Hyper NeoGeo 64 perhaps? Selling carts for 10k+ sounds like a good business to me.

Custom made, maybe with a "cheap" microcontroller IP for that classic coding feel...or ARM for that more modern tool ecosystem and support (one can hope).

It suggests custom hardware, but that might be a translation thing? Announcement in 2016? That's when Nintendo's new hardware is expected to get a major announcement and potentially release....

Either way, something more affordable than NeoGeo would be nice. Given they've ditched the DC (hidden away in Facebook comments, the kit they used for the ports has severe limitations which contributed to the major bugs on Neo XYX), the games only reach a few hundred people. Gunlord and Fast Striker were both excellent games which deserve a broader audience, but I think that DC Neo XYX lockup bug burned a lot of bridges.

Really interesting read, I liked the last paragraph hinting towards Danmakus.

Kraut Buster on that video looks like the "Czechoslovakian Ligne Maginot" in Jizera Mountains.
The rear gate is closed down
The way out is cut off

I like how he disses Metal Slug 4 and 5. "Yeah, even if we totally fail, I'm sure we can do better than that."

Metal Slug 4 is pretty bad, but 5 is a very good game. In terms of the graphics, I saw nothing of Kraut Buster that suggests that they will be able to get close to it at all.
