I think one roll every two days is good, especially for those on different time zones.

I'm in, sounds fun.

Registration will remain open until the event begins this Friday at 9pm (Japan time), so anyone interested go ahead and sign up. Seriously, don't hesitate to join no matter your level or schedule! This should only require around 10-15 minutes every two days and the more participants we get the more interesting it will be.
---
Beyond what was mentioned previously in my explanation of the event, there are a few other things I want to go ahead and set in stone.
The games will be drawn every two days. Again keep in mind my times are all Japan time because that's where I live. I intend to reveal the first game around 9pm on Friday night my time, which should be earlier in the day for most of you. Second game will begin on Sunday at 9pm and so on. Once a new game begins submissions for the previous game will no longer be accepted. For this reason I will never begin a new game earlier than 9pm my time. If you miss the submission cutoff you will lose a life. Two days is plenty of time to play a single credit, so try not to procrastinate it.
I intend to play every game I draw myself before assigning it to you. I'll be running everything via MAME plus on an impressively shitty old laptop. So if my computer runs it without any major problems it should be suitable for everyone to play. We may play games with known problems like slight input lag or glitches or sound issues if that's what the Colonel orders. Since we are all playing the same thing via MAME there is no requirement that the emulation be perfect. It merely needs to be playable, and I will make sure that it is.
For the sake of fairness no console versions or personal PCBs will be allowed. Everyone should play on MAME via default settings using only a single credit with no continues. You get only one attempt. One. I will however allow you to boot up the first few seconds of the first stage to figure out the controls and properly set them, but this is not an excuse to abuse it. Use your own honor and conscious here. Auto-fire and custom buttons are totally OK. Save states obviously aren't. Use common sense. Please take a screenshot at the end of your credit, during the continue countdown timer if possible.
---
Submission format is as follows:
Player Name - Game - Ship/Player Side (If applicable) - Stage - Score
<SCREENSHOT>
---
The goal is to remain in the tournament for as long as possible without depleting your lives. This is done by reaching any given draw's stage benchmark. Once you reach the benchmark you are safe, however you should finish the credit rather than stopping right then and there. Any player who clears at least 1 loop of a draw will be granted an Extend. Additionally, in the event all remaining players fail to reach the benchmark of a game that would take their last life the tournament championship (and prize) will go to the player with the highest stage -> score on that final draw. Therefor, long term survival is still an important factor (don't needlessly bomb spam a game you would have a chance at clearing otherwise), and in the endgame of the tournament scoring will also likely become an important factor.
If you have any questions post away!

Signing up.
I don't like the idea of having to clear to gain an advantage over reaching the stage benchmark - that potentially leaves multiple stages after the benchmark where your survival doesn't really matter unless you actually end up clearing. Maybe you could get something like 1/5 or 1/10 of an extend for every stage above the benchmark (depending on the game and its stage count) to fill out the gap.

Only a couple more days until we start, get registered!
The extend for clearing is only really intended to award extreme badassery. I doubt we will see many people do it (if any) during the course of this. I think the partial extends would be kind of a pain to keep up with, so I'd like to keep it simple.gimebe wrote:I don't like the idea of having to clear to gain an advantage over reaching the stage benchmark - that potentially leaves multiple stages after the benchmark where your survival doesn't really matter unless you actually end up clearing. Reporting in with a mission success!
Shepardus - Giga Wing (Japan) - Carmine (Ruby) - 3 Boss - 1,217,148,559,810

I actually played a credit of this a couple days ago and reached stage 5. Played the first stage relatively safe this time, because I was actually getting pretty nervous on it. Died twice at the start of stage 2, but persevered until the latter half of the stage 3 boss.

Since this is a one loop game, I suppose just clearing it will get us the extend.
Also chum we're using the Japanese version, as an additional reminder.
