and freak timing jumps everywhere. I got so frustrated I put it on the back burner till I beat Rockman 5 and Rockman 8 on the Saturn..
