Congratulations on demonstrating that you find IN Lunatic to be trivial enough to do every day. Are you working on anything you haven't done before?

It's not quite as brutal for survival as first impressions might make it out to be.
I would honestly love to watch your 1CC, because Dangun Feveron is insanely hard to me and I seriously struggle to get to the stage 4 boss.

Thanks! Here's the stream archive:

http://www.twitch.tv/squiregrooktook/v/13341302

Basically I play completely ignoring score at speed 2. You really can't score in this game below speed 3-4 and without a route, so I'd recommend learning the game and enemy placements at speed 2 while letting discomen drop, and then try again at speed 4. On my first try after 1cc'ing the game, I picked speed 3 and got like 3.8 mil, which is enough to place top 20 on this forum. And my current best run from last night's stream is 4.3 mil.

Once you learn the enemy types and placements, speed 3 and 4 become better for both scoring and survival, because they allow you to halve the number of bullets on screen with speed kills that are only possible with those speeds. Not to mention you can macro dodge a lot of stuff that's impossible to macro otherwise.

Stage 4 is a massive difficulty spike, moreso then the final stage IMO. I used a save state to practice it. There are a lot of dumb memorizer gimmicks and "gotcha!" moments throughout that stage (which the game generally avoids elsewhere), but it's fairly consistent once you figure it out. That being said, there are a few parts in it where it's easy to lose control of the situation, so knowing the "problem spots" on that stage and being ready to bomb at the first sign of danger is a good policy.

The stage 4 boss himself can actually be near instantly speed killed by 2 bombs, without really having to dodge anything either.

I cleared the Japan version of DonPachi :D

I used Type-C and managed to no-miss Stage 4, which was impressive for me
I got up to Stage 2-2.

Excellent work!
You're sure to be in a fine haze about now, but don't think too hard about all of this. Just go out and kill a few beasts. It's for your own good. You know, it's just what hunters do! You'll get used to it.

Finally 1LCing Famicom Gradius II with :
-2 Options
-No Force field equipped

Most runs on internet are done with full power up but I'm doing it differently . I know this is real HARD task considering that the ship and the bullet hitbox are so DAMN BIGGER than sprites, the alien stage always ended my run along with Covered core boss, and also I record this run so maybe I'll upload it on YT tomorrow :D

Finally got the All Clear in Gaiares last night. Died 3 times during the run (two of those at the end of stage 6). If I can clear up the beginning of stage 6, I can probably get the No Miss.

Finally 1cc'd KAMUI in Normal mode and Alltynex2nd as well. Then I realized there is an achievement with the alternate ship on Alltynex2nd... maybe I'll go for that 1cc too sooner or later.

^^^Congrats man, Alltynex Trilogy has a special place in my heart.

Also:

Shitclear 1-alled Dragon Blaze.

Had a really shitty stream session of it a few hours ago, but picked it back up after a rest to see if I'd do better feeling fresher. Got the clear on first try then. This has taught me a lesson that I should not attempt to play shmups when tired and stressed.

Solid game to me. Not sure I ever want to go to the trouble of memorizing the loop, I like it but not that much. Scoring system is okay, but maybe not something that super grabs me. Might try to 1-all with the rest of the cast though. Maybe my feelings will change with that...

Oh yeah, Quaid's girlfriend is cute.

^Nice man! I like the setting and mechanics in Dragon Blaze, but at times seems to get confusing for me to decide which shot to use.

Dragon shot all the time or go home. Or at least that's what I do, which is probably why I rarely ever get past stage 3. There's something irresistible about showers of gold coins.

Thanks!

Yeah, I like the mechanic a lot too, although I'm still not a fan of Psikyo's "you have to be in position and moving before the boss even starts firing" design style that you see in later stages. I like the setting too, especially the character designs, though I don't like the pre-rendered environments. Mahou Daisakusen spoils me a bit there ha ha.

As for the shot, Dragon Shot is god and you want to do it as much as you can in order to not die from enemy/bullet avalanches. You need a route though for that. The magic weapons, as I understand it, mostly supplement your long range game, but their utility is different for each character. For example Quaid's slow magic missiles are good for preempting enemies but not so good for on the spot damage since they travel so slowly. Character variety is very strong in this game.

I finally cleared EoSD Lunatic with Reimu A, because I wanted to use a "weak" shot type (I normally main Marisa, <3 lasers).

I wonder if using vsync patches is basically the accepted thing to do nowadays to reduce the input lag the games had (which I am totally okay with). I'm less cool with the EoSD hitbox patch, because it's clearly not how it was meant to be played, and hitbox active all the time looks odd. edit: apparently there's a patch only shows hitbox when shift is pressed?

Nice. I used to be friends with the first english speaker to really go after and get the lunatic 1cc in eosd many years ago. I also like reimu A myself because she takes so long to kill the bosses with her weak homing shot, meaning more dodging is needed.

The games didn't have input lag, so using the patches to remove the input lag that a lot of systems now have on it is perfectly fine.

What causes the input lag on more modern OSes then? I thought vsync was built into and enabled in the games themselves, and that's what caused them to have input lag. I don't know much about the inner workings of them though.

I find Reimu A really difficult during Patchouli's stage. There's some dangerous enemies like the books that she just doesn't kill in a timely fashion, whereas Marisa's piercing laser happens to mow down enemies clustered together.

I know it's nothing new but damn that EoSD art is jarring. Both hands are terrible in different ways, those boneless, tubular legs - and that face! Then again I never 1CCed Normal. Somehow that disjointed, semi-mindless collection of limb shaped flesh things was able to contort into a mechanism for throwing knives that was good enough to do me in.

I guess I could go back to it now I can play it with an arcade stick. Congrats Roo!

Strikers 1945 II 1-ALL.

Not sure how I feel about this. For some reason I play this game a lot better on a keyboard. Does anyone have a definite theory on how bullets are aimed in this game? The way some of the stationary turrets shoot is downright bizarre, and popcorn seems to fire kinda-static bullets half the time. After playing so much Cave and Touhou, it was really hard to adjust. Kept wanting to cutback normally and dying because bullets didn't go where I expected them to.

I also learned that I absolutely hate popcorn spawning during bossfights.

I always thought a majority of patterns were aimed at the player, but there are some static patterns as well. Psikyo popcorn enemies are frustratingly lethal! Congrats on the 1ALL; I can't imagine how you survived those horrific final stages and the final boss.

I got my first-ever Konami clear:

Image
Spoiler
Image
I didn't do too well with the second-loop's "Gotcha!" surprises.

Really great to pull this off, despite the game's relative easiness (???) among Konami canon. The biggest hurdles were the stage 4 boss and the Moai madness on the final stage. I practiced all day (holiday weekend motherfuckers 8) ), and several times made it to the final boss without missiles, which is a lesson in futility. I died during the high-speed escape but luckily I had one life in reserve in order to just brute force the assholish barriers closing in on me.

There, one game from my 2015 1CC goals off the list! Only, uh, 9 more to go.

EDIT: lol it wasn't even on my 2015 goal list
