How to get retro gamer kid to start using CRTs?

So there's this kid at school who's mainly into retro games and retro-ish modern games. Like, the only consoles he has past 6th gen are nintendo consoles. Anyway, he plays them all on his family's 1080p LED screen from the late 2000's. I thought he might not know CRTs are better (or just not realize HOW much better they are), so I took a couple closeup pictures of Spyro 1 running on my PS2 via component on my BVM to show him how awesome they are. At lunch, right before I was gonna show him the pics, he said he knew they were better, but (noise drowned out the rest) ??? not enough space ??? (who's house is so packed they can't have a 20" CRT?) not enough money ??? (bullshit because he has an iPhone and mocked his friends >$100 android phone today; also, you can get a trinitron FOR FREE off craigslist).

I had an idea because amazon sent me another sonic amiibo (my first one arrived a day late), so I thought I could tell him I'd give it to him IF he plays my genesis on RGB for an hour on my BVM (after I recap it and get the scart and scart to BNC cables). How does that sound? Any other ideas?

P.S. He got an Atari 2600 and doesn't have a CRT. Does that even WORK with modern TVs!?

I'm so happy I read this thread. I feel like I have a much better understanding of the appeal of CRTs now. I used to feel that they were useless backward heaps of shit. But now I understand how much they truly enhance the feel of retro games and why people want to have sex with them so much.

There's over 7 billion people in the world, why should it matter to you if some kid decides he doesn't want to spend money on a CRT? Even if he can technically afford it the "authenticity" of his "retro gaming" experience probably as high priority a for him as you seem to want it to be. I myself could easily afford a CRT and might even be able to find somewhere to put it, but I'd rather spend my time and money on things I actually care about (like, you know, actually playing games) than on worrying about how authentic it is and cluttering up my place with random gadgets that have limited use to me.

Yeah, but how the FUCK do you play Pre-HD consoles on an LCD!? There's severe input lag and looks really blurry! This isn't about how authentic it looks, it's about how good it looks! It makes a HUGE difference ffs! One of the biggest parts of playing video games is how it looks! As I said earlier, you can get a consumer-grade CRT for FREE off craigslist nowadays!

Not on a TV with a decent upscaler. You're just using a garbage LCD if you are having these issues. Also, most good HDTVs will have a "game" mode and a "response time" setting for you to configure.

The picture on my 52 inch Aquos is so sharp it will cut your eyeballs. I actually prefer this to the CRT look, but I can understand the appeal of the latter.
