Cave x Steam teaser!
Re: Cave x Steam teaser!
holy crap! If I don't buy this game the whole shmup genre will cease to exist on all platforms as I know it?? is someone going to come steal my physical copies/pcbs and burn my collection?? definitely going to buy it now.

Re: Cave x Steam teaser!
I have an alternate rule to propose.
Do you feel like spending $20-30 on this game?
* If yes, buy it.
* Otherwise, don't.
The end.

Re: Cave x Steam teaser!
Can we please start another thread where people can debate how much CAVE should cost on Steam and if they should buy it even though they own it in another format ?
Then we can discuss the game in this thread
And it has not been said enough, thank you Degica for bringing this to PC!

Let's also start a thread to help Some-Mist work through his future loss. Poor guy...
Re: Cave x Steam teaser!
I guess the only way some people will buy it is if it came in a crappy cave brand cardboard box.

Re: Cave x Steam teaser!
If you already own 1 or more copies of this game, the only interesting question is:
"What online content can you generate from your existing copy that will encourage new people to pick up the Steam version?"
Can you stream it?
Can you make a YouTube vid?
Can you Tweet about it?
Can you put pics of your rig on Instagram with the game running?
Can you sell your copy and buy the Steam version with the proceeds???

yes please! since apparently I'm the only true fan of the genre that cares about their collection.mdsfx wrote:Let's also start a thread to help Some-Mist work through his future loss. Poor guy...

as long as it's priced under $90.AntiFritz wrote:I guess the only way some people will buy it is if it came in a crappy cave brand cardboard box.

Re: Cave x Steam teaser!
And there are people who think that old already existing stgs are enough for them and don't see any interest in genre's future. We all know that the state of the genre is shit and we all know that we'd like it to be at a better place with a steadier influx of new players. That will not happen if nothing new is released and if the genre on its whole falls into even more obscurity.
Re: Cave x Steam teaser!
For Japan, you can bet that's exactly what is going to happen! edit: I meant the crappy cardboard box comment
Man, to think Mushihime was my first intro to CAVE schmukmups back in 2005... It's like all is coming full circle. I'll be definitely picking this up!

I'm really looking forward to playing this game! Since Futari Black Label Original tickled my fancy Mushi 1.5 is of great interest to me - plus the base game is pretty darn great from my limited exerpience of it. Can't wait to own a proper version woo!
Re: Cave x Steam teaser!
Is this really true? I've heard conflicting statements about this, some saying the button tapping still exists in 1.5, others saying it doesn't.PROMETHEUS wrote:the one grief a lot of people have against Mushi is the exaggeratingly difficult (physically) rythm button taping system for scoring which I believed was removed or simplified in 1.5 and that was just a good choice I guess!

Yeah I feel bad for the PCB owners who have to play like this to score decently: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4KigFRmr8qMPROMETHEUS wrote:the one grief a lot of people have against Mushi is the exaggeratingly difficult (physically) rythm button taping system for scoring which I believed was removed or simplified in 1.5 and that was just a good choice I guess!
Re: Cave x Steam teaser!
How about CAVE implements a program where if you send them a serial no. of the PCB you own, you get a special star next to your name on the leaderboard ..

Re: Cave x Steam teaser!
People are too harsh with Mushi's scoring mechanics, I agree it's fucking hair-pulling at first and very hard to master, but at the same time - sorry to repeat myself - the moment it starts working for real it becomes incredible.
It was quite some time ago, IIRC around 2009 or 2010 that A-M (who used to be a big French player and diehard Mushi series addict) explained the thing to me a couple of times via the French forums and IRL while attending a shmupmeet (still the golden years for shmups and arcade in France, you wouldn't know) and I then focused on it for several months, not enough for me to rank high, but enough to experience the thrill the 'skyrocket' madness represents.
The learning curve is long and it absolutely requires the player to enter 'the zone', yeah, but for me it's been one of the best shmupping and overall gaming experiences I ever had.
Maybe that Steam port is a good opportunity, a signal telling me to get back to it.
PC is very convenient for me as I move around a lot and carrying a supergun+pcb, or even a 360, are out of the question.
I feel fucking old and slow now though, compared to 5~6 years ago...can I still fill the screen with huge flashing digits ?
@Udderdude: ok if we're required to send them a picture of the player posing with the pcb in Reco cosplay.

Re: Cave x Steam teaser!
CAVE's best business strategy at this point is to announce a new limited-edition cardboard box and sell them through auction. It would barely cost anything and it'd probably make them more money than any game they release.AntiFritz wrote:I guess the only way some people will buy it is if it came in a crappy cave brand cardboard box.
Re: Cave x Steam teaser!
I will buy this game, I don't own it legitimately on any platform yet. But if cave are guaging the pc market for shmups with this game they are making a mistake. Both in price and for first game. Some of their other titles would have been better to not only get them exposure but also for them to make money.
What would be amazing though is if they created a brand new shmup and released it on steam and other digital distribution services. Judging from shmup dev interviews, it wouldn't take a massive team to really create good shmups. Instead they wasted their time and money on smartphone apps.

Re: Cave x Steam teaser!
I don't know what was with their Don * Paccin, but "Gothic Lolita" upsetted me very much for mainly two reasons:Instead they wasted their time and money on smartphone apps.
1) "RPG elements". Every F2P mobile game is plagued with that.
2) "Downloading..downloading..downloading" instead of giving you complete game it downloads it by parts every time you make some progress.
Re: Cave x Steam teaser!
The difficulty is not the issue, the rsi inducing nature of it is. Tapping like that for prolonged times is just horrible.Xyga wrote:People are too harsh with Mushi's scoring mechanics, I agree it's fucking hair-pulling at first and very hard to master, but at the same time - sorry to repeat myself - the moment it starts working for real it becomes incredible.

To all of you who will buy this tittle.
Please, don't forget to take the time and write a possitive review about it on Steam too, it DOES matter!

Re: Cave x Steam teaser!
To me it seemed manageable with your usual Sanwa and a good sitting position, it only got bad if I got too crispated on trying to get that counter higher than necessary while I wasn't yet comfortable-enough with the game.Cee wrote:The difficulty is not the issue, the rsi inducing nature of it is. On that topic I'm curious to see how it'll fare with a keyboard lol. Possibly easier depending on the keys.

If there's anything insanely sensitive Sanwa buttons are good for it's Mushi
Re: Cave x Steam teaser!
Hope keys would be changeable.
I can't play on ZXC + arrows. Either "WASD + KL;" or - okay my gamepad is here too.

You can set autofire buttons on the Xbox 360 version. Don't worry about your fingers.
Re: Cave x Steam teaser!
Since it looks like they're translating all the in-game text, I wonder what's going to happen to the voices.

Re: Cave x Steam teaser!
Subtitles at least would be nice. I mean, I know story/dialogue doesn't mean squat in these games, but still...
If they ever do an Akai Katana port, I would definitely consider buying if they can get 2-player Shin/Slash mode working.
Fairly excited for Mushi, though. More than likely won't be able to buy it at launch, but I'll certainly be buying it eventually.
Which reminds me that I should probably try and get "Black Lavel" DLC for MushiFutari soon before Xbox decides to delist it or something.
